People sometimes overlook that a lot of the hip hop "sound" is a product of how the gear sounded and worked (sample time limitations, sample rate, sequencing, multi-pitching, etc.). You can try to replicate it with plugins, emulators and whatnot, but it's way more natural to just put in the sounds and the hardware does what it does. Not saying the early hip hop producers weren't the main factor, but they were restricted by what they had and those limitations helped shape the sound. Trying to artificially recreate all that with software is kind of backwards. There's nothing like working with the real thing.

Plugins and emulations are complete scams
@XanderEwaldАй бұрын
Funnily, current-day music is shaped by the limitations of our gear as well; we just don't notice it yet. In 30 years, people will make "good old retro music" with DAWs and plugins instead of whatever horrible cyber AI technology folks will use to make beats then. As soon as technology is obsolete, it becomes desirable.

The 60 and 3000 sound good because of the way they downsample/distort and the channel separation you get from them....doesn't mean new MPCs are ruining your samples. I sample through my Audient interface because it has 122db dynamic range vs. the MPC 117db and adds some crispy mid-high texture but MPC recorded samples are perfectly usable especially on tracks that aren't the center focus of the track or are destined for FX.
