As for signing duds, it's a consequence of a poor transfer strategy, you can't blame managers for wanting to work with players they know, he doesn't arrange the fees. That said, the style of play must improve and become more consistent. That needs to be integrated into the squad though.

He did not negotiate the price of Antony, he asked for the player all the way back in June when they could have signed him for about £25-30 mio. Didn't lose a game to any of the big six at home and the only problem was the away form against the big 6. Allow a humble United fan to explain why this is the best decision (not only a good one). This man performed a Miracle last season while inheriting the worst squad we had in history. Notice that there are still some players that are still playing because of the utter incompetence of the hierarchy pre INEOS. Check the stats, we are the worst club at selling players and negotiating transfer fees and wages. 10 years of mismanagement and splashing the cash on bad signings not only made FFP catch up with us, but is also the reason for the waterfalls. The Glaziers never put a pound in and always took money out. Nevermind the controversial way they took over, which is the reason why we are in debt. The players and dead wood are the reason why Olé and Mourinho were sacked. If we get any other manager in, even if it is Pep or Klopp. The new manager might favour players we consider as dead wood, thus continuing the never ending cycle. Also players we have just can't keep up with the play style of Ten Hag, hence why the injury crisis, which resulted in the dead wood playing and that is why we suffered. This man needs time just like Sir Alex before him or Arteta now. I'd seriously take another 8th place finish if it means we get rid of all the dead wood and only get players both he and INEOS think are suitable for the future. Oh and another plus: this man values the DNA of United by promoting youth.

@@NeilLewis77 you are then not taking into account the importance of Martinez and having a high defensive line. We were beatable this season due to having most of our first choice backline out. Including Martinez and Shaw. Shaw himself would not have plugged the whole in midfield, but with Martinez they would have better results in the games you mentioned. You underestimate his importance and ability to play out from the back. Evidence can be found in how we played against City in the FA cup final. Shaw wasn't there, but Dalot did a great job and that's why he is the deserving player of the season. The hole in midfield was due to us having slow center backs who could not play a high line and thus their positioning was off, creating that gap. Casimiro falling off contributed to that of course which I mourn because I love that player. Compare that to last season when Varane, Shaw and Martinez were available for the majority of the games and you would understand why we were better, and that's why the double pivot of midfielders have a greater freedom of moving. Anyways, respect to your analogy as a Liverpool fan.

They grabbed two quick goals on the counter and then held on. United played well. They made city look shit. Credit where it's due. But united didn't look like the better team. Next season will be just more of the same. That's my guess anyway and I've guessed right in uniteds previous two managers. With all due respect. It's nice being able to talk football with rivals and it not decend into mud slinging.

The first one we played better, we didn't just counter, that was the second half. The first goal was a fluke and I will be the first to admit it, the second one was an okay goal. It wasn't just a grab, the intensity and play style forced mistakes. In the first half we were the better team, I think you can admit that. Next season will all depend on recruitment and most importantly clearing out, that is what we need to do. The mentality our players have is so shit, that is why your club is a winning club, Klopp inserted that winning mentality in them and got rid of players who weren't suiting his play style. Ten Hag can do this, you might be right about having a bad start and letting him go, but then that will be another restart, another manager coming in with his philosophy and wanting his players, another broken squad because we have players by so many previous managers. That's why I said I would take another 8th league finish, because I believe in this project. If INEOS fire Ten Hag by November they prove they are no better than the Glaziers. Patience in football is everything now, and no one of the top clubs has it.

You cannot compare them like that. Pre-Ferguson, Man United were a relatively successful English team. By the time he retired, Man United were (one of) the biggest clubs in the world. It's probably also true that ETH is working with more pressure and a worse environment, but that doesn't make the comparison valid.

Also SAF never had to deal with multi-club owning oil money conglomerate like City Football Group Limited. Also when Man Utd had signed CR7 for the 2nd time, the owners did not tell Ole until after the signing was done. That is the kind of bullshit all managers after SAF have had to deal with. McKenna grew up as a Man U supporter and was assistant manager at United to both Mourinho and Solskjaer. He probably will end up at Man U, but there were murmurs when he left about the players there finding him too school teachery (though Ipswich players rave about him) and those players are probably still there. If he does well the next season or two getting a bit of Prem experience, it gives him weight in the dressing room once he moves. Right job, right face, but a year or two too soon.

United fan here. I saw all the reports on Friday ahead of the final, and said to friends, they either fire him on Monday after the final (give him the van Gaal) or they don't fire him at all. When Monday, then Tuesday rolled around, I knew he was staying. I don't hate the decision to keep him on, but as you say, if November comes around and United haven't been playing well and are 7/8/9 points off the top four. Then they are doing a more expensive sacking than if they'd done it on the Monday after the cup final.

Tends to happen when you don’t have a fit left back at the club all season. He lost all fit centre backs halfway through and his only fit striker for a couple of months. Don’t look at how he did in isolation but if any other manager would’ve done significantly better. There’s not much in it. Uniteds last few months of the season were better than genius free flowing Ange and both got into Europa league all said and done. Trust the process Arsenal have dust gathering in their trophy cabinet over the last few years despite having their best ever season. UCL was a shambles but I’ve never seen a player single-handedly derail a campaign as much as Onana did this season.

Our expected goal difference was -14. We had loads of injuries yes, which is why if we were 7/8th in expected points I would have been okay with that and said give him another season. We conceded 2 XG per game in 2024, how is that a reason to back the manager. However, as I said before, the worst thing is, there is a good manager in there, but he let his ego get the better of him. You don't play well against Juve and Madrid in 2 legs in the champions league at Ajax and then suddenly loose your managerial ability. He had an idea in pre season to press like and mad man and become the most transitional team in the league, but then when it didn't work for 7 months he refused to change it. Game 1 against wolves should have been enough to make any sane manager admit they were wrong but he just kept leaving the biggest gap in our midfield from day one till the end of the season. If u have injuries adapt to the players, don't use injuries as an excuse for loosing, try and win.

so, so much has to improve next year if he wants to stay long term. no more 17 shots against per game, no more being 15th on xPts, no more disgustingly open midfields, no more consistently misusing players. has to make a deep Europa run, make top 4 and make us play like a top 4 team with eventual title aspirations. main reason for new contract is the he must have agreed new terms with much less power (e.g. over transfers) in order to fit under the reshuffling structure. worse comes to worse, we have to pull the trigger after 6 months, but by that point the squad is (hopefully) in a better place and more of the big hires behind the scenes are back from gardening leave. feels like we're planning less for 24/25 and more for 25 onwards if so, so making Ten Hag the obvious fall guy if all goes wrong could end up being a great power play
