Mambo Vs Tokwe! An Elephant Challenge in the Homestead 🐘

While most of the night goes as usual … with bushy evening meals and Khanyisa seeping at the feet of her giant family, Mambo sets out to cause mischief. When he finds a contender not willing to stand down, it turns into a disaster for our homestead fence but a large snack for matriarch Tokwe! Watch the events unfold as captured on our secret camera trap!

This was fascinating. Tokwe let Mambo know he could rattle that fence all he wanted but she could and would bring it down. They all let Tokwe handle it and even more interesting was that Lundi stood back. I think Fish would have helped if needed. Love this view of the family and what they get up to at night.

Yes, I was also amazed that Lundi did not interfere with Mambo She is a very forgiving mother to her only son except the time and it still makes me laugh when.I remember the carers reporting that after his three days escape mama Lundi gave him trunk spanking His expérience alone in the Bush was not successful he was both ashamed that the wild Elephants had scorned him and above all happy and relieved that his friends carers have found him after three days alone in the Bush with no friends and Family around He is a mischevious Ellie but I like him We should ask smart peace maker Somopane to calm him done as he has done with Zindoga but Zindoga has never been so naughty as Mambo thanks to Bubi who is very careful that her teenager son does not get in trouble

The one thing I totally missed watching this the first time, since I was paying attention to Tokwe 🐘 and Mambo 🐘 all the elephants 🐘 were gone after Tokwe 🐘 had enough of his antics and pulled the fencing down. None of them were in view of the camera. Look out Mambo 🐘 Tokwe 🐘 has had enough!! ❤️

What a elephantastic video this is! Matriarch Tokwe, ever cautious, ever vigilant, ever serene and in control of her emotions, handled this one like a trouper. It's fascinating to watch the intricate trunk communications between the two. How very smart of Tokwe to have broken down that portion of the fence, goading Mischievous Mambo to try and step across it. She is astute and very lithe on her feet. It was an incredible sparring match. But Tokwe was clearly the winner. I liked the clip where the others all had their ears up at attention, especially Luntz....and then there's our Meisiekind...looking for a snack like always. This was another great lesson for her. And she watched intently and then figured that Mom's got in under control and I'drather play with Timi. Thanks for this long and excellent video, Adine/Carers.

It was very interesting to see FishtheMan stand back and basically let Tokwe handle Mambo. I think Tokwe is a true leader, for even Lundi stood away and let her handle Mambo. There's also Mambo hurting Lundi once, but all in all Lundi is not afraid of any of the others in the Herd. So Tokwe let Mambo know she was in charge...yet when at the end he rattled that fence so hard it actually scared me. I realized that Mambo is definitely a tougher. I believe Sebakwe, Jabu or FishtheMan will have to someday just whop Mambo. Otherwise he will continue to inflict damage on the females. If Tokwe and Mambo spar, it will be unpleasant for Mambo in the end. For if he hurts her, many in the Herd will gang up on him. Mambo is a prime example of a young strong bull in the wild. He doesn't need to be rewilded, he already IS wild.

That was so interesting....I kind of felt a bit guilty watching it all unfold without them knowing we could actually see everything! 😆 I realise it was a serious situation that could have turned nasty if Tokwe had managed to get into Mambo's space (or vice versa), but one thing I found endearing & quite funny was that they were so quiet about it (apart from the noise of the fence being demolished)...sssshh don't wake the neighbours! It’s amazing to see how strong and able to manipulate those trunks are. Combined with the additional lifting power of tusks. Just remarkable. Those guys have a whole lot of determination and patience when on a mission to show who is the boss. Wow. Also, where did everyone else disappear to?

I like seeing how they curl their trunk out of the way of their tusks to fight. Mambo is just being a teen ager, not a child not a man, pushing the boundaries to assert himself. He’ll be very easy to re-wild one day, even though he was born in captivity. Tokwe has her hooves full with him. Everybody bailed out of there, thinking Tokwe will annihilate Mambo and they just couldn’t watch it.

@@mortalclown3812 - They are exceptionally intelligent animals, with strong memories. You are probably correct, Jubulani realized he was happier at the HERD. Most of the herd will remain together, but a few will be re-wilded. Mambo seems to be a prime candidate for that. Elephants like a set routine, they don’t adapt to change easily. They have close personal relationships. Mambo, a young male, will eventually learn to live peacefully in the herd or find himself as a lone male out on his own, and have to defend himself with mature powerful males. Nature.

I so wish I could know what's going on in the elephants minds. It's hard for me not to imagine and narrate as the tension was building. I thought Tokwe was pretty angry at Mambo, her role is to protect and Mambo was presenting a threat to the security of the herd. I thought it was interesting as morning came, and Fishan was confronting Mambo, Mambo put his trunk toward Fishan, but there seemed to be a sense of resignation coming from the bull, as if he was telling Fish how tired he was, his hormones simmering, a feeling that he really can't help himself, and as much as I was on Tokwe side, I couldn't help but feel a bit of sadness for this bull, humans (poachers) have robbed him of a life in it's fullness, he has it very good, the staff at Herd care so deeply for the elephants, and provide them with the best that circumstances will allow, but I imagine Mambo roaming the wilds of Africa, with older bulls by his side to teach and reign him in, a place he can freely expell all that built up energy, and one day pass his genes on and live the life he deserves to have.

Elephants reach sexual maturity around his age and he will in a few years begin going into musth which is a period of high testosterone levels which increases levels of aggression and confrontation. It is too disruptive and dangerous for the herd so it is best they leave before that happens. Testosterone levels in this herd are controlled so it is a very interesting dynamic how males and females live together. It is fascinating to see how this herd has adapted to the new dynamic and how they will teach Mambo to fit into a situation that may go against his natural instincts. It is a testament to their intelligence.

From a layman's view point, it appears that Tokwe took & maintained a superior stance during her confrontation of Mambo. She constantly maintain a position with her trunk above Mambo's trunk & head. She displayed superior size & strength to the young bull. When Mambo attempted to show his strength by shaking the fence & steel roof post Tokwe appeared to have had enough. I believe that Mambo was somewhat shocked when Tokwe tore the fence down. You can barely see Mambo's trunk in any of the video of Tokwe pulling the fence down. I believe she got her message across. When Tokwe backed off & left the opening in the fence, Mambo did not press the issue by entering. I was surprised that we didn't at least see Fishan in the background until morning. He seems to always have Tokwe's back. For months I've wondered if anyone knows who or how the front corner steel roof post got permanently bent?

(sorry don't know how to spell that, but I heard it enough growing up, thankfully I was not the one to whom it was directed). Mambo's nickname = shit disturber. And yes Tokwe definitely was the winner, bc Mambo realized that he stirred the pot, and the pot was coming to get him. Physics, thankfully they don't quite grasp that as well, or this could have been a whole lot worse. Them commentary as someone else mentioned, was spot on =D good job to the editor =D Hopefully you all get that barrier fixed back up in no time.

As a mother of TWO boys who went through that difficult 16 to 19 period, I can sympathize with Tokwe. At a certain age you love them .... but you don't necessarily LIKE them all that much.

I hope everyone of those babies are ok they sure bring joy to my life I have been so worried today not knowing how everyone was excluding the carriers I want to come and visit so bad one day I feel like I know them through you all thank you very much ❤

Wow a very slow and methodical dance to supremacy. I wished Sebakwe or Fishan would come over to sort Mambo out, as the older bulls do in the wild. Tokwe's slow blinks must send Mambo a message, so glad they do not do damage to each other.
