Mark, Man City are far from in a crisis. They lost to arguably the second best team in the competition on a penalty shootout, and over the two legs were the better team. Whether they created enough significant chances is irrelevant when Madrid essentially rode their luck in the second leg and were backs to the wall. They are far from in a crisis. I still believe CL is knockout football where anything can happen, a bit like the world cup. The best team will not always win. The first leg was a CL classic, but this game was a complete bore-fest. You can make an argument it is Real Madrid’s fault, but I actually think the opposite is true. Pep is so stubborn with his tactics that there are only 2 possible outcomes - a boring game or a heavy victory for City. If you choose a boring game and practice your penalties or take 1 or 2 chances on the break, then Pep can’t do anything because he won’t gamble by changing the style to go more direct. He won’t allow an end-to-end game almost as if he abhors that kind of football which most neutrals love. I remember Ole beat him loads of times with the simplest tactics. I think there is a very good case to be made for Ancelotti being a better manager than Pep. Both of them are winners, but Ancelotti is a versatile manager; his teams play more than one way. Pep seems to be chasing some kind of perfection like a mad genius, but I think he is becoming misguided and has forgotten this is entertainment.
