I believe the good outweigh the bad. People who abuse animals will do it in the home, to outdoor animals, to small animals from pet shops. I’ve known someone like that. He was a genuine sociopath and was arrested for assaulting a girl. He would have taken it a lot further. I’ve taken in strays. I’ve known a lot more people like me. They saved this dog from death, quite possibly. Be it weather, illness, starvation, or the ASPCA.

At the end, you can see that he'd rather be with the orginal couple. His facial expression show it that he wishes to be back with them. He also looked sorta abandoned as well. If you have a neighbor that close, I'd say go visit "Bishop" at least once every weekend or every other weekend. Even an hour or two would be enough for the dog, not 5 months!

My mother in law walked her LONG driveway every day. There was a “homeless” dog who wanted to but would have nothing to do with her. For weeks she took it food and brought it closer and closer to the house. Eventually the dog trusted her. Homeless lived with them for many happy years. Couldn’t believe the change once she finally just made it to the grass in the yard. Turned from a vicious scared animal to a happy dog.

That's kind of how I got my dog. I was sort of searching for a dog, and I just couldn't find the right dog whether it was the connection between the dog and me, myself and the adopters, or just circumstances I couldn't control. My coworker had a friend through a friend that was looking to rehome their dog at the time, and I said sure I could meet the dog, but the decision was going to come down to the dog. A couple days later, I met the dog, and after about 20 mins she went from anxious and scared dog like in the video, to sitting right in front of me soaking in all the pets I could give her. By the time I left that day, she made her decision very obvious as she pinned me against the couch, not allowing me to leave. 3 Days later, that dog became mine, and it's been over 4 years that I had her and she's more attached and loving.

To folks worried he may be someone's pet: The dog was skinny, starving, thirsty and living in bushland. That says he was either abused and ran away, or abandoned. Hence why he was hesistant to approach humans. I doubt you'd want to take him back to his previous owners! Plus he's likely to have been to the vet since then, so they likely would have scanned him already when vets ask about the dog's history. When a dog arrives at the vet, they can tell if a dog is a long term stray, especially if their ribs are obvious. So the vet would have asked about the dog's history and likely to have scanned it just in case he's a lost pet. PS. I was married to veterinarian and I use to volunteer in animal rescue

Or maybe he escaped, got scared and lost, ran far away. I remember a story of a family moving out of state... and the dog jumped out of the moving van when the family stopped. He got freaked out in a strange parking lot and took off. The dog eventually made his way back to the area he was from. Because someone found him and he had been chipped, they were all reunited. I hate when people just assume an animal is abandoned when maybe there is a heartbroken owner looking for them.

I highly doubt the rescuers in this case stole anyone's dog. If he was a lost pet, then this is a better outcome than if he were to have been killed in the storm

This dog doesn't look starved Lol it looks well fed and has a brand new collar.. it probably just escaped someones yard and got lost.. never assume! almost all the dogs that enter shelters are actually owned pets that have gotten themselves lost.. very few are actual stray animals that have never been in a home.. dogs get stolen for years and found later on sometimes in different states your statement of "animals that are fearful of people tend to have been abused" is not correct at all.. dogs can act completely different in a situation without their owners i have seen people assume all to often and it usually ends in heart break for the dog's original owner because they are quick to give them away or to a rescue where its nearly impossible to get them back.. just recently someone posted a young dog as found in the lost and found group.. people assumed he was abused and dumped because the dog was skinny and dirty and was fearful.. so a rescue took him and rehomed him.. a few days later the owner came forward and were pleading for their dog back but the dog had already been adopted out he had a loving home but they ripped him away because they assumed.. their vet came forward as well and confirmed the dog had never been abused or dumped off.. NEVER ASSUME!
