Hi Ollly , looks very much like a field mouse ,we have had them in our old cottage occasionally over the years, and the only damage they did was nibble at the bags of sugar I keep for feeding my bees , they once got into my wife's flour bin ....little devils :) Rats on the other hand are a different matter, apart from the disease they carry can do a lot of damage, I had one up in my shed loft that gnawed through the power and lighting cables, it took a long while to find where it was gnawed through and when I did find it, the rat was laying beside the cable dead .... must have lit it up like a sparkler! Hi Bram - it's incredible how mice are able to get through all sorts of places. I used to work for a company where people would frequently leave the coffee and sugar tins open... Needless to say, they were often covered with mouse poo by the next morning! I fear rats as much as I fear snakes and reptiles! I almost believe there 'were' rats that I could here before catching this mouse as the mouse was able to navigate the ceiling without making a sound... Those other ones made audible footprints, which have thankfully ceased since I left the poison up there. All the best to you, too.
