@@bplayerr1 BLM didn't say hey ESPN fire her, but Rachel had a contract that included hosting the 2020 nba finals. Pretty good gig for her, she never did it before so that's a nice opportunity. Whelp, 2020 aka the bubble playoff which was filled with BLM being plastered all over, kneeling during the anthem, basically it was white bad black good. Combine all that with a newspaper writing an article about ESPN and the lack of opportunities given to people of color, it was a perfect storm of race guilt. So, ESPN reached out to Rachel and said hey we want you to step aside, give up your position of hosting the nba finals so we can give it to Maria Taylor. Rachel didn't want to because it was in her contract and obviously if you've never done it before, you'd like to host the finals right? ESPN came at her with the oh you're not a team player, blah blah blah whatever. Apparently Rachel left some kind of app on her computer after a meeting so someone at ESPN was listening to her phone conversation with someone and she talked about ESPN trying to strong arm her into giving up her hosting job, they used that to force her out saying Rachel was saying racially insensitive stuff. It's not at all surprising, in a time of the NBA shoving BLM down everyone's throat at all times, and a time where ESPN was under scrutiny of not being racially inclusive, they shifted the blame game onto someone so they can look like the good guys and give a good opportunity to a person of color. Rachel went on the "all the smoke" podcast if you want to hear it from her.

Nope. This term is like so much more too overused by this era of the instantaneous and the consummate. Superstars are only 7, by the way they managed the game and dominated it, by the way they leaded their team to success, i mean by that Rings..by accolades, titles and records. Some unforgettable sh.t. LeGM, Steph', Giannis, KD and Kawhi. The Prime dominant 5 as their resume witnessed it. 2 others guys with this "verbal title" are Jokíc and Doncíc. Even if they not win or manage to reach the Finals as Jayson did leading the Celtics, they are way more dominant as individual players, and that made them (Jokīc had already 2 in a row, and it's monsterous, and we all know Doncíc is the real deal for next 15 years); some MVP calibers candidates. Which obviously Tatum isn't yet. But he's improving and starting surely to reach this point, particularly on his leading abilities.

I'm a die hard Jason Tatum fan. When he doesn't shoot well he pass rebound and play defense. He is a superstars in my eyes.

She's right. And she wasn't snarky or righteous about it. "Superstar" is not another level of play above great, superstar is another thing altogether. All superstars are great players, but not all 1st team all-NBA players are superstars. Some, most, are merely stars. Alas, Malika got pushed into defending her "rubric" on grounds of performance on the court. She should have rested on her opening definition. Basketball prowess is just the visible tip of the iceberg. Superstardom goes beyond sports, beyond popularity, even beyond winning. It's a galaxy-class pop culture phenomenon, a global merch brand, a spellbinding crazy mad love thing that to millions makes you an idol, a myth, a drug. Are parents naming babies after Embid, Tatum, Joker? I'd call that legacy, as much as rings, a marker of superstardom. Because fans don't just appreciate Curry as a hooper, they want to BE Stephen Curry in life. Be LeBron James and Kobe Bryant. Be Serena and Ronaldo and Federer, who will probably remain tennis's biggest superstar long after Djokovic surpasses his records -- because Djokovic, arguably more deserving, isn't Roger! And Tatum isn't Steph . . . yet. Based on X Factor, Ja Morant is probably closer.

The crazy part is they load management all year then they're hurt during the playoffs so what are they really managing I bet if they didn't get paid if they don't play their asses would play cuz they manage their dollars way better than they manage their loads

Longevity creates Legends, a superstar can happen almost overnight in the NBA, 2-3 years tops, especially how the media devours talent that create their stories

The best litmus for “superstar” is if your grandma, who doesn’t watch basketball, knows who the player is. I think Tatum is a king, but the casual fan or a citizen in another country has no idea who he is. But guess who they do know? Steph, Lebron, KD
