Man Of Steel Easter Eggs
Ok so the movie opens with the Warner Bros, DC and Rat Pac logos in the form of Kryptonian metal. Not only does this play into the idea of Krypton's aesthetic and style but it also subtly let's us know their biggest downfall.
Throughout this introduction we learn that the people of the planet mined too much and this eventually caused the planet to implode. The metal can be seen laced throughout all of their technology from their armour, to their ships, holograms and communication devices. Clearly they became so reliant on it that they completely harvested the planet's core of the resource and this eventually lead to the death of their world. Though it's never said in the movie, just looking at this design it's clearly been chosen as a reason for why Krypton fell apart and shows just how much the creative team were thinking into this aesthetic.
This is mirrored into the name of the film itself and how it ties to Superman. Originally Krypton was thought of as an Ice Planet, however Snyder and co thought long and hard about why the character would be known as the man of steel and how this would tie to his origin. Thus they tied in the characters long established name to his home and also how it ended up destroying itself.
From here we witness the birth of Kal-El. Accompanying the score by Hans Zimmer we can also hear Kal-El's heartbeat and symbolically this shows that Superman is the Heart of the DC universe.
His birth also mirrors his death in many ways and the positioning of the shot in this scene was purposely chosen by Snyder to show the beginning and end of his life .
Though he was ressurected in Justice League, this is an astounding use of cinematography and is definitely a credit to just how good Snyder is able to visualise things.
Jor-El visits the council and his pleas fall on deaf ears. The way this scene is shot also echoes Lara's death and is purposely repeated to show that the fault of her death lies and Krypton itself lies solely with the politicians.
She is also killed by fire. In Batman V Superman Lex asks Clark what to do with a witch and then he suggests death by fire. Had Martha been killed in the movie she would've been burned alive, showing the mirroring of his two mothers.
Jor-El arrives with his forces and you may notice that one of them is a giant compared to the rest. This is actually a character called Nam-Ek. He is this size because the character actually fused his biology with the Rondor beast that we see in the opening of the movie in order to give him larger musles and physical prowess.
Jor-El is escorted away by Zod's forces but he manages to gain the upper hand with help from Keelex. Keelex is actually a reference to the robotic butler that Jor-El had in the comics and it's a nice little nod to the source material.
Jor-El goes and gets the Kodex and in order to do this he has to dive into water and swim for it. This is paralleled in Batman V Superman when a diver does the same thing in order to grab the massive kryptonie rock.

4 of those films I understand. Prometheus was a terrible Alien prequel but an amazing sci-fi horror flick. JJ Abrams Star Trek films are leagues better than all of the Star Wars sequel trilogy. Great cast, action, and look. Man of Steel is probably the best DCEU film as it feels like an original vision. Predators is just a fun in the jungle action flick second best Predator movie. Alien Resurrection is trash. It is as hideous to look at as the story that was crafted from it. Whedon’s dialogue feels like it would have been excellent in a AVP film rather than an Alien film. Battleship needed to change its name and It is just so forgettable and underwhelming of a movie it’s hard to remember what to like or hate from it. 4 out of 6 in my opinion for those films.
@donovan3476
@donovan3476 4 жыл бұрын
I think Prometheus (2012) was a setup for what should have been a proper follow-up. Which was then destroyed by Alien: Covenant (2017), which was not his original vision but a shipwreck, a result of him bending to persevered backlash.

@@heavyspoilers And I thought it was a missed opportunity to reveal in the movie or maybe it was cut from the film. Zod should've told Kal-El during the "Inception" scene that Jor-El was responsible for terraforming planets killing billions. It would've made Jor-El's speeches of being "a force for good' and "you can save all of them" weigh heavier on the audience.

My brothers biggest dislike about MoS was the destruction of Metropolis. I asked him if he had ever read a Superman Comic. Read any short story arc and you will see Metropolis is always being destroyed by someone or something and it is always being rebuilt. Superman is a universal figure and powerhouse, he needs universal threats. If they gave him small threats and small consequences then he would be a laughing stock (looking at you Superman 3/4& Returns). I say the "greater the suffering the greater the peace". Note: In Mission Impossible Henry's character Walker says "Hope is not a strategy" which my wife pointed out to me and I think is a hidden Easter egg to Henry playing Superman lol.

Zod's neck was also snapped in the comics. So yeah, Superman would do that if it's a threat that needs to be taken care of to save everyone.

I know it’s not MOS.. but in BVS when Batman tags the truck and turns on the LEDs.. he pulls out of a dock called “Nicholson terminal and dock company” I can’t help but wonder if that’s a nod to Jack Nicholson’s joker 🤷🏻‍♂️

When the tv show Krypton was first being developed, it was supposed to be about the dceu krypton. i was SOOOOO pumped for that, but i think after the backlash from BvS, they changed it kind of last minute. You can still see some elements from the DCEU with the command keys that originated in MoS.

I don’t know if this is true but I remember seeing on reddit a while ago that in addition to the pod that had Kara inside their was a rumour there was plan there would be another pod but it had been torn apart hinting to Doomsday being on the loose as well. Obviously this didn’t make it into the film and if you ask me it’s for the best

Wow man, thank for adding so much depth and understanding to the film for me. Another potential allegory I noticed was when Superman Issa reaching for the Sun, as well as getting power from the Sun in general, this could also represent him truly gaining his power from the Son (sun) of God. I don't think it's much of a stretch given the Christian symbology already pointed out.

Thank you, its good to finally see yourself and some others finally realizing the quality and thought that has gone into all of the DC films. Snyder kicked it off and the others have followed in his footsteps. Even the maligned Suicide Squad and Harley Quin have been gold mines of detail, and Shazam although having a different tone continues this, also. These among other things allows for rewarding reviewing. I can still watch these movies multiple times and still enjoy them, and also see some things I missed in previous viewings. Joss's JL has become nearly nearly unwatchable because of it's lack of depth. This echos the banality of most of the Marvel films. I couldn't even get through the last two Avergers movies without fast forwarding and looking for an interesting scene. The opening sophomoric Ironman scenes in A2 were intolerable. There are one or two of these movies I can watch multiple times, but they are few and far between. We owe Snyder for giving this genera the quality that it has always deserved.

@Heavy Spoilers I think* I found an easter egg in BvS I've never heard of for your next one. In the Shot specifically before Batman walking with Superman thrown over his shoulder. Just before he's about to drop him down that shaft, there's a pillar in the background. On it, I could make out 1 of 2 types of text. (or the same text, that can be interpreted in two ways) I spent a lot of time on translating them as I wasn't sure if a character or two were letters, or shadows/ texture. But it states from what I can make: "Quis Cuse O Diet Ipsos Custodes?" I have the spacing of the language all wrong I'm sure, but I was able to find two very interesting translations that lead me to believe its validity. *1.) "Who will guard the guardians they despise." and *2.) "Who watches the Watchers?" Now both can be related to the theme of BvS, the later of the two Snyder's "Watchmen." I think the origin was a dialect of French/ Latin? Anyway... Thought it was cool, wanted to share. gg's!
