It's the same theme at most retail stores; Goals being set impossibly high Pressure from management to do unethical things to reach said goals New policies being made by corporate people who have never stepped foot in their own brick and mortar stores Regional managers being paid the most for doing the least work Playing games with your hours and income

That's why I never worked retail. I did demos at Costco and that's the closest I got to retail for the most part I stuck to factory work. In a factory, you can cuss like a sailor or talk like a human being when shit hits the fan. Plus I mostly worked in my scrap clothes.

@@LeoMidori only retail job I had that was great was Macy's. I was part time, and was only supposed to be seasonal but they kept me on. I was a full time manager at KFC at the time, that was utter trash. Since I was seasonal/pt they never gave me a goal to meet. I'd generally work like 10am-3pm a few days a week in the men's store, generally the Home section. I'd be lucky if I checked out 10-15 people a a day if it wasn't a Saturday. Only other thing I had to do, was stock shelves if there was room, and tidy up. Easiest job ever. Sucked it paid minimum wage.

That’s just the reality of it though especially for those who have not completed higher forms of education such as a bachelors/masters. I am in the military, and I am accomplishing much more while being enlisted then I have ever done in any part time retail job I have ever worked for. I get to take college courses towards my degree all paid for, and outside of pursuing that I am receiving technical training that I am getting paid for, for the field of work I was hired for prior to enlistment. On top of that I receive an honorable discharge at the end of my contract which has significantly more value then having experience working years for most retail companies. I’m 30 now, and have been fucking around not doing much of anything since I was 19. So I completely understand how this guy feels.

@@r.h.6402 You're right. Without GameStop we may not be able to get used games for cheap unless we find another gamer selling that specific game we're looking for. GameStop is the only place, at least for me, where I can buy a pre-owned game and return it within 7 days. And I do that all the time so I can try before I buy. It's not my fault people sell games or consoles to GameStop and get shitty prices for it. That's just stupid. And one big thing for me is walking into the store and just looking around. Kind of how it was to walk into Blockbuster and see all the movies and games. There's nothing else like that. I don't want to see GameStop close.

GameStop is dying and I can’t think of any way to revive it, honestly i wouldn’t like to if I could. They’ve cheated so many just because those people couldn’t see a bigger picture and yeah you can argue all day if they fell for it they deserve it and all that bullshit, but save it. We all get complacent to some degree and some more than others, it’s what works at the time, hoping to move into the corporate world or whatever. All these idiots on here focusing on why he stayed eleven years, I’m sure he had his reasons that made sense at the time just like you have reasons you do the stupid shit you do. It’s not just about your simple minded perspectives

@@ibanezrg320fm It will close and soon. Just take a look at Gamestop stock. A high of $62.30 at the end of 2007. Now the stock is at $7.82. That's an 87% drop. Most people buy games digitally now or just play on PC where everything is digital. Their in-store merchandise can be bought a lot cheaper online too. Every year they get more and more pointless and are just trying to cover their overhead costs which just leads them to keep pushing their shady practices and overpriced garbage. The whole company is literally treading water in an industry that's leaving them in the dust. Gamestop will soon be the new Blockbuster and just shut down.

Gamestop is, by far, the worst job I’ve EVER worked. I worked there for 2 years (somehow) as a GA and never was promoted (2 times the work and responsibilities for a couple cent raise? No thanks). My coworkers were awesome people (hell, we still meet up from time to time today, and it’s been roughly 2 years since we all worked there), but the job itself was too damn stressful! It wasn’t worth the mental gymnastics you had to do every shift. Between having to make sure your reserves, power up, protection plan, and used sales were in the green along side having to make sure the store was in top shape, it was a mental nightmare. When I left, I couldn’t even work for over a year because it genuinely screwed me mentally. I now work as a delivery driver for one of the major pizza chains and I’ll tell you, I’d rather work there 40 hours a week busting my ass, than having to work one hour at GameStop. I know the odds of anyone reading this are slim, but it feels good to get this off my chest, cause man, I hate that place.

Vegito Charmara yes but they check the games I sell them for scratches to ascertain the value of the game which reflects the price the next guy will pay. I agree I should have looked after I bought it but GameStop also should have checked the game when they bought it and put a 14.99 price tag on a 3 year old game that comes out every year ya know, either way GameStop is a crapshoot. They will give you like 2 or 3 dollars for games that they’ll sell for about 10 bucks and their lazy employees won’t check them to see if they work or even if they have a lot of scratches before they sell them to someone.... GameStop is a really shady company, sadly there’s not much in the way of a competitor and the only other option is to pay more for a new game, but if you have a 360/ps3 that’s not an option for most games.

