I can understand having sadness, being angry, or having grieved the loss of the ability to conceive more children; I cannot understand feeling self conscious or hiding it from a partner. She doesn’t seem self conscious about it at all though. She said she didn’t tell him because she wanted him to come visit and get to know her in person before she told him. They have obviously discussed the possibility of children in the future if she knows that he wants to become a father, and not being upfront about having had a procedure that makes that impossible is outright manipulative. I know this from firsthand experience! It feels like shit to have discussed children with your partner and find out LATER that they omitted such a big piece of information. My former partner took it a few steps farther than her though; we were “trying” to conceive our first child together and months went by with no results. I was in my mid-20’s, it shouldn’t have taken so long and he kept telling me, “we just need to try harder next month”… he had had a vasectomy years earlier and just never told me. He knew that I needed a partner who also wanted to have children with me, and that it was a dealbreaker that he not only didn’t want to but was unable to make that happen. If it was natural infertility, that would have been a different story but to lie by omission is outright manipulation and I have a lot of trust issues now because of this. If he’s willing to financially support her, that’s his choice. She made the choice to quit her job and to allow him to provide for her. She’s manipulating him because she’s afraid that by being honest, he may decide to move on and she may lose her meal ticket. I think she might find that being honest about the tubal ligation, especially if it was medically necessary for whatever reason, could have made their “relationship” stronger. He seems willing to do almost anything to make her happy, and may even have been willing to forgo becoming a father to biological children to stay with her. He may STILL be willing to do that, but it doesn’t change the fact that her actions are manipulative. As far as her being “out of his league”, that doesn’t mean a thing. Just because you don’t feel that he is an attractive enough partner for her, doesn’t mean that she agrees. My husband is 200% more attractive than I am, but he thinks I’m perfection in human form. I didn’t think I had a snowflake’s chance in hell when I met him, but everyone has a different idea of what is beautiful. If she thinks that’s he’s not good enough for her, or is just tolerating him for the money, there’s yet another tick on the manipulation checklist. When it comes to arrangements like theirs, honesty is key. There a necessity to set boundaries and expectations early so neither party ends up with a broken heart or out on the street unable to make ends meet.

The "short man" thing is a matter of preference. If a girl is bullying a guy bc he is short - it's bad and she is terrible. Having her tubes cut and burned is a tubal ligation- AKA getting your "tubes tied". Basically they cauterized her fallopian tubes shut as a form of permanent BC. Its a pretty common procedure, a minor surgery (at least here in the US- theyre done in a couple hours and once you wake up, they send you home). They just make an incision in your belly button and use that to insert the tools, and then use a noninvasive scope vaginally. Cauterization is a lot more common than other forms, but there is an option to, instead, have them permanently "clamped", usually with a copper band, or you can have them fully or partially removed. So.. it sounds bad the way they put it.. but its a really simple procedure- again, at least in the US, idk if she was in a different situation where it was forced on her, etc. but usually its just a form of BC you choose to have done when you don't want to have kids, or to have any more kids. 🤷🏻‍♀️

She was able to get a tubal because she has two children. I bet if she were a single woman without children, she would have had a hard time finding a surgeon to perform her tubal ligation. Healthcare, especially in the US is still extremely misogynistic. Though there aren’t any real laws or even hospital policies surrounding performing a tubal on a childless woman, many practitioners will still require the permission of the partner or will have extreme hoops that you need to jump through before they’ll even consider allowing you to sign consent forms. Medical practitioners, especially male practitioners, seem to believe that someone who is seeking a tubal, especially at an early age, will regret the procedure and seek a reversal. They can’t seem to comprehend that women who do not want to become mothers exist. Or that even if they do want children, they don’t necessarily want to go through the process of pregnancy. It’s like they forget that there is the option to foster or adopt and think that there’s only one road to that destination. This is an issue that needs a lot more visibility.

Just like many who want children know as teenagers that at some point they’d like to become pregnant or adopt. Just because you don’t have your life “together” at 16 doesn’t mean that you don’t have the deep conviction that children are not in your future. That’s one of the attitudes that makes it so difficult for women who want a tubal ligation to get the procedure done. Even at 25 or 30, others think they know that you’re just “too young” or “haven’t met the right partner” and that they know better what is right for your life. It doesn’t matter if it seems too young to others; just like a man can have a vasectomy performed at 18 with very little pushback, a woman should be able to have a tubal at the same age. All that needs to be required is education about the risks of the procedure and informed consent. The deeply rooted misogyny of the medical system is absolutely disgusting.
