In this Video Hardus gets invited by Petri for a trip to Mana Pools & Lake Kariba, Zimbabwe with a couple of mates. They travel from Pretoria through Botswana and then Zimbabwe to finally get to the north where these two amazing places are situated. They spend 7 nights at Gwaya Camp in Mana Pools and then move to Chitake Springs Campsite which is as rugged as it comes in the middle of the bush with Lions and Elephants surrounding them. In this video they show you the road to Mana Pools and some interesting sleep over spots as well as to where you must check in for Mana Pools. They then travel west to the awesome Lake Kariba where they spend 3 nights on a houseboat on the Lake and catch some Tigerfish.
Enjoy!!

Loved every minute of this....so many highlights throughout but the best part was that you had nothing negative to say. What a special part of a special country. Chitake, the wild camp you stayed at, is a Batonka word used to describe a "stop-over" that these original inhabitants would aim for when travelling / trading between the people north of the Zambezi, and the people who lived up and over the escarpment to the south. Chitake is the only place in the region that has water (from the spring), throughout the year and can be clearly seen from the top of the escarpment for nine months of the year because of all the greenery. Essentially it was a beacon for these people when they were returning to their homes on the Zambezi. The Batonka people were the first to successfully trade across the regions north and south of the Zambezi between what is now Zambia and Zimbabwe.

If you arrive at the marongora permit office too late in the day to gain entry into mana pools, there is a decent campsite behind the office. They let us camp there after we arrived when it was dark. It is a decent campsite with clean toilets and showers, but you have to bring your own tents as there are no rooms.

Great video guys - I used to go down to Mana Pools sixty one (61) years ago (early sixties) with my Dad on an annual shooting trip to make biltong for three families for the whole year. My Dad and the two Ooms from the other two families would also get a elephant, each which would pay for the concession and two weeks on camp. There were very few roads and we had lions and hyena in the camp every night as there was a lot of meat and blood form making biltong - brought back memories but I did not remember any of the places you showed on your video. One thing we used to do was shoot fish in the pools with shotguns - the pools were drying up and we would have fried bream almost every night together with impala and buffalo. Well done - many memories brought back to me - Baaie Danke.

We didn't get to Mana Pools, but did the Okavango Delta, then flew to Kasane, did Chobe, crossed over Kazangula into Zambia, did Vic falls from the Livingstone side, then across into Zim up to Binga where we boarded the Catalina, a 100' catamaran and spent 5 days exploring Kariba, got some great Tiger fishing in and then back to Livingstone. Great trip, that was 10 years ago now, but what an experience. Bucket list item for sure
