This to date is now widely used as a cheaper alternative to Mame gun games at home (rather than any of the arcade guns you can buy that come with their own sensor bar). It works great only that the emulation of the 360 pad causes a few problems in windows while Touchmote is active. Menus in windows or any front end programs like Launch box will randomly scroll down continuously. You can stop this by turning off all controller operation (doesn't matter if a controller is selected different to an Xbox One/360 control the menu scrolling still occurs) on your front end and only using keyboard, but this isn't ideal if you're setting up a cab etc. People use a script to turn Touchmote off after Mame closes using some other third party programs but this is also fiddly. Someone just needs to update Touchmore and i'm sure this will be fine, but sadly the software has not been updated in a few years now.

I had that exact same problem a while back too and it sort of escapes me at the moment on how I fixed it. All I can think of right now is make sure the batteries in the Wiimote are good and strong. Also there may be Bluetooth interference. I had to move my Bluetooth adapter away from my computer by using a USB extention cable because it was getting interference from somewhere. After I moved it I never had any issues. I think between those two things that might get you fixed.

Neat! This seems like a better solution than the Glovepie route. Incidentally, I made a working setup using Glovepie years ago, but it is was hassle (refresh the BT stack, pair the wiimote) to get it running correctly. What I also did try was mapping the wiimote's gyroscope so you can use it as a 270 degree steering wheel. Here GlovePie come in handy as you can do the conversions needed easily in the scripting language, but maybe Touchmote can be used in this way too?
@OldsXCool8 жыл бұрын
You can use the Wiimote's accelerometers to for motion control steering as the Wii motion plus gyroscope is not supported. Normaly I think this would have been fine but the issue is that the motion controls are too sensitive and cannot be adjusted. It doesn't matter much to me because I already have actual steering wheels and the software does so much more than I expected and it's so easy to use. So if you want motion controls and know how to use Glovepie I recommend you stick with that. When I tried Glovepie I could not get good information for scripting. That kind of thing isn't common knowledge over here since most of us have been gaming on consoles vs. computers throughout our childhood. I managed to copy and paste a working mouse script which is how I found out that mouse emulation does not work in MAME. I also found my Wiimote disconnecting often which was maddening. Touchmote has a very nice user friendly interface and is extremely reliable. Word of warning though. I don't think Touchmote plays nice with Glovepie. I remember Glovepie not working at all after installing Touchmote which was obviously fine with me, but if you actually use Glovepie you may wanna make the necessary backups to unscrew things up if they go south.
@custardo8 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Well, as I mentioned this was years ago. I'm not even sure Glovepie is still relevant to be honest. I have a mayflash dolphin bar, windows 10, and hyperspin/mame installed. I successfully paired 2 wii remotes and made the pointer the right stick for the xbox 360 controller. While touchmote was open, I loaded mame up and tried configuring the x and y analogs, however mame didn't detect any movement. All other buttons on the wii-remotes are mapped perfectly to the xbox 360 buttons, but the pointer for the right stick seems to not work here. The mayflash/wii remotes are working perfectly in the dolphin emulator as well - so it's not a hardware issue.
@OldsXCool7 жыл бұрын
I don't know anything about the Dolphin bar as I'm using my actual Wii sensor bar. The only thing I can tell you to try is seeing if the mouse pointer profile works. If you get no movement there then it sounds like an infrared light issue with the Doplhin Bar. I do know that the Dolphin bar has like 4 different modes so perhaps trying another mode would help. Other than that I can't help you.

In this capture I'm using a first generation white one. Be sure in your MAME ini file that you've set joystick dead zone to zero or your cursor will get sticky in the center of the screen. Also you can adjust joystick sensitivity lower to slow the speed of the cursor down. I think it's normally at 0.85 and I took it down to 0.65 which seems to feel way more intuitive.

if you remove the visual pointer and shoot without the pointer can you hit the targets?
@OldsXCool4 жыл бұрын
@@simonebartolini5800 No it is not because Touchmote is not interfacing with MAME via mouse input because atleast at the time mouse input did not work with emulated mouse sources like Touchmote. So Touchmote is interfacing with MAME using the left stick of an XBOX 360 controller which in turn ignores the sensor bar's position above or below your tv and the only way to get it to be semi accurate would be to have the sensor bar placed exactly in the center of your screen which for those of us who have direct view TVs that will never work. However it can be accomplished if you have a projector instead of a TV because you can put the sensor bar behind an acoustically translucent screen or bed sheet and the light shines through the screen. All that being said however you still wouldn't be able to calibrate your aim to your exact position. I have not seen cursorless aiming done in MAME yet even with something like an Aimtrak light gun.

