I can’t live without my sharp stabby tool as I call it, is a clay sculpting tool. I bought it in my local craft shop. Amazon do sell them as part of a clay sculpting set but not individually.
All my other supplies are from Amazon including my large squizzors. They are listed as aquarium precision pinch action scissors.
I use H2O gone FSL water soluble stabilizer or Brothread wash away, cut away or invisible mesh stabilizer for my stitch outs.

I use Kingstar metallic thread and don't have to change anything on my machine. I had terrible difficulty with another brand but Kingstar I use just like my normal thread.

Much depends on your machine but for many people they do have to change the settings a little.

@@KaysCutz Yes, it does depend on the machine but all users of Kingstar I have 'spoken' to haven't had to change anything. It is good to show how for beginners to machine embroidery. I have the same machine as you were using though I think I would slow the machine down while sewing the edge with the tassel bulk there. I did add a bit more to my message and my kitten jumped on the keyboard and did all sorts of weird things on the screen and the message wasn't saved!! I had said: Thanks for this tutorial on this lovely little bag. I can see myself making three of them for my grandaughters and one for myself of course! Thanks again.

Hello Kay, I was wondering if you could tell me when to add batting for the back. I am using fabric for the mandala bag so feel that I would like to add batting to the back as well. Thank you for such great information in these videos.

Hi Karen you would add it at the same time as your backing fabric as if they were one. So your backing fabric goes face down on the front of your hoop and your batting goes on top of it. I would raise the machine foot too in your settings as as it will be quite thick, this will prevent your foot from catching up in the batting. I hope this helps you. Happy stitching

My zipper is called a lace zipper, it is usually placed on top of the fabric rather than underneath but I ran out of standard zips so used it underneath instead. I get them in bulk on Amazon.

Kay this is really pretty. I am thinking about my granddaughter -- she will be 14 in September, and I am thinking this is something a 14-year-old girl would probably like. :) What kind of vinyl should I look for? I think you get yours from the U.K. But, I am in the U.S. I don't know if just any vinyl would do, as I think there are different weights, etc. Thanks for any help!

Hi Virginia it would be a lovely bag for a teenager, look for bag vinyl or marine vinyl. Dont buy the really thin stuff that looks the same back and front as it will tear. The stuff I use has a fine backing on it. You can always ask the question on my post in KK group, I am sure that plenty of people in the US will tell you what they use and where they get it.

Hi Maria I believe so as it would be the same size. It will say what file to use in the instructions at the top of each hooping.

This video is 34.48 minutes so I would allow at least an hour plus to make this bag! Time to choose fabric, choose thread and lining and cutting all to shape will take additional time. The time you spend on this lovely bag will be worth every minute.

I would say Maggie's time estimation is about right. Much depends on the speed you stitch at, how fast you work, if you are using metallic thread as you need to stitch that on the slowest speed. It doesn't take long.

Kay you mentioned you use a heat and bond on the back of the vinyl is that the brand name I thought heat and bond was used for appliques.

I used Heat n Bond fusible fleece to give a slightly padded feel to the vinyl. It is used for many things bags, appliques all sorts. It doesn't add too much bulk like batting would and makes the bag feel slightly more luxurious than using nothing. You dont have to use it, it is personal choice. You could make a strap using vinyl or fabric if you wanted to, or add hardware loops and D rings rather than cord and then buy or recyle a strap. It depends on the look you want for your bag.

I am having trouble with the zipper on step 11. Embroidery foot hits the zipper head breaks needle. What size is the zip???

Make sure your zipper head is right out of the way of the stitch line and foot, you cut the excess off afterwards. The instructions tell you that you need a zip 2" longer than the bag width. This is so that the zip head is out of the way of the stitch line.

For vinyl I normally use a 75/11 no need to change it for vinyl however I did change it for the metallic thread that I used, to a 90/14 so that the thread has more room to pass through the eye of the needle.

Hi I see your largest is in an 8x10 hoop. I have a 6x10 hoop is this something I can adjust to my largest hoop. If not I'd be able to do the 2 smaller sizes but thought I'd ask ❤

Hi Tanya no don’t adjust anything, just use the correct size files that will fit your 6x10 hoop and your stitch out will turn out great.

When do u put the batting on the back side.

Hi Kathy, you can add it on top of the back lining fabric so place the lining fabric face down on top of the front so that the right sides are together and then your batting on top. I didnt add it to mine as the back isnt quilted and it would make it very thick and harder to turn I dont fond that it needs any on the back with vinyl. I hope this helps you.

What is the strap called can you buy in bulk Im in the usa

Its 8 or 10 mm twisted chord. You buy it by the metre. Maybe Joannes or Michaela or somewhere like that. I am not in the US so I am not really much help there.

I am really confused. This seems to have a major "jump", in the making of the front panel. It goes from adding (or not adding) the batting, to where the back is being attached over the bag flap and handles etc.

@@lynngalvan not if you don't have it too hot do a test piece first starting cool and turning up the heat until it sticks then if all is good do it on your bag vinyl. My upholstery vinyl is pretty heat tolerent.
