I swear, Gamestop either fires or forces all the good people to quit. I remember there was this girl at my local Gamestop who was really cool and would look out for me. I was very OCD about game cases, if I bought a used game and they handed me one of those broken scratched up cases I would ask for another case. This girl would actually take the good cases and put them aside for me, and when I came in the store she'd be like "Oh I got a better case for that game you bought the other day". Then I went in one day and she was gone, she got fired for some reason. There was a hippie chick that knew everything about every game and turned me on to some classics; she got fired too. It kind of sucks, I used to like sticking around the store after a purchase to talk about games with these people but now it's nothing like that.

+lilturk726 yup i know exactly what you mean they used to have people that actually knew things about games that were cool and would discuss games but now its just business men pushing stuff literally went into one in nevada and the dude was wearing a SUIT. That is not going to be a person a gamer identifies with and feels comfortable talking to...
@lilturk7268 жыл бұрын
Gaz Blackheart Yep, it's all about the pre-orders and random third party peripherals they can sell you. They used to try and sell you stuff before, but it wasn't as scummy, it was more like "hey, that game you're buying is 2-players, do you need another controller?" now it's like "hey, wanna pre-order? How about a Rewards Card?'

I held it together like a rock, thought I was going to make it to the very end. Was real proud of myself because holding it together is an assumed non option. Made it to about 20 minutes in without a legitimate rofl or even a significant Lol, right up until Chris Benoit rose from the grave to Crippler Crossface someones testicles... Had to pause it for a lil bit after that while I unsuccessfully and ungracefully pulled myself together.

I had a bet with the other guys on how many girls I could kiss, so I wore a mistletoe around Christmas. I got in the 50's, then started dating one of the kissees and stopped. I kissed old women, lesbians....you name it. Just not dudes. Though one now is trying to become a dude....blegh.LOL

Great stories! I use to work for Game Crazy which was part of Hollywood Video. I loved it but some of the customers sucked. we had a "George" that every day would bring in a stack of budget Wii games still sealed that he obviously stole from Target. Also had lots of problems with stolen credit cards.

Back in the early 2000s we had an EB-Games in town. It's been long re-branded to Gamestop by this point, but man it was the place to be when I was a kid. I was basically in there everyday. The staff was awesome, and all the good customers knew them on a first name basis and vice versa. My Dad who is a realtor in town even helped the manager buy a condo that's how well we knew them. Then overnight they brought in a new manager and everything changed... Thanks for sharing your stories, made me laugh and reminded me of some good memories, like the strategy guides!

I've had mostly bad experiences every time I've went to a GameStop. The most recent was when I went to buy The Last of Us on my PlayStation 4. I went in just wanting a new copy of the game. They guy behind the counter tried selling me a used copy and I politely said, "no thank you, I want a new copy". He rang me up for the new copy and then asked, "Would you like the strategy guide for the game?" I said, "no I'm good" and he replied, "psst...see you tomorrow". If I get a reply to this comment I will gladly tell you other experiences I've had at the GameStop

+Specter087 My...fucking...God...THE HUMANITY!!! How many hours of counseling have you had since your traumatic experience? I went to McDonalds the other day and they asked me if I wanted Frys with my burger...I was like "no...I just WANT THE BURGER!!!!!!" It was so humiliating....

+Intellektual BlackMan I got mocked at Arby's once for just wanting the sandwich (no meal). But.... but I didn't have the extra dollar I would need for the meal! I expect those assholes who wanted me to get the deal (one dollar for curly fries and a drink) to have known I didn't have enough cash on me. HOW DARE THEY DO THEIR JOBS AND TRY TO HELP ME OUT!
@intellektualblackman57278 жыл бұрын
ApeWild Yeah, I hate people who have never had to work with the public too. Fuck them and their kids.
@apewild10908 жыл бұрын
So many consumers nowadays seem so fucking entitled. I'm sorry the employees can't read your mind. They are just trying to do their jobs, which is most likely to up-sale. Or better yet, they may be trying to save you some money! When I worked at a movie theater a few years back I actively tried to get people to buy the combos because I knew it was cheaper for more stuff. Two medium drinks with a large popcorn cost around $3 more than just making the two drinks larges. Some people don't mind the used games so being offered a cheaper option is nice for them. Strategy guides are somewhere around 20% off if you buy them with the game so if you'd want it it's the better deal. It's not always just the business side - though, as I've said, usually the employees have to up-sale if they want to keep their jobs.
@Specter0878 жыл бұрын
+Intellektual BlackMan yes this clearly was a story about how humiliated I was or how I felt entitled at a GameStop. Nicely done reading into this.

