Clark is only about 18 when his Earth father is killed. He doesn't know any of his powers except the strength and the heat vision. He is 33yo when he has his first flight. When he fights Zod he has had ZERO experience of fighting. Zod is right - he's a born warrior. Clark is a farmer. There are so many thing people pretend they don't understand about this film, it's crazy.

The scout ship in the glacier was explained in a Man of Steel prequel comic. It belonged to Kara Zor El aka Supergirl. She was the pilot who was part of the mission called the Great Expansion to search for distant habitable worlds. The story involve events that ultimately led her to crash land on Antarctica 18,000 years ago. The ice around the object however is older due to time dialation, because the ship travelled from another region of space via phantom drive.

I understand people hate Jonathan’s death but I always ask people look at Jonathan’s POV, you have a superhuman son would you rather that son protect you or your wife? And he’s also scared what will happen to Martha if Clark is found out, then as Clark said Jonathan knew the world isn’t ready to realise what KAL is & what he can do. It’s really about a son fully understanding and respecting his father’s wishes even in the event of death. Wonderfully written, but people can like or dislike just be sure to understand before making your decision

_Henry Cavill’s portrayal of Superman in Man of Steel (2013) stands out due to its nuanced characterization and modern reimagining of the iconic hero. Cavill’s Superman is not merely a symbol of hope; he is depicted as a complex individual grappling with his dual identity as both an alien and a human._ _This depth in character development is a significant departure from Brandon Routh’s portrayal in Superman Returns (2006), where Superman’s character felt more static and less emotionally resonant. Cavill’s performance is marked by a palpable sense of inner conflict and vulnerability, which allows audiences to connect with him on a more personal level._ _This is enhanced by the film’s exploration of Superman’s origins and his struggle to find his place in the world, adding layers to his heroism that Routh’s iteration lacked._ _The flying scenes in Man of Steel are a testament to the film’s superior visual effects and storytelling techniques. Cavill’s Superman soars through the skies with a sense of raw power and exhilaration that is vividly captured through dynamic camera work and advanced CGI._ _The sequences are characterized by rapid acceleration, breathtaking aerial maneuvers, and a visceral sense of speed, which convey the sheer might and agility of Superman. In contrast, the flying scenes in Superman Returns are more restrained and traditional, relying heavily on the nostalgia of previous Superman films._ _While Routh’s Superman elegantly glides through the air, these scenes lack the kinetic energy and immersive quality that make Cavill’s flights so thrilling. Man of Steel’s flying scenes are not just about spectacle; they reflect Superman’s journey of self-discovery and his growing confidence in his abilities, making them integral to both the narrative and the character’s development._

31:03 A while back I can't remember if it was a single comic or two separate comics but a sort of what if end was written for Batman and Superman. Batman's end was physical his body just could no longer carry on and Superman's end was moral. Superman was forced into a position where he had to kill and the being he killed was near omnipotent able to change reality at will and everyone around him agreed he had no other option and tried to comfort him but for Superman he couldn't accept that because in his eyes Superman is the one hero that can never kill. The real Superman doesn't kill Snyder and Hollywood writers in general just can't seem to do DC heroes not named Batman justice.

In terms of Superman killing Zod, don't forget that he did it in Superman 2 as well with Christopher Reeve. In that film, 3 Kryptonians perished in arctic water. Unless of course you have seen the Donner cut. That said, people forget that in Batman and Batman Returns, he killed, several times. Also, Batman has killed in the comics several times as well, but he prefers not to, just like Superman.

The movie grounds his powers. But in the truth is that Kal El has these things going for him that makes him infinitely powerful. His body from infancy absorbed more Sunlight then any Kryptonian ever could. On krypton he is as strong as say the guy that works docks. On Earth he is a Super Kryptonian. His body is naturally more durable because its not tailored to his peoples planet. He had 33 years to master himself and his abilities. Fun fact his mind is ten times more powerful then all out computers combined. His peoples knowledge lives with him. All 130 thouands worlds worth. Even if you do hurt him. He heals. More or less like Wolverine. His cell complex is beyond us. His cell structure is more built up. That codex is of the last true kryptonian. Everybody else that came after are called genetically enginered clones. Bioroids. Making clark a true Kryptonian. The scary part is that because he looks human we dont put too much into whats under the hood. He has organs we dont have words for.

I do enjoy Man of Steel more as an Elseworlds storyline. Showcasing a Superman storyline in a world more reflective of our own something the Nolan Batman films achieved as well. But as a Superman film I personally just never really cared for it. Superman (1978) is a much better introduction to the Man of Steel as it does highlight more of his origin story while this film already assumes you know the basics of Superman and want to see a differant spin on the character and world. What I liked: Krypton is really cool in this film, mix of ancient folklore meets H.R. Giger. Even though I personally prefer other versions of Krypton from the comics and cartoons this villain showcased a really cool visually design and history for the planet and it's people. The cinematography for this film is great, still would've liked more colour personally but alot of Superhero films post Dark Knight kind of went for a similar dark and gritty look and feel something carried right over into Man of Steel for a more dirty Superman inspired a little more by the New 52 comics. Michael Shannon is an amazing General Zod and for me carried this whole film. Fight scenes were of course amazing and the music by Hans Zimmer is really good. What I disliked: It's not featured too much in this film but I never cared for how boring and uninteresting Metropolis looked. In the comic Metropolis is the City of Tomorrow. Very Art Deco with a cool retro 1950s futuristic art direction. It's the opposite of Gotham City, a light contrasted by darkness. So I was disappointed that Metropolis just looked like a generic American city similar to how I felt about Gotham in Dark Knight and Dark Knight Rises. Hopefully this is something the new DC Universe corrects with James Gunn's Superman film, give us a visually interesting Metropolis that looks alive instead of some copy and paste New York clone that was made to be destroyed in blender. The Fortress of Solitude being a Kryptonian Scout Ship was... well it's differant but nothing will ever bet the actual Fortress of Solitude from the comics, animation, and even other films like Superman 1978. And finally the death of Jonathan Kent... People love to argue over this but I personally just never cared for it. But I'm glad you both enjoyed the film. I was only 13 when this film released but I was pretty mixed on it even as a kid coming off the cartoons and thinking "Wait this is pretty differant to the Superman I know and love". But over the years I've embraced the film as a pretty good Elseworlds take on the character that puts it's own spin on Superman and the world of DC. I personally just never cared for DC Projects that treat the DC universe as our own reality.

To answer your questions: Kryptonians on Krypton are roughly equal to humans in terms of their physical abilities. Their "super powers'" (strength, flight, etc.) come from their powered armor. On earth, their super powers outside of their armor (strength, speed, flight, invulnerability, heat rays, x-ray vision) come from exposure to the solar radiation of Earth's yellow dwarf sun. Because in their native environment they are physically no better than humans, kryptonian soldiers are trained in hand-to hand combat, while growing up on Earth with super-strength, speed, etc, Superman never trained, he just brawls based on instinct. So when Kryptonian soldiers fight Superman either in their power armor or with earth Solar powers, they have an advantage and > should < kick superman's butt (except for the necessity of hero plot).