When i worked at my local walmart i actually loved it until one day a manager lied on me about giving her problems everytime she asks me for something. I LITERALLY ALWAYS DID WHAT I WAS TOLD. That day i told her i needed to finish my work because my department manager had been getting on to me so she made up some bs story to cover her ass. Once i pointed out on accident, yes it was actually on accident, i was so happy. I legit felt like i had escaped hell. I only told you 1 thing that happened at walmart too. They dont care about thier customers, will do anything to cover managers mistakes, Will ask you to do managers jobs as well as stuff that is absurd for you to be doing. If Wal-Mart's Managment was good then it wouldn't be so bad but unfortunately it is. Walmart sucks and i dont recommend anybody work there tbh

It's been my experience that there's two types of people that will say this or similar. The first one means it because they want you gone. You pissed them off or showed them up in some manner and they want you gone. The second one is saying that because they know something that you don't, and they like you enough to warn you without using direct words. They'll keep saying it hoping you WILL resign because there's a storm coming and they wanna shelter you from it.
@cynas4941
@cynas4941 5 жыл бұрын
@@BigDaddyJinx There's a 3rd reason, and it has a lot to do with what the author of the video discussed. They were essentially trying to cut costs to their senior employees by changing them from salaried to hourly. You can cut costs even further by getting senior personnel to resign and filling their position with a bright-eyed junior employee "promotion" and have their pay rate even lower than previous. Even more predatory, people who quit aren't entitled to severance - aggressively pushing them to resign rather than firing them is more money saved. Gamestop is unfortunately a sinking ship, and it has been in its death throes for a long time now. These sorts of practices and values are the unfortunate result of a company that's desperate to stay profitable in a market where they are no longer truly competitive.

They were all super nerdy and judged me for not knowing stat trek or Pokémon references. Only 2 of you will have the stuff to be a successful employee here, everyone here right now are your rivals. Today, your goal will be to sell me this pen. The 2 that sell it to me the best will be considered being hired, the rest will be let go." I got up along with around 5 others and walked out. While we were walking out, the manager said to the others "Congratulations, you all lost 6 rivals, well, don't celebrate too soon, they were too pathetic to work here anyway." I called the district manager, and like this guy said, they are scum as well, so obviously they didn't care how the managers did their hiring as long as it wasn't illegal.

One day, scheduling got mixed up and I was scheduled on one of my off days and I didn't notice in time to alert the managers. When I showed up for the shift after that one, I got pulled into the office and was interrogated on why I was a no show. During that shift I missed, however, no manager called or texted me, not only to see if I was coming in but if I was okay, given a COMPLETELY clean attendance record. I was seriously concerned that if anything happened to me, my work wouldn't contact family to alert them and instead fire me. I quit the next week.

My first job was GameStop and one was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. And the other one was the worst. The manager was literally a x marine and ran the store like it was the army. I was forced to stay longer hours to do mundane things like alphabetize games, and I ended up getting fired because my manager asked me to stay after work to talk to me and that night his friend came in and he was talking to him but he still wanted me to stay so he could talk to me, and a hour and a half later of sitting there waiting for these two to stop talking, I finally walked over there and was like “excuse me I gotta go did you need to talk to me about something” and he got so mad about interrupting them and yea...that was the real reason I got fired.

Flexible hours that were great for college, but the overbearing management and negative reinforcement turned a chill job into more stress than it was worth. One company's owner threatened people so much that he was left 2 employees when he needed 34. He went to a temp agency for employees, then started threatening them in turn they refused to work there and the agency refused to send anymore people. This caused his company to go out of business. You probably stuck around for 11 years because it's NATURAL for us to fall into that. Even when the job doesn't feel secure, you're THERE, you like the people, and you're getting a paycheck. It takes a lot to compel someone to just walk away from that. So don't beat yourself up for it, dude. Folks who have never worked at GameStop, he's right on the money about all of it. I started in 2008, and like this dude, became an ASM in 2010 and a SM in 2012. I didn't last 'til 2018, though...I was out in 2015. Why? Well, anyone who didn't "play ball" (shady sales tactics, talking back to DMs about ideas, etc) was sent to a low volume store in January of 2015 in my district. We had a HUGE staff full of very experienced (and highly paid, relative to newbies) staff in the lowest volume store in the district, which made zero sense until you put 2 and 2 together to see that the plan was to bypass waiting for a REASON to terminate us and simply cattle us all in a store they planned to close...which they did the following May. Severance for all. Like this guy said, I met some of the best friends I'll ever have there, and the customers were freaking amazing most of the time, but being told to take advantage of them, then being punished by offering honest pushback about that idea...it was miserable. I don't know anyone from my story who isn't better off now than they were when we were together at GameStop.

To be fair, Blockbuster didn't go out of business for ripping people off, they went out of business due to the nature of renting movies. I was a teenager and advent gamer during the rise of redbox. We lived 0.5 miles from McDonalds' redbox, meanwhile, Blockbuster was 6 miles away. See where I'm going? My dad was also an advent pirater of movies and found it easier to pirate the redbox movies bc Blockbuster had these ridiculous prevention measures on their discs. Soon after the expensive unlimited movie and game membership at Blockbuster was cancelled. I really do miss that place.
