This is the first of 3 parts of a rarely seen Mama's Family Reunion from the early 90's talk-show VICKI starring Vicki Lawrence. Way back in 1990 when I was 10yrs old I'd wake up at 5:00am Monday-Friday on school days to watch 1-1/12 hours of Mama's Family reruns to get my day started. That's how much I loved (and still do love) Mama!!!😘😘😘

I had forgotten that Vicki Lawrence had a talk show, it was so short lived. I think it lasted a season before it was cancelled.

An audience member during the question-and-answer bit at the start of the Carol Burnett Show once did a spot-on imitation of Vicki playing "Mama," and had Carol nearly falling down laughing (and everybody else, too). Only saw it once, and never forgot it.

I loved this show! Especially after the 2 year hiatus in 1985, after which they wrote out Rue McClanahan and Betty White (who went to do The Golden Girls) and brought in Allan Keyser (Bubba); the final 5 seasons were by far the wittiest, but seasons 1 and 2 were great as well. Can't wait for them all to come out on DVD!

This comedy was one of my all time favorites, the characters were great and they all had natural talent. There's not many other comedies that rank as high as this one. Other comedies that are of the same standard were Are you being served, The golden girls and Keeping up appearances. A mixture of US and British comedies. They had great comedic timing, they were well written and the humor was just naturally brilliant. Much love indeed.

Although I must say, Vicki Lawrence did her Mama role to a T most recently when she showed performed it at some ceremony honoring Betty White in early February 2013 (earlier this month). I love the point where she was hitting them with their purse, going "WELL FOR CRYING OUT LOUD" and getting off the bleachers in the real funny way

Im only 15 an me and my sister who is 19 used to sit around and watch re-runs. They were so funny, and they still are. But i never see re-runs on tv anymore. I had a chance to meet Rue Mclanahan, when she wrote her book, but my sister had One Act Play that night, i was pissed.

Mama's Family is one of my favorite shows Im 15 so I use to watch reruns of Mama and the Golden Girls with my grandma so its great to be able to find a few episodes of Mama to watch to remind me of my grandma. R.I.P grandma. BRING BACK MAMA! reruns of course.

I remember on the old IMDb boards there would be discussions about what would happen to Iola when her parents died. Most thought she would end up moving in with Mama since she had no job and no life, and she never acted like her parents were wealthy enough to leave her any money to live off of.

Loved this show! The 70 s and 80s had some good tv! I loved Carol Burnett show never missed it! I really miss the old days. They've got a lot of crap on TV today. Not into reality shows, still prefer comedy but not a lot of good ones on now. I loved everybody loves Raymond, and king of queens, but those are in reruns now.

Back then, she reminded me of the character she played on her show? I know Vicki Lawrence still plays Mama, but with all the time gone by since how she did it on the show, I think some of her mannerisms are a bit off. Here, even herself outside of character has many of the same mannerisms as mama. Check her out at 8:24 to 8:30 where she says "Well, you know they are. They're like gypsies." That totally resembled the Mama from second life of the show in first-run syndication.

For all those good folks who have remarked on Vicki's talk-show interviewer skills (and her seeming rudeness to Beverly Archer), I recall that by this time the show's ratings were low BECAUSE Vicki is essentially a hugely-talented "sketch" actress/comedienne, NOT Oprah Winfrey (who is WHO she is because it seems she has more "versatility"---although, facts be known, acting and media today are less about talent and charisma---no insult to Oprah---but more about power-brokerage and accruing untold amounts of wealth). Kind of sad...all we have today is KZbin to "discover" (not employ, develop, groom, and nurture unique talent, as in the days of the old studio systems and early television).
