Man Injured in Shark Attack Near Monterey

A swimmer suffered “significant injuries” in a shark attack near Monterey Wednesday morning, according to police. Scott Budman reports.

More than one person has been attacked by sharks at this very spot. Many many years ago someone Was Bitten into two pieces at Lovers Point.

Yes. That is probably why they chose that name. Like the 49ers, oilers, whalers, redskins, avalanche, hurricanes etc, there is history behind the name. Or at least some cultural reference about the locale. Doesn't San Jose have a huge aquarium, too? I could be mistaken, but I feel like "The San Jose Aquarium" rings a bell. Or the Monterey Bay Aquarium. There are tons of aquariums in socal, so it's hard to remember.

I know. Shark bites are so rare. There were only 201 documented shark attacks in California between 1950 and 2021. Less than 3 a year on average. Out of how many millions of people that swim in those waters.

They patrol kelp forests when they hunt. If you’re swimming with a black wetsuit on.. And going adjacent to a kelp forest and back, such as lovers point, you’re mimicking an injured seal outside of a kelp forest.
