Hi Melanie, I completely agree that no amount of money replaces the loss of your child. Let's pray that all convenience stores will learn lessons from this sad case. They need to step up and check the identity details diligently, which is very important. Thank you, Sgt Bill, from Policeoffthecuff for introducing Attorney Melanie Little to the KZbin community.

Thank you for taking the time to clarify the facts. Drives me a bit crazy (especially in Lives) when there are misrepresentations of facts and the commenters can give information off the tops of their heads. I have often thought channels should designate a moderator to solely correct misinformation on the spot. It has gotten so egregious for me that to keep my blood pressure down I hardly ever watch a Live anymore! Carry on!

I’m glad Mark Tensly settled this case! He’s fought long and hard for Mallory Beach’s family. I wonder why the other 2 girls on the boat didn’t sue?? I think Buster should have been prosecuted for giving Paul his ID!

Excellent review of what happened, thank you Melanie. I sat as a juror on a civil trial that lasted 3 months and found it so interesting. Is it true in all cases that the jury doesn’t know if the individual suing has sued other companies/individuals?

Thanks @fuzzydoxie for watching! Do you mean whether the plaintiff has had any prior lawsuits for different occurrences, or whether other defendants have been released or settled in the case at hand?

Those kids were well aware of Paul's behavior, that he was a "lose cannon," and unpredictable. I know that Mr. Parker and the attorneys for Mr. Parker dug deep and found more rabbit holes in many directions, so, most likely, case closed, IMO.

Hey Melanie, I think it was smart that Parker’s settled for the $15mil. My question is being that Paul was arrested and charged with 3 felonies before his death, can the fact that he was arrested and charged be brought up at daddys trial ? While I agree that no amount of $$ is gonna replace any loved one loss, I have seen lawsuits where the amount sued for and awarded has been insane.
@AttorneyMelanieLittle Жыл бұрын
My feeling is that evidence of the charges against Paul will be stipulated in - also it is important to note that excessive verdicts are often appealed, and settled for a lesser amount during the pendency of the appeal, if not reduced by the appellate court or remanded for a new trial.

I can see the stance taken that it’s an awful amount of money I have to admit I agree. Through personal experience, my husband died because of medical neglect, I took action against his doctor the case was proven and found the doctor was neglectful in several areas of his care. By the time lawyers were paid, I received around $200,000. Due to my husband, having a back condition, it was argued I was not a dependent as I was working at the time of his death. It’s not the amount of money I received that is heartbreaking how he suffered that will remain etched deep into my heart. All because his doctor was to arrogant to listen😢

Such a needless tragedy, losing a beautiful woman at the beginning of her adulthood. Following the Murdaugh case/trial was fascinating with its twists and turns, better than a Hollywood movie. The idea that two dogs, sealed Murdaugh's fate was wild. Agreed, $15 million for a life seems too little, but I'm sure $150 million wouldnt mend the Beach family's heart either. If you were the Beach's lawyer, would you have suggested to not settle and gone to trial and what's your opinion about Parker's theory that Mallory new that Paul was drunk and still got on the boat?
@AttorneyMelanieLittle Жыл бұрын
I think settling against Parker's was a wise decision- and it is anybody's guess whether a jury would have apportioned any fault to Mallory for getting on the boat- but great questions!

Wrongful death lawsuits should be for the death of a provider in a family for the financial support they lost. This is abuse of the system. That girl was not worth that much money and I don’t care how it sounds. If a housewife’s husband dies at work due to unsafe standards, that’s what a WD lawsuit is for
@AttorneyMelanieLittle Жыл бұрын
I'm interested to hear more about your thoughts on this. If your daughter was killed due to someone else's negligence, you don't think her life would be worth anything?
@Terry-lh8cn Жыл бұрын
Wow
@willnill7946 Жыл бұрын
It’s a ridiculous lawsuit on every level. Family just trying to cash in. And people have the nerve to complain about cost of business and insurance in business. Either charge people in criminal court or let it go, this is not the intent of wrongful death lawsuits. That families little girl was clearly no angel and they need to accept that.
@AttorneyMelanieLittle Жыл бұрын
Why so harsh? Negligence is not always criminal. This is exactly the intent of wrongful death lawsuits- that is why they are heard in civil court. Pecuniary loss is not the only measure of the value of someone's life.
@willnill7946 Жыл бұрын
@@AttorneyMelanieLittleyou have 5 kids, if a drunk driver kills your husband and your a housewife then this is beyond criminal, you can’t support your kids without him. It’s not about punishing the drunk driver it’s just common sense part of his estate should go to you to support your children. WD should not be about punishment but common sense.

I’m watching older streams today. Slow news day. I very much dislike A. Murdaugh. I know this particular stream isn’t about the murder case of Paul Maggie, but I have to stay there as much as I can’t stand him. I don’t think he murdered his wife and his son, and I don’t think he got a fair trial. There should’ve been two separate child, one for the murders and one for the money crimes. Lord knows there was enough evidence to put him away for the rest of his life on that alone. The guy is absolutely deplorable. He was going to go away regardless of the murder cases for the rest of his life. However, and I know a lot of people disagree with me about this, but I’m standing my ground, because, I’m not an attorney but the one thing I do care about is the law. I care about the law over convictions. I don’t believe this trial was done right, I believe clerk Miss Becky should be serving Jlm time also, and I do believe that she tampered with the jury. Alec or Alex, whatever he goes by is a walking disaster. But I just don’t think he killed his wife and child I think SLED did an AWFUL SHODDY JOB, with their one sided investigation, and I do realize that I can be wrong entirely here. However, it does not change the fact that I think from watching every single minute of that trial that the state played dirty, they used underhanded tactics, and they didn’t prove a murder case. Just my opinion, don’t shoot the messenger. I think that the state did the same thing in the Karen retrial, and also in the Zachariah Anderson trial. These prosecutors have far too much power, and apparently judges are demigods, and if you don’t agree, the heck with you. I still think Alec Murdaugh should spend the last of his life in prison.
