Jerry Freeman was my substitute teacher back in 1998. He told the entire class about his explorations and adventures, as well as his quest through area 51. id have to agree with you on that, they probably knew from day one of him asking for permission to keep track of the possibility he might try something one day. I think the outright agreement, had they given that permission would have caused them too much unwanted backlash of future requests from others, red tape, ect.. and knowing the mans intentions were truly genuine to his purpose, and the many years he tried to do it properly, it was the easiest way to solve this issue and keep the "no exceptions" stance un-marred. They may have even funneled him in the directions they wanted him to go depending on his starting point, to 50/50, to his backtrack out. And if they did know? id have to admire the one in charge for taking pity on, or admiration for Jerry and his quest. But it wouldn't matter one bit if they did or didn't know in the end. (though it shouldn't ever happen again) The balls the man had to do it regardless? Stunning adventure. Love of history/archeology. Bless you Jerry. Where his whole life up until then was under scrutiny. Everyone that we knew here in California for approximately 10 years were interviewed. How they knew us? Did they know of any illegal activity performed by my husband? Etc. Etc. Once he got the job. He had to wear a special badge that would identify him and also show any radioactive material that may have gotten on or close to him. His job was to stand over holes and drop wires 6 thousand feet into the ground. A few times they had to make sure that certain things were completely covered as he told me about the Russian satellites that would fly over at certain times and how they had the ability to zoom in so well that they could read the words on a match book cover. Those were just the things that he could tell me.The pay was super good for being in 1981-82, but I never liked him working there. Once his work there was done. A true love. Also in `97 (pre-social media too!) the DARPA wet-dreams were on a general down-trend (as for the nukes pretty sure they stopped all tests at NTS except non-critical tests around that time), pre `01 most of the US military was on a budgetary downward spiral limiting the sheer scale of groom in developmental activities (and therefore security). My Great Grandmother was born in a sod house that her parents had to stop and make a long their way, bcuz she was due any day. Thankfully, they was able to finish it and give birth to her inside it & out of the weather. They ended up just settling & working the land there. I was blessed by having her in my life until my teens. I used to love her stories, like only having dirt floors, no indoor anything like water, electricity, etc. , until the main house was built some years later. That was on my mother's side, on my father's side my Great Grandparents pretty much raised me, as I stayed with them on the farm more than not. My Gr8 grandfather built 3 amazing homes & I'm still trying to just rebuild one, ha. I have a ton of his old tools, & it still blows my mind, between his & other's craftsmanship back then using such rudimentary tools. Anyways, Now when I travel, I almost always, think of how hard it was back then & how tough people were. Especially compared to what we currently have going on with society & governments.

I'm 99% sure they knew he was there and just didn't do anything because they knew what his intention was. The reasons they didn't give him (or anyone else) permission is because 1) they didn't want to be responsible for him getting sick and 2) they don't want to admit how dangerous the area actually is. The area around Groom Lake is a cesspool and likely one of the most deadly places on earth.

This was in the 90s, it wasn't that long ago. "Several decades" makes it sound like this was the 60s or something. He had a cellphone and was sending text messages. The military had thermal imaging (especially some place like Area 51), non-cooled thermal cameras were already in civilian use. The main difference would be the proliferation of drones. It's a large area and trying to pick out a single person, who is at least attempting to stay somewhat hidden, in an area where let's face it, people are going to get a bit lazy: "like who the f*** is going to be wandering out here?" Nowadays obviously it's more difficult with drones and the like, as well as the societal shift. I'm sure now it's like "dude, people will eat Tide Pods, lick toilet seats, and film themselves trying to jump over cars all for views, we better keep a closer eye out than ever cause who knows what these morons might attempt."

