We’ll done Matt. You’re probably used to people saying that you’re a big unit to take around a 26 mile course but it’s worth repeating in my opinion. Hard enough for a relative shrimp like me let alone you. Congrats! 👏👏👏

Loved watching this. Massive congratulations, Matt. 🎉🎉🎉🎉 Your attitude & commitment was absolutely spot on. Sub 3 hour on negative splits was always an extremely tough ask but if you don’t aim high you’ll never know how far you can go. The ‘start-slower-finish strong’ tactic was brilliant - perfect way to do it. Manchester is a fast course but there are a couple of sneaky hills around mile 16. Having the peace of mind to walk that hill rather than blow the energy was a stroke of genius. So happy for you. 3:08 is an incredible time.

Well done Matt! Very happy for you mate. Your strategy was very well planned and nearly worked for you on the day but a marathon is not going to do anyone any favors... Them hills were a massive test. The atmosphere, the crowd and the support was unreal!! Absolute stuff of legends! You'll definitely smash your sub3 on your next one💪🏼💪🏼. Was good to have a chat with you during the race👍🏼. All the best for the future. Keep positive and keep strong.💪🏼💪🏼

Great stuff Matt, this series has been a great watch and glad you’re happy with the result! I also ran and got a big PB too, only from advice from KZbin channels like this one! Much appreciated!

@@MattRuns I got 3:25:28 after aiming for a 3h30 so really happy with the result! There was a cheeky hill in Altrincham, it’s a good job the centre was line with supporters, it was incredible and really got me through! Not quite sure how, but I had enough in the tank over the last 10k to push for a faster time?! Look forward to seeing you on the next one, London or Manchester for me too! Let’s goooo 🙌🏼 What are your thoughts on carb loading? Online articles seem suggest to eat massive amounts pre-race.. I weigh ~180pounds and found it hard to eat the suggested 600+ grams of carbs? Thanks again for the great videos, it’s nice to hear from an authentic Mancunian!

Snap on the 3:08 finish time buddy. Not a sub 3 but delighted as I also ran smart and didn't fall apart in the last 10k like my previous one, where I chased a time beyond my fitness. My last 5k was the fastest. Great to have a chat with you on the day and congratulations on your time. Enjoy it, recover and I look forward to seeing you get that 2 something at some point in the future. 💪

Good job Mate! Negative splits are hard unless you been running for a long time in a marathon. Last 10k is where the pain in your legs and cramping starts along with dehydration.

So true mate.. i had the cramps, sort of.. if i tried injecting any speed it was a problem.. but huge positive in that im getting much better at it lol

Great time! Very very impressed with your 03:08:00 mega time! You’ll be able to hit under 3. If that was Berlin you may well have done it as it’s flat as a pancake. Your conditioning was second to none. I predict your next time to be around 02:58:00 with more of the same progressive training and high mileage. I also ran on sunday and smashed my goal. I was aiming sub 4 and hit a 03:51:17 which I was chuffed with. There were so many inclines to contend with like you said, which caught me out too. The last mile was horrendous as I went a little too hard in the first 15 Mile and got a horrific stitch due to eating the jelly babies which are handed out. I never ate them in training. Have you ever considered open water swimming events? That’s one hell of a way to build fitness and strength which complements running. Injury proof training too. I do it down on Salford Quays at the water sports centre

Thanks Olly.. i have more confidence over that distance now.. I'd really love to get into something like that but im not to much of a swimmer mate.. but it's something I've always wanted to do regarding completing an iron-man or half ironman 👍🏻👍🏻
