The song score for PUFNSTUF was the first collaboration ever for songwriters Norman Gimbel & Charles Fox... who would win the Grammy only 2 years later for "Killing Me Softly".
@lapislazuli78764 ай бұрын
My sister had the LP of the Pufnstuf movie and I would play this song over and over in the 70s on a turntable in her bedroom… I played it well into the 80s at a time when we just didn’t have Spotify or iTunes or even access to buy many records really… you just played what you had laying around even after it was no longer fashionable. I always loved the music from that Pufnstuf movie, as well as Cass Elliott’s sublime voice. Her voice to me epitomises the freedom and innocence of the 1970s. Pufnstuf symbolises to so many of us who were still children in the 1970s a certain optimism for the future that our generation were privy to and which I feel no other generation after us has ever had. The world was never the same once the horrors of the 1980s and beyond hit society. We were the last generation of children to live truly in a time of relative peace and stability. Life was still fun then. It was long enough after World War Two for us not to be affected and well before we had to deal with the Cold War of the 1980s or what lay beyond into AIDS, 9/11, Afghanistan and Covid. We kids of the 70s were truly the blessed generation.

@@evilmothericebearkillerbir6016Billy Hayes was the best ever. So many of us were scared of her, even though she was funny and comedic… somehow she scared us. I think that’s a testament to how great a character actress and comic talent she was. To be able to be both scary and funny is not an easy feat for an actor. Her persona is buried deep in the imaginations of a whole generation of kids and young teens. Pufnstuf is a morality tale that represents our whole 70s generation: we were all on a journey back then at a time when the world was actually free. Way before all the nightmares of our modern age as at 2024, when life is expensive and hard and diabolical. All of our parents had been through World War Two but we were the first generation born tasting freedom and we were allowed to be children and to experience all the best things that democracy and youthfulness and freedom had to offer… Pufnstuf is emblematic of all of that…. we were also the first generation not to have to grow up as young people in the later nightmares of AIDS and 9/11 and terrorism and the Cold War and then Covid. Time seemed to stretch out before us endlessly, and Jimmy and his magic flute and all his friends on living island were a symbol for us of a happy place, an island that was literally alive with possibilities. We could be who we wanted, stress how we wanted, be creative and dream. We were truly the luckiest generation and the world is a much sadder place now in so many ways. Computers and the internet has been a great gift in terms of tech, but socially and spiritually they ruined the world. The world seriously went into social and spiritual decline with the advent of computers and especially email. As soon as email and cell phones came along, I noticed all our lives were never the same again. We became fully owned by corporatocries. Pufnstuf represents to me everything that is the opposite of the digital age. It’s so wonderfully analogue, so wonderfully creative and expressive and innocent and imaginative. Everything that is the opposite of the nightmare of now.

When you read down the comments here and other channels discussing this segment, you see how many people from different walks of life with different challenges etc. have been positively affected and also Love it. It just may have literally saved a few lives along the way. This clip seems to hold up over the fifty ± years that have passed. It deeply impacts me every time I hear / see this. I wonder in her intelligent mind if she had other groups of people, such as the LGBTQ+ community, also in mind. It is So Fitting For So Many ! It packs a punch without being too "In Your Face". 🏆

It’s true. Witchipoo’s makeup was one of a kind and it scared me too. It still scares me now and yet I was mesmerised by their inventiveness, expression and incredible acting and talents. It makes what kids watch today seem so lame when you consider that everything was done without computers. It was all costumed, made up, acted out, and everything was done like a story book. Completely originally. Now it would be all CGi and it’s just not the same. The human element is so important because it gave the film soul. These actors had incredible soul and talent.

So this vid was uploaded nearly 13 years ago and in the subject it talks about how the message of Mama Cass isn't around anymore and that we can change that if we want to . If the message is that it's "ok to be different" and to "be true to yourself," well, in 2021 that message has been drudged up from the depths of the 70's and drilled into everyone's skull for the past couple of years now. Only now, it has morphed into a message that if you don't conform to this whole new thing of being "different," then you are to be criticized and excluded and ultimately cancelled. It's disgusting how the filthy liberals in our country have taken the healthy, progressive ideals of the 60's and 70's and used them to shit all over the United States of America. For shame. Rest in peace, Cass Elliot, but I thank God you didn't live to see the garbage we have to put up with in the 21st century.
