A divorce is a legal dissolvement of your marriage given to you by a court. So legally you're not considered married anymore, but for Christians you're still are and that means that you're living an adulterous life. An annulment is given to you by the Catholic Church (not sure how other denominations work). Catholics get an annulment because the church doesn't allow divorcee to partake in church activities and they aren't allowed to take communion either. Which is one of the most important things for Catholics. Also it's not easy to get an annulment, divorce is not accepted so of course the priest will try to convince you that the conflict can be worked on. Most of the time there has to be adultery or abuse involved for the church to agree that the marriage is unhealthy. Catholics get both divorce and their marriage annulled, otherwise there will be legal and/or religious problems.

what they were talking about married there is this day that people use to do called Lughnasadh. Basically, it was just for celebrating the harvest seasons and something called the "three-face know as Lugh". However, you can get married on this day, and when a year and one day comes you can divorce if you want with no consequences or judges and things like that. So if for some reason things don't work out like, if you booth realize it was too early for this or it just did not work out as you and your partner thought it would or whatever then you guys can call it off when the one year and one day later comes. how it does happen the marriage part is that the two lovers meet at a certain wooden door one on each side and put your hand through a hole and say your vows and then you guys are married. This was also called a "Trial Marriage" as well

For the Catholic Church, an annulment is the only accepted break from marriage because the when you say your wedding vows in church it's seen as also a vow to God that you'll stay together til death. An annulment is the church granting a break from vows for certain reason. The church technically doesn't accept divorces which is seen as just a break of marriage license

An annulment in the catholic church is used to divorce. You have to have a very good reason that the church would be able to understand.Since marriage is a sacrament it can't be broken. Even if you were to be legally divorced, the church would still consider you married. An annulment allows you to be divorced in the church and be able to remarry in the catholic church. If you remarry without one it can't be in the catholic church, and the church considers it adultery because it still recognizes you as married to the first person. I think this guy was using the excuse he gave to get an annulment from the church. It's easier to get one in the LA archdiocese now because they give that authority to the local parish level rather than it having to go all the way up the rankings.

An annulment is like the marriage never happened. It is null and void. A divorce happened over a longer period of time. At least a year or more in most the cases I've seen. In this instance,in the instance of a divorce One can you contest a prenup agreement or other legal factors. Whereas in an annulment this is less of an issue.
