A truly challenging day over Honister Pass into Buttermere in the Lake District. Near freezing conditions, Ice and i dropped the Triumph Tiger 1200. Note the best of days and about £300 worth of damage. Lesson Learned, never ride on Ice 🧊 #triumph #honisterpass #lakedistrictnationalpark #ice #motorcycle

That’s a shame buddy, we can all look back and think why did I think that was a good idea, upper crash bars help avoid the fairing damage. Glad you’re ok, all part of the learning process that is never over 👍. Don’t mention drones, been there. Not a lucky day…..

Well you wanted adventure - you've had one! Before cars became affordable workers would commute on their motorbikes through snow & ice like that. My grandfather once got lost in a blizzard in North Wales. My dad went out on his bike to look for him. Gauntlets and a greatcoat! I think we're getting a bit soft these days but I applaud your honesty in showing the spill - we tend to keep those to ourselves.

Glad you're OK. Nice bike, luckily the damage wasn't too bad and lucky you didn't tumble the wrong way over the side of the hill! As a Cumbrian, a bit of advice for anyone thinking of coming up in the winter. Bear in mind altitude which will affect temperatures, and the fact that the sun is low all day so some roads don't even get any sun because they're behind a hill, so the ice never melts. Also, valleys can funnel wind, increasing any wind chill and creating colder areas and retaining any ice. And lastly, the roads are narrow and there's not much room to avoid anything or take a 'convenient' fall! I've just bought a BMW GS so I'll soon find out if I can handle it on these roads as I'm a shorta**e! 😂 Take care, all but enjoy your ride 👍🏻

Yes if its 2/3 degC along the motorway, those upland passes will almost certainly be icy, especially north facing slopes. I thought 20 years of mtb would've rammed that home but... i still slid off with the motorbike on a shaded roundabout last winter. Always learning. They should put an ice mode on these ECUs. Twist throttle = absolutely zero response ;)

Good job it’s all repairable and some hurt pride. And hopefully lessons learned. Personally I don’t go out riding much in winter. But since I live not far from buttermere I need to get out into the park more than I do. It is a stunning place the lake district and I’m probably guilty of taking it for granted. But equally next year I may also tour up the west coast of Scotland. I use to be an all season biker but much prefer it know riding in better weather 🌦️. In winter I plan my next tours and big trips also get any work needed done ready for them. And yes I have become a sessional biker.

Glad you were OK. I did something similar back in August when I was touring the Yorkshire Dales with my brother on my GS Rallye. I came upon a ford that was showing 6" of water so I approached cautiously, went through slowly then a few feet in the bike just dropped. Similar to your low speed drop. Fortunately my crash bars saved my legs. I just lay there winded for a while. Getting wet. Looking back at my brother, he was pissing himself! He parked his bike just short of the ford then proceeded to wade in to help me. He took no more tan 3 steps and he went bang down! Completely lost his footing. It turns out that the bottom of the ford, the base had been concreted with a smooth finish which, over time, had completely been covered in green slime. More slippy than a slippy thing! So we both ended up completely wet through and incapacitated due to laughter! When eventually, when we stopped laughing, dragged the GS to the side of the the concrete base where we could at least stand, then over about 20 minutes dragged it to the side where we could up end it. Being a GS I hit the start button and it roared into life. I love that bike! I also love my brother. He's, as an ex Police motorcyclist for 16 years, plus he's the only person I feel comfortable riding with. We always seem to know what the other is thinking. So that's a good thing! The GS just needed some touch up on the crash bars then it's was as good as new. I first did my Police class 1 motorcycle training some 40 years ago, Now at the grand old age of 69, I've just signed up to do it all over again. Wish me luck!

So happy you're ok, but want to say thank you for posting this 'real life' event, am a motorcyclist myself in the UK and this can happen. It's so quick and happens without any warning, brilliant how you coped with it and still gave commentary. i have had it happen at on wet grass on camp sites and at gas stations and it always means a struggle to upend the bike, they weigh a ton. As for the Drone.... man you were having a bad day, but respect you kept going. This is life, i once cane of my bike and later that day cracked my iPhone screen, this is what happens. i have total respect for your upload, some would just show a nice sunset. have not only liked but subscribed "

I appreciate you sharing this. Vulnerability is a super power that most will never tap into. It makes us all better. That being said, all falls are scary. Sheesh. Glad you had on all the gear! I remember some time ago when you got the bike I asked you whether you were getting uppers and bark buster hand guards. I believe that you didn’t care for the aesthetics of them. Do you think this changes your mind about those additions? Great that people came to check on you. Also your attitude about your fall (and the drone loss is A+.) Keep creating. Be well my friend.

from one Nick to another, from one minnow on the YT vlogging scene to a seasoned vet and from one lover of drones to another - what an eventful day you had, you have my sympathies. well hopefully rider and bike ok :) ..."you can see here, sheer ice"...checks speedo...18mph.....continues onto more ice...then trys braking lol.......1st gear idle would be my go to for this and cover back brake only and head for the grass at the side for more traction until clear but we've all done daft stuff myself included where you look back and see what you could of done different so long as you learn something all good :)

Glad you are OK. But in the Lake District after a wet spell, in December, with temperatures hovering below zero, on narrow roads that you know won't have been gritted! Why take the risk when you know its very likely you will encounter ice. As black adder would say its slipperyer than a slippy thing thats been to night classes to learn how to be slippy🙄Take care on the rest of your travels dude!

Glad you're ok, and bikes not too bad. I went out satday for an hour on my GS over Longridge Fell. At ground level it was 5.5c at the top 1200ft it dropped to 2.0c as I crested the north side with sleet banked up at the side. A bit of slush n ice for a few yards but now't too serious.... (nothing like yours) . Not a big deal, but Beware, guys, especially North facing or sheltered spots.

Thanks for another quality video Nick Glad you were ok after the off, absolute master class in picking up the bike in dodgy conditions. On a side note give your dealer a bell mate because the tip over switch should have knocked the engine off and didn't seem to. Running on its side can result in engine damage but more importantly rider damage should anything end up in the wheels. All the best.

Damn, glad you're ok man! Looks like you were coming down just a little too fast for such treacherously slippery ground, though I imagine even peddling on that would be tricky. Top heavy bike especially doesn't help, though it wouldn't be a real ADV biked without some kind of scuff or battle scar now would it? :) Like a 4WD with no dirt on it. Good thing it wasn't the Bonnie! Safe riding mate.

I doubt that speed had anything to do with it. He was riding very slowly and carefully. It was the lack of friction between tyre and road surface that caused the front wheel to slip out to the side due to the smallest steering input and/or camber in the road. In fact, had he been going more quickly, there is a chance that the gyroscopic effect of the wheels would have helped the bike stay upright - but I wouldn't recommend trying it on a public road!