All the LED bars do it light up. That's it. The Wiimotes track the infrared light as a reference point. People have used candles before because they give off infrared light. @OldsXCool8 жыл бұрын
Over sensitivity can cause jittery controls which can be adjusted in the MAME ini file under "joystick sensitivity". Other than that If you still get erratic movement you could have lights in the room or sunlight from a window interfering. Also a weak sensor bar can also cause this. Also don't forget to set the "joystick deadzone" to 0 in the MAME ini file as well.

Guessing this is something in MAME configurations?Hoping for help please!

Getting Touchmote to work with the Model 2 emulator is easy since it will work with the mouse profile unlike MAME. So when you assign the buttons in the mouse profile, assign the left click to whatever you want to be the fire button, and right click to whatever you want to be the reload button. In this capture with my particular gun shell, I chose the Z button to be left click and the C button directly above it to be right click. And you're done.

Sorry for spamming your videos, but you're the only one I've seen getting this to work right... I've configures my Wiimote on MAME just as you said, but the offscreen reload doesn't work all that well for me. For example. Area 51 only registers my offscreen shot if I move rather slowly towards the edges (if I move to fast offscreen, the cursor stays behind). This only happens when using the "Right Analog" configuration. When using the wiimote as a mouse pointer, no matter how fast I move, the aim gets to the edges each time. However, the sensitivity and steadyness when using the wiimote as a mouse pointer is not as good as the one I guest when setting the wiimote as an analog stick (which is pretty much perfect). Any ideas? I'm trying to figure out how to fix this problem for the analog stick mode (so it doesn't get stuck with fast movements, and can always reach the edges when I quickly move offscreen) , or figure out to make the mouse pointer mode work as good as the analog stick mode does.
@OldsXCool8 жыл бұрын
Sorry, I thought I had replied to you by now, but I kept getting interrupted every time I sat down to type and I never responded. Anyway.......it sounds like what is happening is that you're moving outside of your sensor bar's range when you attempt to shoot outside the screen. Make sure the Touchmote software knows your sensor bar's position (top or bottom). This adjustement is in settings menu under "pointer settings". The software as well an actual Wii compensates for the sensor bar position by setting the cursor's center point higher or lower depending on where you tell it where the sensor bar is. So if your sensor bar is on the bottom and the software is set to top, you will become out of range really fast trying to shoot outside the bottom of the screen because you have to point the Wiimote down much lower to even get the cursor at the bottom of the screen much less shoot outside the bottom of the screen.
@aceuno8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your suggestion! I actually had it set at "center" because it aimed more comfortably from the couch. Now I've set it to bottom, where it really is positioned, and it works a lot better now. It still freezes in place if I do a fast move far outside the screen, but setting the bar on its real place gives me more "room" to move towards the bottom of the in-game screen while staying inside the sensor's reach... Now I have no problems reloading towards the bottom side :) Thanks for your videos and explanations! There's so little information on how to use Touchmote for games it baffles me. You'd think that being wiimotes so widespread there would be more information on how to best take advantage of it on a PC. Even Touchmote itself doesn't have proper documentation for all its settings (there's a lot more editable parameters on the settings.json file than just what the GUI show), and most people with DolphinBars find on its first google search a Dolphin blog review that says "the mouse mode stutters and sucks, don't bother" and stop there (I almost did!), without ever knowing that through you can just set the Dolphinbar in "mode 4" (direct bluetooth input) and use Touchmote to handle non-Dolphin use cases. Your videos were very much needed! (You should consider making a similar video to show how to configure Touchmote on the Sega Model 2 emulator, wink wink) (And by the way, that's one sweet CRT TV setup you have there)
@OldsXCool8 жыл бұрын
azulo Thank you. I was also surprised by the lack of information on using this software. That's why I ended up doing the video. I actually had a long tutorial video planned out and never could get the video right because I suck at talking about things that people aren't asking about. I made the second video further explaining how to set things up because I had someone ask me, so I knew at least one person would watch it and understand it lol. I felt that I had to get the idea out there and then see how people responded to it because I wrestled with GlovePi hardcore and there's REALLY no information on that program anymore. I hate videos that don't do anything but show someone playing a game with a Wiimote and don't tell you squat of how they did it and they don't answer anyone's questions in the comments on top of that. If you want to play the Sega Model 2 emulator with the Wiimote, that is really easy unlike MAME. The mouse pointer controls work just fine in Model 2. You don't have to mess around with the joystick input and stuff like you with MAME. You can probably just use your Dolphin Bar's mouse mode, if not you can use Touchmote's mouse scheme. The only downside is that there is no reloading by shooting offscreen, but you can map reload to another button which is what I did. If you can't get it figured out, let me know and I'll probably make a video on it.

