To be fair we outplayed them most the match...especially the 2nd half...Problem was...Madrid's tactical-defence was solid like a brick wall...We scuffed some shots/missed chances...and Madrid were more than happy to take it to penalties cos they were more likely to win it that way than we were [City Aren't Known For Penalty-Shootout-Wins]...i.e. "not in LIVE play" cos we were battering them...Besides, we can't win it every year, the law-of-averages apply here. Whoever knocked us out whether it be Bayern/Madrid etc deserve to go on and win it. Their tactics worked on the night. There was no skullduggery or really bad foul-play...or ref conspiracies. In LIVE play it was a draw...an unfortunate penalty shootout had to decide it...We move on....

It's funny about stats. City look better in absolute terms, but not in relative terms. If you look at the ratios, RM were better both defensively and offensively . Out of 210 minutes over both legs, City managed to be ahead only 18 minutes while RM was ahead for 116 minutes . RM had City where they wanted moat of the time.

The moment you think you can take heart is the very same moment you have got to guard yourself from heartbreak. And this football game is the confirmation in my opinion. In hindsight this game was a game of 2 game plans, Madrid surprised a lot of people by going for the low block and looking to break if they could. Their early goal really gave them a foothold for their plan, and for me gave them a solid platform to incorporate their plan and fight for it. Our plan, to do what we do. Dominate, try and craft openings, keep creating and recycle until we break the opponents resolve. And let's be fair both plans worked for both teams so well that the contest even with all it's entertainment did ultimately label itself as a stalemate by the end of the 120 odd minutes. Even though personally I thought we were everything we are on the night. It just wasn't enough to crack a superbly well organised Madrid. I have to give credit even to negative quality's. If desperate measures are called for and it seem like the only way to get a result, then who can say anything bad about what Madrid went for. By the end of the penalties it had worked for them. We just couldn't break their hold on precedings. My feeling, I was totally gutted. What a crash to see wonderfully creative football fall to an impenetrable defensive wall and in a game of football between 2 of the best teams in the world. The outcome may have been a hugely disappointing result for all us City fans, but the season goes on, still there are titles to compete for and our beloved team to support. Let's get off riding the wave of hopefully short lived disappointment and make a 12th man fist so strong that we can fight for the remainder of the season. So well done Real Madrid, congratulations on getting past one of the best footballing sides in the world. As for the penalties, the chance open the winning door fell at our feet when Modric's pen was saved, yet we slammed the door on our own foot as we all witnessed. Damn it. Being able to accept and navigate through failure, ridicule, hate and suffering for all that it is while simultanoeusly being able to demonstrate authentic actions as pure soul beings determines one's capacity to attract greatness. Bellingham played injured, yet he ran 14 km. He is a world class, I hope after going trough the theater this summer next season his injury would be totally gone. RM was not in its prime that is for sure, we have been hammered by injuries of our starter players. At least 10 alone during this current season, and yet we managed to win vs the best City that has ever existed. Scary right? Nex season RM will have a 9 and lets hope all of our players in their primes. We'll see you next year, it will be our pleasure to play vs City, you've done great in the last years. We might be assisting to the birth of a new classic rivality, and that is great great news for everybody. Unlimited oil money vs Royalty history.

Another treble was never gonna happen anyway, we are hardly prolific Champions League winners, and the truth is that we fell asleep at the back for Madrids 3rd goal last week, and we completely fell asleep at the back for their goal last night .... Real Madrid will probably win the competition again now, because they ARE prolific Champions League winners! I could just tell when De Bruyne put that great chance over the bar last night that it wasn't gonna happen for us .... and a couple of our penalties at the end were really poor, despite Alvarez getting us off to a good start, as Modric missed. We looked really tired towards the end of the match last night, especially Rodri, and we face a real challenge to even win a trophy now .... Arsenal and Liverpool are too close for comfort behind us in the league table .. and we could well have to beat both in form Chelsea and United to land the FA Cup ..... but time will tell, as they say!

Twelve hours after the disappointment of last night so hopefully a more dispassionate comment. Firstly, I was in the upper tier of the East Stand and all the talk around me pre-kick off was that the match was too close too call. There was not going to be a repeat of last year. I thought the ref was woeful but that said, that is not an excuse and City had their chances to win, especially that KDB attempt in the dying minutes of the ninety. However, I don't want to scapegoat individuals and the team as a whole were not at their best, especially the midfield. My own view was that Grealish had been playing very well when he was substituted. A comment by the bloke sat next to me summed it up, we were trying too hard for that perfect pass to score a goal. As for the penalties, a second penalty shoot out for us this season and both have gone horribly wrong. Given that Saturday's match could also be decided that way if I am not mistaken and no doubt Pochetino would have been looking at that very carefully. Perhaps Pep could do worse than give Matt Le Tissier a bell this morning! PS Haaland has been getting some stick, some of it deserved no doubt, but if your striker is not getting decent service what can you expect?

Hello Ian, very disappointing to go out after completely dominating the game, Real Madrid were very well organised a and made it really difficult for us to break through. I never thought it'd be like last year, but still thought we had enough to go through, the players gave everything and Madrid can count themselves very lucky to make the semi-finals. Hopefully this disappointment can galvanize us to go on and win all our remaining games, the next 2 games are crucial, especially Brighton on Thursday. Come on City.

Hard luck, City. What a tremendous game. Penalties are a bitchy way to lose. If they show that attacking endeavour, speed and drive in the remaining PL games, we will have a good chance of winning it. I think the fans who want the PL title over an FA Cup win will be in the majority, me included. Some would have a curiosity as to why Haaland and KDB were both off the FOP for penalties. Me included. I would have subbed Ederson for Ortega before penalties. Ederson is no shot stopper. I think all the players, who gave so much tonight and must have no energy in their batteries, should be rested in the Chelsea game. Give it no priority whatsoever. Get our stars recharged for an assault on the league.
