One subtle but wonderful detail I only caught on a second viewing: when the monster attacks the skiff it's Axe Woves and Paz Vizla that each grab an arm of IG-12 and fly Grogu to safety. Also, while I definitely get Jabba's sail barge vibes from the skiff, it - and the fact that there are three Mandalorian survivors that greet the scouting party - also reminds me a lot of Rex, Wolf, and Gregor living alone on the minecrawler in Rebels.

It was pretty obvious that the Dark Troopers were using a diluted version of beskar armor. Or else the blaster shots wouldn't have killed them. And when the Dark Troopers ran, I was thinking "It is a trap". Visually I give this episode a 9 out of 10. But story wise it barely rates a 4 in my book. And the Imperial Guard was asked for other than the desire to have this last stand. Hell, I'm not even sure why they wanted to capture Mando. And this is only two factions of many. If Bo wanted all the Mandalorians, Fett would have been here to. She just got a single group together to forge a claim on Mandalore with the hopes that other would show up once word got out that the planet was being resettled.

I think with all the Exodus symbolism this season, the title “The Spies” refers to the spies that Moses sent into Canaan to search out the land. This could mean that there are both “good” and “bad” spies in the company. Also, the spies in Exodus saw enemies that they claimed made them look like grasshoppers. They also reported that the land was one that “eateth up the inhabitants thereof.” Sounds like Mandalor to me.

I haven’t seen anyone make this theory about the spies: - Gideon essentially removed himself from following Thrawn during the holomeeting. - Gideon requested three red-guards from Thrawn’s right hand men. - What if the three red-guards are spies relaying info to Thrawn? - Gideon’s lack of faith or betrayal by pushing his own personal power agenda may insult or threaten Thrawn’s plan. The title may also have a double reference to Gideon’s spy on Coruscaunt, aka Kane.

I get what you're saying, but I don't think all of the time in the previous episodes was time well-spent. For instance, we didn't need so much Elia Kane in episode 3. They could've established she was a spy in 3 minutes rather than taking up almost an entire episode with that stuff.

@@BrianHartman well, they have to world build this stuff. If they ended it in three minutes, people would complain that it should have been quicker. Yeah, people complain about Book of Boba Fett being a waste and taking two episodes there instead of here. I disagree. They had to set up Grogu to tame the mythosaur. You know it’s coming. Maybe for me I like this type of direction. They have to world build somehow, and to see how the New Republic wasn’t as “hopeful” is much more realistic. It’s been about ten years. It’s classic meet the new boss, same as the old boss bit. It was great seeing how the empire’s fall was viewed from the outer rim. Now it’s cool seeing what Coruscant was like after. I loved this episode. It felt like the reason why I fell in love with Star Wars in the first place. I love that they have been working on Grogu's character so simply, but it makes sense. He coos and whines more. Now he has IG-12 to help him get around. I would love to see it get some of it's own beskar. He is becoming quite the foundling. And I loved the work that they did to bring the clans together. Bo talking about what she did to try and save her people, the Owls explaining to the others what it was like to live on Mandalore. It was great. I am hoping for an epic Mythosaur reveal next week.

So, we’ve been saying all season long that there are obvious Old Testament overtones to this season. When Din tells Bo Katan that ‘her song has not yet been written’ it (imo) confirmed that those two are basically re-enacting the song of Deborah from the Old Testament’s book of judges (and fwiw, the song of Deborah was a song of victory…)

it feels like the armorer may have made a deal with Gideon to protect her faction. Now Bo's honest speech about how SHE made a deal with him and he betrayed her and killed her people anyway will payoff with the armorer flipping the deal on Gideon before he flips it on her.
@askmeaboutsugma Жыл бұрын
I think she's a red herring. So far the Armorer has very much so been a shaman to the Mandalorians, even accepting opposing clans and their viewpoints for the sake of solidarity. Meanwhile, Axe is over here doing whatever he can for money. He said in this episode he was on Mandalore during the Purge. How did he escape? The survivors said the Empire blasted any ship trying to leave the surface. So how did Axe get off if not because he's Gideon's informant? I think he may even be the one who rescued Gideon.
@mikedamico8902 Жыл бұрын
The title of the episode was The Spies. Plural. Theory: The Armorer is the other spy along side Kane. I believe she told Gideon where the Mandalorians would be, hence how they were able to surprise attack them. Then she conveniently had a way out of the attack before it happened bringing the injured back, looking good in the process. Her helmet has horns, and so does Gideons. Thoughts?

