Wolfgang's First Fall Festival Birthday Party! Fall Vibes, Apple Cider Spread,Jam Our Little Pumpkin

Hey party people! thanks so much for hanging out with me while I share with you this new birthday party prep video!! It is Wolfgang's first birthday party!! GAAH I could cry. So bittersweet. The theme was fall festival / my little pumpkin theme and I think it turned out great!! I made a chili bar, an apple cider bar / spread full of all things apple, spiced cider, and pumpkin theme, many things I picked up from trader joes! I made a fall backdrop very simply with some natural hay, pumpkins and decor! the blanket really gave it that special touch! I made his cupcakes and smash cake with the worlds best icing recipe! AND oh gosh I almost forgot I made the cutest little homemake jam party favors! Everyone loved them and we've been eating it like candy! which it basically is. hope you enjoyed this party prep and got some party inspiration from it!! Huge happy birthday to our fifth and final little pumpkin, Wolfgang.

BEST icing recipe:
2 sticks of butter - whip until it's white and fluffy (I use salted butter)
1 lb of sifted powdered sugar to the butter
3 tbl heavy cream

I think jam requires that you sterilize the jars and lids before using, and then boil the jars when they are filled. This is to prevent things like bacteria and botulism. When you take the jars out of the steaming bath, you will hear the lids "pop", and that is the signal they are properly processed/sealed. That aside: Beautiful first birthday party for a lovely boy.

RIGHT?!? I highly suggest you do NOT skip sterilizing the jars - or boiling them after filling - otherwise people can get very, very sick. (Not trying to be a buzzkill, just a long time canner who was shocked that that step was ignored.)

Please anyone making the jam - do not skip the water bath canning step if you are making the jam to keep longer than a few days!

You have to seal the jam jars in boiling water otherwise the jam molds... it would need to be refrigerated . Not a step to skip if your party was like a week later or you didn't refrigerate.

For your jamjars you can put elastic around the jars neck and fasten your ribbon to that removable but pretty. Great set up. Love everything. Great job done

Kim.. I remember we you announced you were pregnant. I was so happy for you and your family. I found out about a month later I was pregnant too! With a boy due Nov 29th! I, too, have struggled with a clingy little boy who never sleeps. But knowing I wasn't alone in all this really has helped me get through those tough moments. I don’t know, Kim. I don’t think you did enough for the party. If I was an adult at the party, I would be thinking, “where’s the pumpkin patch? I really want to pick my own pumpkins. And where’s the coffee bar?” I mean, you’ve had a full year to grow a substantial pumpkin patch in anticipation of Wolfgang’s birthday. Happy 1st Birthday to gorgeous lil Wolfgang Wads family! I definitely had a tear in my eye when you were saying that it’s all about creating memories when your kids are small Kim. My ‘boy’ at 29 has definitely flown the coop - oh he flits in & out but he’s his own man now; whereas my ‘girl’ at 27 is still front & centre in my life …. male vs female? Who knows - I love them both with all my ❤ & they were raised under the same roof with the same loving parents. Go figure BUT enjoy them all together while they’re still young! Happy first birthday wolfgang. When i made jam i was taught to sterilise the jars first , just saying lol. I can never understand a smash cake unless its a cupcake , i love cake so hate to waste it lol. You make every event seem effortless and fun , love your videos.

Water bathing makes the jam jars shelf stable. As long as you and your guests refrigerate the jam and use it up relatively quickly you should be fine