I'm a bit confused. You said Gamestop doesn't care about their employees, but hearing what you said about this guy I would have fired him too. When they brought him that alcohol, he could have lead them outside the store and asked them to give it to him later or he could have stored it in his car. You do NOT ever store your alcohol in your place of work, ever. Gamestop does not own a liquor license. Dude deserved it. Not to mention he slept at the store and slept with his girlfriend in the bathroom, came to work high and drunk. Dude deserved this 10x over. Otherwise yes, I dislike Gamestop and don't ever really go there unless I really have to. A lot of things said about them are genuinely bad.
@apewild10908 жыл бұрын
+cooler1339 "You do NOT ever store your alcohol in your place of work, ever." Not always true. In a Gamestop, no, you shouldn't store your alcohol. However, if you work in a liquor store (from my experience) it's fine to store your drinks if you're closing, just be sure to ask management first.
@cooler13398 жыл бұрын
Liquor stores and a few others might be an exception, but I'd say nearly all places of work wouldn't allow it.

You would get fired from the majority of white collar jobs for even having a bottle, opened, empty, full, brand new, it doesn't matter - in the office at all. Very few people enjoy the immunity to blatantly bring alcohol to work, whether they actually drink it or not. Those are people in high management positions in insurance or sales or finance etc.

My brother, who's into video games in a big way, worked as a manager at a GameStop, especially during the time where working for the company was actually fun. Then, things changed for the worst. According to my brother, his experience at GameStop when things turned to crap wound up turning him off of video games because the retail business, specifically how the company wound up treating their employees, made it very much like a sausage grinder. It took years for my brother to rekindle his passion for video games again after that experience.

Ha! I caught people doing that swap-out trick when I worked at Hollywood Video. I also happened to have worked with the couple at a restaurant and knew what they were doing, but the manager didn't want to bother, since they were heavy tweakers and figured they would cause a scene. So many strange things happen when you work with the public. Great stories, man. Working retail/in food is such a strong motivation to focus on getting your shit together.

I worked at Babbage's. This was when PC games took up most of the store and the consoles had small spaces at the back of the store. They used to let us open computer games and bring them home to play so we could tell customers what the games were like. Thing is, after we brought the game back, they would have us shrink wrap the games and put them back on the shelf as new. Back then some of the games had a copy protection format that knew when the game was installed once, and would not install again after the initial install, or would only allow install for a certain number of times. The thing that drove me nuts is Babbage's would price new "hot" games at $79.99 in the mall, but you could drive across the road to Kmart and buy the same game for $50. I never understood why people would still buy the stuff in our store. I think the game publishers must have got wind and cracked some heads because Babbage's didn't price like that for too terribly long.

Yeah. I had one at my go-to store that got fired for no apparent reason. They wouldn't care if I was canceling pre-orders, trying to change a pre-order, etc. Now the new workers act like I'm the scum of the earth just because I want to change a pre-order to a digital version.

I know I'm late to this video. I've been on a kick of watching former employees rant about GameStop. Yours was probably the most entertaining. I lost my shit about the twins and wrestling guy. I'd love to see more of these.

just found the channel and subbed, great story! I have a GameStop story and I'll try to make it brief. Yea I'll start off by saying GameStop is not the place I thought it was. When I was about 19 I was living with my band in this big house we rented. We needed it because of all the equipment. And plus it's nice to have tons of space because there was parties and drinking EVERY night. It was ridiculous lol. anyway, my friend J who was the drummer at the time needed a new job, and I had been looking. We both knew our shit about video games and played them all our lives, so we saw a new GameStop store was opening right down the street from us, and they were holding a job fair. So we went, applied, and did an on-the-spot interview. Well, I aced the interview. I proved I knew all that needed to be known about games.. it was/is my passion. Well it turns out they didn't hire me, they hire my friend J, and this other friend of ours we grew up with who's name was also J... I'll call him Jo though for now. Anyway, I was pissed. I was a stupid kid who looked up to gamestop and wanted to even run my own store. I really cared about games, and making sure people got the best experience. Well, my friends went and I asked them what it was like. They said they haven't done much yet because they're still unloading trucks to set up the new store. Ok Ill go ahead and fast forward. Two weeks later they came to the house after a shift and they got fired. They got fired literally at the end of their shift after the store was finished being set up. So basically gamestop hired them just for the purpose of setting up the store without even telling them. Maybe they knew hardly anyone would just accept two weeks of work. I lost all my respect for that place after thst day. Now, I don't look st the employees as the company. I look at the employees the same as any establishment I go into... i look at them as an individual. So this is not raggin on the employees overall. Anyway, that's my story... it is boring compared to yours, but still couldn't believe it at the time. Thanks for the video, and I'm on my way to watch part 2 :)