I think the Mandalorian survivors they found on the surface are the spies, and that The Armorer saw something when she was watching the ones being treated that clued her in that they had been tortured/brainwashed (mind flayer scars?). My guess is that when they reach the flagship she'll have a group ready to take the survivors into custody and she'll have the fleet ready and waiting for Gideon's attack.

But why though? I think you’re right but why?
@Memento_Mori Жыл бұрын
It's probably Axe if any of the Mandalorians are spies, he was operating freely as a freelancer so he had more access to information valuable to Gideon. Also the only two fights in the episode are Paz v. Axe and Paz v. Gideon. I assume it's foreshadowing that he was fighting the same group both times if Axe is a spy in the first place. The Armourer could end up being the one that forged the Beskar for Gideon just because that's her thing, but if she works for the Empire, she wouldn't be trying to unite scattered Mandalorians if the Empire is at odds with them.

I think Grogu learned from Bo Katan. He's been listening to her repeating the fact that the Mandalorians need to stop fighting each other. He totally gives Bo the nod after Din says Grogu did not learn the "stop fighting" from him. Grogu has had so many teachers, at the Jedi temple, Din, Luke, Bo and the Armorer. More Biblical connections, @ScreenCrush: 24:40 The Spies could be a reference to the 12 spies of Israel, sent by Moses to scout out The Promised Land and report back. Also, there are 12-13 tribes of Israel. 11 tribes and two half-tribes, Ephraim and Manassah, the sons of Joseph. Grogu and Din both being foundlings makes them like the two half-tribes.
@jamesc.3295 Жыл бұрын
To link Disney Plus shows - The New Republic are acting like the Empire did in Andor (as mentioned in this video). They were believed to be spread out, but in actuality they were coalescing and working together. The timelines are different of course - it took the Rebels much longer to centralize, but it's an interesting parallel nonetheless. The Empire believed the Rebellion wasn't even a rebellion but a set of isolated incidents due to their failure to think Galaxy-wide, and this is somewhat true for the New Republic in this show.

Two questions for lore experts - has it been confirmed whether Gideons soldiers are the ex-Mandalorian traitors we saw in similar armour in Clone Wars OR new clone troopers from his secret clone experiments? And do we know if Gideon was a Mandalorian pre-Empire?
@Escalationbird Жыл бұрын
It hasnt been confirmed but bo does say theyre not mandalorians. I think these guys are just rocket troopers that are wearing the spiritual successor to the imperial super commando armor. The helmet clearly evokes stormtrooper as well. They could be clones of course, but I kinda hope the cloning is only meant for bigger plot threats as just cloning some troops with his limited resources seems like a waste. I kinda hope gideon turns out to be mandalorian at some point but thats just a theory for now.
@skankhuntdave7232 Жыл бұрын
@@Escalationbird yeah I’m starting to think Gideon is a foundling or one of the traitor mandos. Why else has he been showing so much attention to mandalore and the culture. He’s even wearing beskar.
@Escalationbird Жыл бұрын
@@skankhuntdave7232 Its entirely possible. Altough the vast majority of super commandos were either killed or captured, I think he might have already left its predecessor faction after maul abandoned them. It would make more sense as that gives him a long distinguished career in the Empire allowing him to climb to the top of the isb. It would also increase the significance of his horned helmet and would mean the Armorer and him likely have a long history together (assuming her horns arent just for drip either).

Since episode 7 is also called "The Spies", I have thought of a speculation that the Armorer is also a spy since the episode title is in plural and not singular. We can see Kane is actually a spy at the start of the episode. If the shows only want to show one spy, it'll be called "The Spy" instead. How I think that the Armorer is a spy? Remember she says that Beskar smithing is a very closely guarded secret? Then how and why does Gideon's army including himself has beskar armor since the technique is only known to the Armorer?

How i see it, if it's not The Armorer and it's not Sasha, it's the shadow council Most likely the Armorer. Bread crumbs are all over. No other character is developed well enough to say in hindsight the clues were all there. Axe has no incentive to spy outside of his perhaps wanting to get the dark saber because when he controlled the fleet he seemed to have everything he wanted. If he wanted the saber so badly he would've challenged Din Djarin himself already. Nothing in his character suggests he has any such aspirations or agendas. No such motivation. Seems genuinely interested in hurting imperials, taking Mandalore and preserving the honor of his people

Some of Gideon's dialog when confronting the Mandalorians gave me another theory to what he might have planned. What if the cloning he's doing is indeed for transplants, but cloning organs from Force sensitive subjects, in the hope of giving the recipient the "M Count" of the "donor"? He could be trying to build a Force wielding, beskar armored army. Even if this doesn't show up later, that doesn't mean he didn't try and fail.
