Young man you have a craftsman skill like none other!!! When I came across your video I completely stopped doing whatever it was I was doing and watched a man build like no one I have seen in my sixty years. You put so much time and effort into that barn, that it is something that one day I would like to visit to see. That is if the good lord don't take me first. Your dedication and attention to detail in planning and putting such intense effort into each piece of wood. Creating each piece from Gods gift of trees in the forest. I couldn't take my eyes of the video, it was so well put together, the music, I am guessing a drone camera was involved that was a great touch. The work that was involved and your constant working from daylight till dark, it just really moved me to see that there are still some incredible individuals out there who can really get the job done with style and precision. And I would one day, Lord willing, love to visit your area just to see that barn. Yes I really enjoyed watching you build that. Great job, and I don't think I can put into words what an incredible piece of art work you created there. Once again, outstanding job my fine man. I take my hat off to you sir!!!!! Thanks for that wonderful moment, I really enjoyed watching you do that. God bless you and your family.

Draw boring is handy at times. I've cut a few frames using that method but I've found that the bigger timbers don't mind the straight boring. The joints are as tight now as the day they went together, the beauty of white pine. Thanks for the comment, have a good night.

Pardon my ignorance, but is that the same tractor that was used with a bulldozer attachment and now you're using it with another attachment for moving stuff around and raising timber frames? What tractor did you use, and what is that attachment called? Was most (if not all) of the heavy-lifting accomplished with this one tractor and different attachments? Pretty cost effective if so.

That is the same tractor. The attachment used for lifting the frame is one that I made just for this purpose.

Howdy Jim from down Texas way. I am new to the channel and have been catching up on the timber fame build. I noticed the frustrations with the chain mortiser! Before You round file(ie shitcan) it for the 7401L, and once you have the clamp hardware repair parts, You might try finding some adhesive backed non-skid tread pads like I would use on the deck of my saltwater skiff. It would improve the metal to wood surface contact area with the coarse sandpaper like abrasive contacting the wood giving much greater holding power to the clamp! I am enjoying the channel immensely, Keep up the great work, may be contacting You in the future for some noob tutoring tips on creating a channel when I build a 16'x24' portable building! Thanks again for all the great information You put out, have a great one! Sincerely Dan!

I'll let you in on a little secret... When bucking logs that want to break downwards, you don't need wedges to keep from getting pinched. Cut down until the gap just starts to close, then pull out and cut up from the bottom. If it starts popping like it might split, cut faster and get ahead of it. Do the opposite if it wants to break upwards or sideways, etc. I was a timber cutter for a year or 12.
@TheTradesmanChannel5 жыл бұрын
I do a lot of undercuts but like the wedges in some cases.

If you want a more easy cut just get a big piece of bee wax and hold it on the moving saw blade but be careful to not come from the site with the teeth just from the backside of the blade! That reduces the force the mashine need to move through the wood and let your blade stay sharp longer