Wow, thanks man. You've charted into what is relatively uncharted territory, and you've given excellent instruction. This is useful for helping me achieve my dream of a home arcade! A couple of questions if you don't mind. Do you have links to more resources for using the wiimote? For example, the logistics of connecting the sensor bar to the PC (drivers and whatnot). Also, you've connected your PC to a WEGA TV! Firstly, I am super jealous that you A) have such a good CRT and B) have the room for it! How do you find connecting a PC to a TV with such small resolution? Not really a question just curious Thanks again. Here's hoping Time Crisis 2 is one day properly emulated on MAME so I can relive that glorious game

The reason I made this video is because there really is no information online about this stuff. The great majority of people out there on the forums are still trying to use Glovepie. I happened to find only one person who recommended Touchmote because Glovepie was not user friendly in the slightest and it fell on deaf ears as it was the last post of that thread. I tried to learn about Glovepie and how to use it but there is just no information about it anymore as the main site with that info seems to have been shut down. ANYWAY getting back to Touchmote, there really isn't a ton that you need to know when it comes to drivers since the Touchmote software installs all the necessary drivers it needs and you don't need any other drivers than the one that comes with your bluetooth dongle. The sensor bar does not need to be connected to the PC. All the sensor bar does is emit infrared light. My sensor bar is hooked up to my Wii so all I do is turn my Wii on and the sensor bar is on. The front of the Wiimote is an IR camera that looks for the position of the sensor bar's lights and transforms that into an input command. You can get wireless battery powered sensor bars or ones that are powered via USB. The Mayflash Dolphinbar is extremely popular as people have used that to easily connect Wiimotes when using the Dolphin emulator. I don't have one of those so I can't help you if you get one. However what has always mystified people is how to get a Wiimote to work in MAME because a mouse can be used in place of a lightgun in MAME, but trying to use emulated mouse input from a program like Glovepie or even Touchmote will not work. That's where Touchmote makes all the difference. It turns the pointer of the Wiimote into a XBOX 360 analog stick command which is why it works in MAME. Now for other emulators like the Sega Model 2 emulator, I am using the mouse profile because Touchmote's mouse emulation works in just about every other emulator but MAME. I don't know why, but that's how it is. This is also the way Aimtrak guns work as well. However if you want the absolute truest arcade experience in MAME without having the aiming cursor on the screen, you'll need an Aimtrak gun as it comes with software to be able to calibrate the aim outside of MAME. The only way to have accurate "aim down sight" in MAME with a Wiimote would be to place the sensor bar in the dead center of the screen. Needless to say that this is impossible on a direct view CRT or LCD TV. I did make another video going into greater detail on how to setup the Touchmote software and MAME for another You Tuber here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nqTVgnmJjtaHfqM As for my CRT, it's great for PC games. It displays a PC signal clear enough at 1280x720 resolution. It's not very ideal for typing things like You Tube comments thought it's not as bad as you would think. However 1920x1080 is completely out of the question as everything is way too small and a little blurry at that. I'm 9.5 feet from a 34 inch TV so when I need to do anything else but play games and watch videos I use my gaming PC that's at a desk with a nice and clear LCD monitor. If you have any more questions just ask. Thanks for watching.

That's great man. I remember messing around with glovepie back in the day when I was desperate for a gamepad (random fact - the developer made the program not work in Israel as a political boycott). Good info brother. Aiming off the screen would indeed be ideal but I understand how that's beyond the humble technology of our current homebrew wiimote drivers. I will definitely come back for more questions! Expect more questions in like a couple of months when I've got the components together :D Here's hoping they eventually emulate time crisis 2 properly

Hi! I finally managed to get everything working (finally! haha) but I have a new problem. There seems to be an invisible axis or cross in the middle of the screen, and it can move up and down or left and right perfectly on the ‘cross’ in the middle of the screen, but for games like Carnevil, it’s a bit of a problem. I know I have to change the Joystick Deadzone, but I’m no computer whiz and it looks pretty hard to get the new ini file, do you know the easiest way to fix this problem? Thanks!
@OldsXCool6 жыл бұрын
The easiest way I know to create a "mame.ini" file is to take the entire mame folder and stick it on the root of your drive. So for example if the name of your mame folder is simply "MAME" then when you slap that folder on the root it should become "C:\MAME". The reason for doing this is because it will be much easier to type in a really short path than a long one if you've saved your mame folder in a place like my documents or your desktop. After you've done that open a command prompt by going into the search bar and typing "cmd". The command prompt will open. Type: cd\ ENTER cd mame ENTER mame.exe -cc ENTER Then look in your mame directory and you should have a file called "mame.ini". Open that up with notepad or wordpad and then look for the joystick_deadzone and change it to 0. Save the settings before you close notepad or else the setting will not take. Startup MAME and the deadzone will be gone.

