Hatchery Creek is a man made stream below the Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery that flows into the Cumberland River. Hundreds of people attended the grand opening and caught trout that swam upstream into the creek.

There are more miles of flowing water in Kentucky than in any other state in the US, except Alaska. Yes, this includes Idaho.

Thank God I live in Wisconsin, the trout fishing is always good and I never saw another soul while on the rivers or streams yet. The fatter Sconnies get the less trout fishermen their will be.

Great project. It’s been almost 10 years now since this stream opened. Is it still operating? Is there invertebrate life to feed the fish? If so, how many years did it take for the inverterbrate life to take hold?

i think this cool , i talked with a friend of mine about more and more of fishing areas being blocked off from the general public. Areas where families could fish. Fishing is a great hobby for troubled children. Our youth are in trouble in this country and fishing is a great hobby for them and could get some out of gangs and doing something fun and also build character. I stopped at a local ponds area in my town and i had not been there in a long time, well the whole area had been bought up and was fenced off to the public. Trespassing signs up and no fishing for anyone. Well except if you own land. Just sad to see another spot where people brought there kids to enjoy fishing blocked off by big business.

If I had the money to help our rivers and streams I would do it. I'll even donate money to fish hatchery. These fish will slowly go extinct if no one does anything about it.

There was a spawning stream created and reformed, and even the damn outflow used to supply the cold water has hardly any natural trout. All trout are farmed raised and won’t reproduce. They keep having to dump new trout. My information is from going to camp there the past 17 years, and asking if it has succeeded. It’s fun and they are plenty of trout to catch but it’s not self sustained by any means.
@jdrover85816 жыл бұрын
By catching them numerous times its just as well you kept them because of the damage is it not

after fishing that stream a lot, over the past 5 years I have watched that water go from nice fishing and easy walking, to areas so mucked up and over grown, that fly fishing is getting difficult!

It saddens me that we can put all this time, money, and effort into creating our own artificial trout streams rather than trying to protect and replenish the ones that mother nature intended us to fish! Screw that! Nothing beats catching wild trout!

billions are spent just on trying to keep asian carps from reaching the great lakes. Billions are spent on conservation efforts, don't assume the government isn't concerned with this since the media loves distorting news. Step out of your bubble and do some research.

That's not true at all, large trout are predatory and will eat many of the same food sources bass do.

So? You can catch plenty of trout on spinners/spoons, so why not? Fly fishing's great, but the pretentious attitude some have isn't.
@tonyv11796 жыл бұрын
indicator ? you might as well use a spinning rod and bobber .
@timparker15526 жыл бұрын
Strike indicators are super small and weigh barely anything. Corks & floats won't catch you as many fish cause of the extra weight. Trout bite very very lightly

First law of catch and release trout fishing, use a barbless hook. Second rule, do not remove the fish from the water. Third rule, do not touch the fish, even with a wet hand. Saw quite a few fish killed in this vid. What a shame......
@MP-no8yy7 жыл бұрын
not true. as long as your hand is wet and they aren't out of the water for to long they will be fine
@davidbeckenbaugh95987 жыл бұрын
Wow! You have EVERY fish and wildlife department against that one, as well as every fisheries department in every college in the USA and Canada. Better rethink that. It's so wrong, the law in Washington state is that it is flat out illegal to remove a trout or salmon from the water if you intend to release it. $500 MINIMUM fine.
@MP-no8yy7 жыл бұрын
well mate if they can survive 40 celsius degrees here in australia after taking a quick photo and the hands are wet they should be fine
@thethrill02967 жыл бұрын
david beckenbaugh well, I'm making a net, so hopefully the trout and other fish I catch stay safe.
@davidbeckenbaugh95987 жыл бұрын
@william.. we are required to use a knotless net so the knots do not rub the slime off the fish. While i think it is fine if the fish is in the net and the net is left in the water (just use the net to keep the fish under control), seems there is some argument on that. Personally, the problem with it is because people put the fish in the net and then pick the fish up via the net. "Making' a net? Few people do that anymore. Might be interesting....
