I'm composting in a small condo backyard in the suburbs. Just ziptied together the ends of a short roll of hardware cloth. The trash man doesn't get much from me! I'm using everything from my kitchen & garden to make more dirt. Black gold!

Well another topic that has so many variations. Personally It depends on how much you think you might need each year. I don't like the idea of letting chickens in the compost piles as they take out all the bugs and worms that you need to help break it down., I also prefer to cover the sort you have made from weather. You can add water when you need to yourself. Eggs shells do break down but take much longer that you might think, however if you make them into a powder it will be much faster. and by the way they are not filled with Nitrogen , but are filled with Calcium. I put everything in my small compost bin except cooked meats, onion skins, and Lemons. I cut everything up small. I think you should make your bin smaller or have two, so when you turn them you go from one to the other, I also think you should consider covering them, I also think you should consider looking into making F1 for Bokashi to add to your compost. try ( Permaculture Retreat Center video. on utube ). Continue to build soil wherever you live and whatever you grow.. good luck..

These videos are so funny with you two and the lil baby! Nice compost attachment for the run. I have found that having your own compost is vital to self-sufficiency so nice work. I abandoned having bins or anything like that now haha I just make big piles in the lawn so I can easily flip them if need be (but usually the chickens help out with that) This is a big step for you guys, its cool to see:)

I built a 3 bin composting bin, but I'm using just one bin for composting and the other 2 I turned into a temporary coop lol, I want to move my chickens by August.
