Today we continue to fight the good fight against the record snowfall in Mammoth Lakes over the 22/23 season. It has been a struggle to get through the year as those of you who follow daily have seen. We just finished clean up with almost 36 inches the night before last… today we are doing the last of our clean ups with blowers and loaders, we are continuing to remove heavy loads from structures throughout the town, the sun was out today which was welcome. It warmed up a bit was a very nice day. We ran into the Cal Fire crews up on the Bluffs. They were uncovering fire hydrants for probably the second or third time this year we got to see a little bit of that which was fun so hope y’all enjoy the video stick around for spring. It’s gonna be wild.

You should definitely document the melt when it finally starts.. some of the highest peaks will have snow all summer into next winter

In 1861 there was 10' of rain in California. The central valley turned into a lake, Sacramento was destroyed. It seems that the snow this year actually repeats, usually appearing after a decade long drought. "Native Americans knew that the Sacramento Valley could become an inland sea when the rains came. Their storytellers described water filling the valley from the Coast Range to the Sierra" - Wikipedia

I know that history too... Ya know I'm wondering with climate change if Atmospheric Rivers will be the new Norm? I'm third centurion Californian and I've never seen this much rain and snow from San Bernardino to up Past Donner and everything in between...I don't see Sacramento handling all the water that's coming from the snowpack...It's going to be overwhelming... I'm not being a doomsday lover guy I'm just saying... there's no way all the levies will hold...🤷 Tulare Lake has reappeared and this is a helluva way to start off a wet El Nino cycle! 🤔✌️🌊🌊🌊🌊

Got to remember there were no dammed up reservoirs back then. Things have changed drastically. Folsom is meant for flood protection mainly. Also usually hear it referred to as an “inland ocean” when referring to that flood, and seeing maps of how far it spread it is just mind blowing to even imagine!

You are in deep son! No injuries, Safe roof removal, and amazing snow amounts, total homes buried, propane, gas leaks, explosions, trucks lined up on roads waiting to load, and haul the snow, and digging out hydrants, and guys trying to remove the snow on the roofs, its a sleep, eat, and work routine, day in, and day out, I can only guess at how many folks are just putting checks into your account, the weather is a god send for you guys. I have 8-9 months a year here to rock my work out, with about 10 - 12 guys, they are starting to call me nowadays, good luck you guys!! Peace!

You and your employees are to be commended for the challenging work you are continuing to accomplish. I hope you don’t have too many more snowfalls to deal with. Look forward to your upcoming podcasts. Hopefully as the winter snows begin to melt, there won’t be significant damage from flooding. Also hope there aren’t additional building collapses and injuries to people occupying them. You and your guys have done an amazing job of clearing snow this winter. You are all heroes the people of Mammouth Lakes.

With daytime temps hitting the higher 40s and soon into the 50s Mammoth Creek will be well over full. All that melting snow and water have to go downhill towards the Hot creek and Crowley lake. Spring is coming faster than we think. Those huge snow piles and ramps may be here through nearly all of the summer.

oh my face, I had last experienced such snow masses in 1992, on a truck trip to Hammerfest in northern Norway. Since the snow masses piled up to 3m high, left and right of the coastal road and at some point after several hours at a snail's pace went purely nothing more. We stood for almost 5 days and nothing helped to get on.

You may want to check into hand ice saws, for cutting blocks into the snow banks like the Cal fire guys were doing with their chainsaws. Then you can use the snow movers to move the ice / snow blocks off the roofs or to get down around the gas tanks.