OldsXCool great, thank you! Works like a charm! The only thing that I need help with now is getting two wiimotes to work as light guns in Model 2 and Mame. That would be great for two player action in games like Rail Chase 2 and Carnevil! Thanks again!
@OldsXCool6 жыл бұрын
For MAME all you have to do is sync up two Wiimotes with the Touchmote software. The Touchmote software assigns each connected Wiimote as a separate controller. However Model 2 is a completely different story as the Model 2 emulator uses the mouse profile to aim instead of emulating one of the sticks of a XBOX 360 controller like in MAME. You have to get your computer to recognize two mice that are completely independent from each other as in each mouse controlling it's own mouse pointer, not two mice controlling the same pointer on the screen. I don't know how to do that.
@houseofthedeadchannel2516 жыл бұрын
OldsXCool ah, excellent this is great! No bummer with Model 2, I don’t really mind the lack of two player. Though do you have any experience with the emulator, ‘Demul’? I just got it with Maze of the Kings and I’m gonna look into House of the Dead 2 and Lupin the Third, but I was wondering if you knew how to set up light guns for it with the wiimote?
@OldsXCool6 жыл бұрын
Nah I'm not a Dreamcast fan at all. I have all the Sega Lightgun games that I want already on the Wii. I will say all console emulators that I've used so far work with the mouse profile in Touchmote since most emulators support mouse controls to control the cross hairs in light gun games.

Is it possible To hide the cross ?? For just aim with the gun ?
@OldsXCool6 жыл бұрын
Eric Creton You certainly can hide the cursor, but then you won't know exactly where you're aiming since there is no way to calibrate your aim. The only way to get that is to buy an Aim Track gun which has its own aim calibration software. Using the Wiimote is a good middle of the road option between aiming down sights with a light gun and dragging the cursor around with a mouse which sucks.

Thank's man. But my question is: can i use a wiimote plus or an generic conttol. Bye.
@OldsXCool6 жыл бұрын
Marcelo Vidal You can use a Wiimote Plus. The instructions for Touchmote say that you can use any Wiimote made before 2011 with no problems. However I'm not sure if that has changed for the better or not. Chances are any Wiimote you have will work since the Wii was pretty much dead in 2011.
@marcelovidal38666 жыл бұрын
OldsXCool ok. So i connect the wiimote plus following the instructions step by step, and it works. But when i starr the mame (any version) the wiimote is dead. Works only the 360 joystick and the mouse. And i repeat, i've done everything just like your instructions. Thanks for your support.

hello, why you need a Wiimote made before 2011?
@OldsXCool7 жыл бұрын
That's what the Touchmote software says that it requires. My guess it that later revisions of the Wiimote have problems shaking hands with the software. I don't have any newer Wiimotes so I can't verify this.

@OldsXCool7 жыл бұрын
The Sega Model 2 emulator does not run in true full screen. It runs in a window that is masked by a black border round it so you cannot shoot off screen or else you'll end up grabbing the window you can't see. To fix this problem you need a program called "Borderless Window" which will actually make the border of the window disappear and you'll not longer be able to interact with it accidentally. Additionally off screen reloading doesn't work on the Model 2 emulator unless you have an Aimtrak gun that can learn that motion. I allocated the reload function to the C button on the chuck controller and it works really well. Lastly about the inaccurate cross-hairs. This is most likely being caused by running the emulator in a widescreen resolution. The game will keep the 4:3 aspect ratio, but the gun will still be set like it's aiming at a 16:9 aspect ratio which causes the inaccurate aim. What I did was set the resolution to a 4:3 ratio resolution so the gun will be set to aiming inside a 4:3 ratio box instead of a 16:9 ratio box. I've this problem before.
@manlydesmond49257 жыл бұрын
haha yeah i found thee borderless program and it worked well for all games but 1.. i got sega model 2 working in widescreen perfectly i just had to find the right setting but i still havent tried to set up these with the wii remote as i just got a dongle.. but i have been playing house of the dead and ghost squad for wii on dolphin using your sensor bar trick lol and the games are upscaled to 1080 and look amazing. you can also make the resolution 4k but my pc cant handle it... yet. i recommend you try this its awesome. dolphin is crazy good. ill let you know how the mame and sm2 and sm3 go when i get round to it.. probably 2moro. thanks for your help great man if you need help with dolphin lemme know but its pretty straight forward and makes old games look insane. like house of dead 3 looks like a ps3 game and can get even better

For MAME all you have to do is sync up an additional Wiimote to the Touchmote software and then program the controls in MAME for player two just like you did for player one. However in the Model 2 emulator you need a special program that allows for two mouse inputs which I have not used so I have no experience with. Check out this video and the description to learn more. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mIrEi3Strpaagpo

Yes. The Touchmote software can accommodate up to 4 Wiimotes. Just connect another Wiimote and program the other Wiimote as player 2 in MAME. This however does not work for Sega Model 2 since that using mouse emulation and you need the ability to control 2 completely different mouse inputs independently for 2 player on games like Virtua Cop.
