Findlay resident here, TJ Maxx has since left the mall and the only places keeping the mall alive is Bath And Body Works and Books A Million Also, that GameStop has since closed, there use to be 3 GameStops in town but now we only have 1

I remember coming to this mall as a kid when it was at least somewhat active, but now I just ocassionally visit to take pictures of its decline before it eventually closes completely. It's usually hard to get decent pictures, too, because of how dark the interior is now. They straight up just don't turn on several of the lights in the empty hallways nowadays. What's wild to me is how many stores are still there in this video that were already gone by the time of my last visit around late 2021/early 2022. There's also WAY less security now, or at least there has been when I've visited. Maybe one guard wandering around if that.

When this mall had no carpet I witnessed many a person slip and fall on the tiled floor. With carpet also noise was at a minimum. So quiet inside. Love the columns. Kept flow of traffic to sides while activities, demonstrations, shows and booths kept to middle. Also unique and beautiful.

Kmart was originally in the center section on the north side. They moved it after they expanded the mall and turned that section into a corridor and smaller stores and added the wing where Elder Beerman's was located.

Only in Findlay would they put carpet down in the Mall. Glad you found the Exit to your flight outta Findlay.

Nice highlight of the carpet. Always considered carpet a breath of fresh air regardless of the age and style.

I believe that you nailed the purpose of the columns. When I was a kid, this was an outdoor mall. The overhangs were large to shield the elements. The columns are structural based on the original outdoor construction.

That's cool to know. It's still odd to me there are so many though.

the pillars hide I-beams in '91-92 when the mall added the 1992 carpet the pillars hold up the roof add ons that where added to the mall when Kmart was added. where best buy tj max was. the walk way in the middle of the mall was the outside walk way before being enclosed reasonably why there's so many pillars. another note is me and a group of people (small businesses) approached the mall in 2015 about holding a indoor car show once a month in the summer months and a monthly indoor flea market the quote was 20k$ to host either event... 900$ per hr to host a coin show with 30 dealers.. there currently under new ownership.

Findlay is a upper middle class town. It is also the headquarters of Marathon Oil. I think that's what keeps the town from crumbling down like other medium size cities in the area. That carpet has been there for a long long time so it must be pretty darn good quality. Don't knit pick so much.

You should see it now...TJMax is gone...the Buckle is gone....Victoria Secret is gone...Game Stop is gone...MA Sports is gone....Justice is gone...It is so sad...I worked at Sears when it was there...I worked at GNC and I was Store manager for Spencer gifts for quite a few years. It really was an incredible mall in its day.

I remember going here as a kid. Bought so many games used from gamestop for the N64 and later PS2. we'd stop and get cookies, check out the kittens at the pet shop that was next to the hair salon, there was a toy store right next to elder beerman, and end by seeing a movie then getting pizza from the little restaurant that was opposite the game stop.

As a fellow Findlay resident who’s really nostalgia sick, do you know what all stores have come and gone since like, the 2000’s? Random ask I know, but I’m desperate for closure
@SonjasSEAcrets4 жыл бұрын
Yes, I'm guessing the supports were where the original outdoor ones were. I grew up in the era of the actual outdoor mall, there was a Britt's department store just to the angled north of Sears (where I believe Kmart was housed later.) It had an attached small cafeteria and at Christmas, all the oldies of Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby songs were piped through, good memories of that. JC Penney had been located in the area of the TJmaxx store. There was also a Singer Sewing store, Osterman Jewelers, Hobby Store (not Hobby Lobby), Radio Shack and Sears.

Takes me back. I moved away from Findlay 18 years ago, but I used to go to the mall a lot. Back then, there were very few empty stores, and the anchor stores were JC Penney's and Sears. There was also an Elder-Beerman. I remember the shopping center when I was a kid, back when it was outdoors. The main stores back then were K-Mart and JC Penney's. I remember the cafeteria there was pretty good. The movie theater and a Duff's Smorgasbord were behind the shopping center. It's kind-of sad to see the mall the way it is now. The carpet looks the same - yuck.

Man, my mall sucks. Sidenote, had you knocked on the pillars you would find that they are actually hollow, so they are just decor for some reason, their only real purpose is for kids to screw around on, when I was younger I used to run from pillar to pillar and jump off of them
@AroundIndiana4 жыл бұрын
That's weird they are just for decoration because there are so many. They went crazy with pillars

Man, to see so many people in a mall right now is kind of a weird feeling thanks to certain current events. I do agree though that carpeting in malls (or stores in general) can be good or bad depending on how well maintained it all is.
@AroundIndiana4 жыл бұрын
This was recorded in Feb. I wouldn't want to be in a mall right now. If the carpet looks like tile and is clean it's not bad.

The carpet been there for 15+ years, only the four way area mite have been given new carpet. The T.J maxx announces they was moving in January to the strip shopping area of old Walmart. All of the stores are moving when leases are up. Due to the mall keeps raising the rent to high. Food wise you miss say is a cookies only snack, Pretzel shop and pizza shop. Beside the Tokyo steakhouse. There was restaurant but went out of business. Movie theater was $1.00 show but food was very expensive snacks. Just keeps getting worse not better.

It looks like it is still a fairly busy mall despite the loss of the large department store anchors. TJ Maxx and Dunham's Sports must be helping to keep this place from completely dying out.

I was shocked to see that Debartolo, Sr. developed the mall. His malls normally have a little more class than this mall. The indirect lighting screams the 1960’s, and you would think they would have used trusses or something other than the huge pillars. And the only reason to use carpet, well there isn’t one.