This is such a crock of BS!!! I can prove he is lying and so can anyone else that has ever worked at the Nevada Test Site. I worked at the Nevada Test Site for 8 years (1981 T0 1989) and I have never personally seen the entrance to Area 51. First of all, the only way to get to Area 51 is by plane or vehicle once inside the main gates of the test site. The public cannot see area 51 from any public highway. Even the tunnels I worked in were an hours ride from the main entrance. We would leave Las Vegas at 6:00 in the morning in a company vehicle and arrive at the main entrance to the test site at approximately 7:05. We would then go through security get into a government owned vehicle and drive another hour to the tunnels where we would travel another mile under ground to our work alcove. Those who worked at Area 51 would board government aircraft and fly to Area 51. Yes, he made the story up. He may have gotten inside the test site,( which I highly doubt), but he never even saw Area 51, let alone got there. The government lies, yes. But if you were to venture onto the Test site you would be very subject to be shot. The photo you see is for Test Site officials to enter. All others would have to enter through security at the main entrance and no private vehicles were allowed to travel beyond that point. I get so sick of these lies about people who have ventured onto Area 51. Area 51 does exist but it is just one small section of the Nevada Test Site that spans 1,375 square miles and not visible from any public road. 1,375 SQUARE MILES, LET THAT SINK IN AND THIS IS JUST ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF FAKE NEWS. I had close friends that did work at Area 51 and they would not ever discuss any aspect of their duties or what they saw. They had a TOP SECRET CLEARANCE. My clearance was only secret.

I tend to believe they knew he was there. The only reason they didn't go after him, was the fact he attempted to notify higher ups of his archaelogical interests. The fact he did not walk up to any of the security areas, or look into any windows, etc, i believe saved him. Since he had no interest in their "black ops" work, they left him alone. I believe had he been lurking around any of their ultra security areas, he would have been eradicated.

I crewed on an off road race car in Nevada. So our personal trucks were designed for off road use. We made it to the gates for Area 51 several miles in from Hwy 375. We found ground sensors buried up to 50 feet from the road, and several cameras. Not long after our arrival a white Jeep Cherokee with heavily tinted windows showed up. We hadn't crossed the line but we decided to leave anyway. They definitely knew he was there.

Interesting story. I remember talking to him several years ago. I use to work at Nellis Air Force Base public affairs. He called our office trying to get permission to trace the route. It was an interesting and enlighting conversation. It was a history I knew little about. I think he had a legit reason to tranverse the area, but I doubt that the higher ups would approve his request. His request was most likely soured by the past and on-going request from lawyers, reporters and conspiracist to find out what goes on at Groom Lake. Alas, it should also be noted that the most interest in his trek ended up being his trip through the restricted Nevada Test Site and Nellis Test and Training Range and not in the actual wagon train. What a shame. Only showed credance as to why the Department of Defense and Department of Energy denied his request.

It's rare that you find someone who is this passionate and driven to pursue what makes them happy....I'm like that though, and I bet he and I would have been good friends. When I was 18, my parents tricked me into signing a commitment document to a girls' psychiatric rehab ranch in Texas, while I was already committed to a Georgia hospital (I struggled with mental health growing up). We flew to Houston and drove south...when I got there, I swore to my parents I'd get out. I ended up fleeing the property one night, walked all the way to the nearest town, and walked into a truck stop so I could find someone to hitchhike with. I ended up hitchhiking around the country with truckers, experiencing a 70s road life, and even got to drive the truck (not legally of course). I ended up getting paid under the table to drive while he slept. Sometimes you just have to pick the risky route and live the best life. Im glad he found that flame inside of him.

Was it blue ridge wilderness program in Georgia? Heartlight in Texas? I went to 3 other therapeutic boarding school in Utah, and two in North Carolina. Totally fine now, but at the time it was brutal. I’m happy for you that you are now well.

@@sarac1118 In Georgia it was Ridgeview Institute and in Texas it was an equine ranch called Fulshear. I've been committed 14 times to facilities and that Texas camp was the worst of all of them. They said we would be riding horses...all we did was shovel squat and work around the barn, and they had us shoved into three tiny cabins in the middle of a field. I felt like I was in the movie Holes.

I have more questions than answers. This was either and elaborate ruse or this man was a total legend. Either way it's a neat story.

Jerry Freeman is a true Indiana Jones.

Definitely is. Ironically though they knew he was there the entire time. They probably left that hose out there so he could get some water in him on purpose lol.

@@veevendetta3448 Jerry Freeman risked his life to find a part of our American history we had lost. It's a shame he made it to the area, but couldn't find what he was looking for. Maybe in time, the base will allow a team access to the spot to finish what Jerry Freeman started.
