Our neighbors accuse us of intentionally stirring up their dogs coz we have to walk past their house when we walk down the road our house is on. I mean how dare we. Their dog came onto our property and killed our chickens and that was our fault too. Some neighbours really suck!

I used to have a neighbor who hated that we fed deer. In particular, we were rehabilitating some very badly injured deer. The neighbor called the cops on us. Every time he saw the deer in our yard. Sometimes it would be three in the morning and every single time, the cop said it’s their property and they can do what they want. The neighbor made us miserable, until he finally gave up. We were extremely afraid of him, but the deer were rehabilitated and moved on. However, he was on our ass about them until we moved for other reasons.

I’m not being ugly, just pointing out that maybe outdoor type groups should be more attentive to how they are dressed and prepared with preventative tick and insect repellents, or 0:05 maybe look closer to home. This does come from someone diagnosed but untreated in time with RMSF (during high Covid lab activity) . Ticks can tend hang around on trees, grasses, living things or inanimate. Hi! Indeed, the country is full of wildlife. My dear Mom came face to face (almost nose to nose!) with a large black bear that was napping under our deck over the summer. He grunted at her and she slowly backed away and ran into the house. Having spent a large part of my life in rural areas, and not hearing much at all about Lyme disease cases, I really don’t worry about it. We just check ourselves carefully for any ticks. But for people who maybe aren’t comfortable around wildlife, I can understand why they’d feel the way they do about it. Take care!

Had Neil called the police and then gone out the front door with the shotgun and not pointed it but told his wife to come inside, he might have had a defense claiming that he thought Todd was reaching for a gun! The moment he snuck out a window and hid in the shadows at the corner of his house he screwed up! The only reason to do things the way he did was for the element of surprise, he wanted to remain unseen to get lined up for a shot! I think he snapped and felt like he was being punished with the restraining order and his beef with the neighbor was now affecting his wife and kids. He knew when he climbed out the window that he was going to put an end to the situation once and for all!

Thanks for the upload, Dr. Grande, as always. Heard about this case before, but not so informatively. Was with a friend the other day, who asked me - Q. "What do you call a deer with no eyes?" A. 🤷‍♀ "No eye-deer". And ... Q. "What do you call a deer, with no eyes and three legs?" A. 🤷‍♀🤷‍♀"STILL no eye-deer". (Free groans included). But, in defense, it does work better as a vocal pun, rather than as a written one, though.

That feels like a bit of a stretch for conviction involving premeditation. People often keep a loaded gun in their home for defense, and with the police failing to do anything about Todd threatening to kill his neighbors (also a crime in Minnesota), I'd sail Neil was justified for keeping a loaded shotgun. It really seems to me that the New Brighton police were the ones who failed here. The unwarranted arrest of Neil's son based on unverified claims, in a bar that he was at prior to the arrival of the alleged victim. Not to mention Todd making so many more threats of death and violence and not being arrested.

Yes deer look cute to feed and watch but actually they can cause big problems such as eat all the vegetables and flowers you plant and bushes if it’s a drought season. Also, they do carry ticks, so it is a realistic concern, and they easily overpopulate in some places specially if they have enough food. What time I put flowers on a relative graveyard and I looked back before I was leaving in my car and I saw deer eating the flowers.

It's interesting how things can get so heated between neighbors. Then it turned into a pissing match between the men. It escalated to the point of a murder. Once you're that angry, the emotions take over and you legitimize in your own mind, that taking the law into your own hands is worth it. After you cool off and get sentenced to life in prison, you see the result of your emotional thinking. Probably even wonder how you'd ever justified what you did as okay! I've lived in my neighborhood for 32 years and there have been several riffs between neighbors over that time. Both parties usually see things from only their perspective, so nothing really changes. In my case, I've tried to resolve differences with my neighbor, but it usually doesn't change how he feels about it. At that point, I've chosen to drop the pursual of my opinion. I recognize that I've stated how I feel - regardless of the outcome. So in my mind, it's a no win situation. I don't take it as if I've given into their opinion, but rather that we're at a stalemate. It boils down to feeling that you tried and nothing changed. But if you continue pushing the issue, you are then part of exacerbating the situation which will not have a good ending. Unfortunately, too many people think "it's my way or the highway" so they can't see that there are two sides to the argument and continuing it won't change a thing. We need to change our attitude about differences. Our country is very divided over many opposite views/issues. It's not a healthy mindset and it's caused a lot of unnecessary division. There's truth in the saying, "Divide and conquer". Once divisiveness becomes the #1 outcome, there's nothing good that comes from that way of thinking. ---Done with rant---

I'm a lifelong gun owner and hunter. You don't accidentally shoot a gun four times. A shotgun (and guns legal for civilians to own in general) requires you to lift your finger off the trigger in order to be able to fire again, and if it was a pump action you'd also have to rack it before each time you fire. Regardless you NEVER EVER have your finger on the trigger of any firearm unless you're ready to fire. This was no accident or spur of the moment impulse. This man knew what he was doing the entire time, and has no defense for what he did.

It’s actually difficult to say who was in the right or wrong (before the shooting) personally I’d say let the neighbors feed the deer, and if it bothers you make a deterrent around the edge of your property to make sure they don’t encroach into your space. It was always unlikely the ones feeding the deer would stop because of his request. So unfortunately you just have to make the most of a bad situation and accept that’s what they’re going to do.
