Here in Illinois we have the strictest gun laws in the nation, and Highland Park has both an " assault rifle" ban and another ban on any semi automatic firearm, yet this happened anyway it's just pure evil even if he hadn't been able to lay his grubby hands on a firearm,he probably would have used anything else, in his senseless rampage. I'm glad that his arrest was swift, and I hope that his punishment is just as swift, without years of legal maneuvers, mental health evaluations, etc,etc, and I don't mean life in Menard, Elgin, or any other State institution. Enough is enough! Bring back the death penalty!

Also, he could've purchased the weapon while living in another state, then moved to Illinois & taken his arsenal w/him during said move. In most states, you don't even have to re-register a gun or re-acquire a license in the state you've moved to (tho I believe you do in Illinois). Having said that, homicidal Shaggy here likely didn't care much when it comes to following state law, or rules & regulations. I can't exactly say when but the media and the news tried not to make the active shooting suspects famous so there won't be copycats like the ones who've been inspired by the Columbine Massacre.
