MULENGERA NEWS INTERVIEW WITH COUNSEL GEORGE MUSISI:
Barely 40, George Musisi is a leading lawyer for the National Unity Platform. And he has been at it, standing up to defend Bobi Wine and other political prisoners and victims of political persecution for some good years.
And recently he was catapulted into controversy of some sort when sections of NUP leaders in Mukono considered him to be the most suitable person to take over from long serving Betty Nambooze and become the new MP for Mukono Municipality.
As that was being debated, Bobi Wine concluded that Semujju Nganda had stayed on too long as Kira Municipality MP and fronted George Musisi to be the man to take on Nganda for 2026 in Kira. Quite predictably, this has created lots of controversy and contradictions for the opposition.
And many have likened it to Bobi Wine burning, as opposed to building, bridges which he requires to build to broaden the anti-Museveni coalition going into 2026 if the NUP Principal is to ever grow his electoral strength from the 3.5m votes he scored in 2021 to something bigger in 2026.
This Monday morning we are previledged to have Counsel George Musisi to address the elephant in the room by talking about all this and much more in this attached KZbin video interview:
During the interview, Counsel George Musisi eloquently responded to the following questions and much more:
There has been a lot of speculation that you lawyer George Musisi will be standing for the job of MP in 2026. Will it be Munoko or Kira Municipality?
How comfortable are you, as a person, having your name repeatedly referred to in relation to the controversy or contradictions that your party's desire to oust Semujju Nganda has created?
Aren't you concerned about the extent to which your party's desire to oust Semujju Nganda could potentially complicate efforts to build, strengthen and enlarge the broader opposition coalition as the country counts down to 2026?
In 2021, your Party President got 3.5m votes which he must grow and enlarge by broadening the political coalition around his bid for Presidency. Now by insisting on antagonising Semujju Nganda in Kira, don't you think you are burning as opposed to building bridges?
You have already been contributing to the cause for a better-governed country. Why do you now think or believe that you have to be an MP in order to make a contribution? In other words, what difference does being MP make? What's that contribution can not be made unless you get to occupy the office of MP?
What exactly are people saying in Kira? What are some of the concerns that are being raised about Nganda's continued occupation of that office of area MP?
You belong to NUP and you are one of the key decision-makers in the party. Why is it that your party doesn't want to hold competitive elections as a way of establishing party structures and determining flag bearers for MP and other elective positions?
Let's also talk a bit about the Mpuuga faction issue. Since his ousting from the office of LoP, Parliamentary Commission and LoP, lots of chaos has resulted and thereby creating bad publicity for the party? Do you agree with those who say that Mathias Mpuuga's capacity to cause trouble for NUP party had been underestimated? Is there anything that his group has said or done that has taken you by surprise?
Let's briefly discuss current LoP Joel Senyonyi. Are you proud of his performance so far?
Then we have the issue of Mr Dean Lubowa Sava. That action that your law firm had filed against him on behalf of Mr. Joel Senyonyi. How far did that go? Is it true you people became nervous and back off the case?
Then very briefly...over the weekend reports emerged that the NUP treasurer general Mr. Benjamin Katana, who also happens to be your business partner, had defected and rejoined NRM. How true is that?
PROFILE:
Now as we move towards the end; let's focus on George Musisi the man. What type of home did you grow up in and where was this?
Where did you go to school? And with whom? What's your status currently? Are you a parent? A spouse or not as yet?
For how long have you been part of the anti-Museveni struggle? Are you one of those who were inspired by Robert Kyagulanyi or you had been there prior in the trenches?
Also talking about politics abit once again. There are people who have suggested that the opposition NUP should consider deploying its high quality human resources like George Musisi for vacant constituencies like Kampala Central as opposed to antagonising like-minded comrades like Semujju Nganda in Kira. What do you say to such people?
