After spending 3 weeks in China, including 2 weeks in your hometown of Dali where my wife is from, these videos are very helpful for someone going to China. Sadly, I am still struggling with Mandarin but I am determined now so that on my next trip, I am going to surprise my friends ad my mother in-law! Keep it up with the these basic types of podcasts as they're very helpful.

This is very useful. Just about everything seems to be geared toward people who want to learn near complete Chinese. I (and I'm sure many others) just want to learn survival words and phrases and be able to interact a bit. The most common place I talk to people (locals) in other countries is restaurants and markets so I find anything related to words/phrases you need there very useful. Thanks!

Thank you so much Luke! Is there any chance you can add those phrases to the MB Traverse?

I’m thinking if taking the MB challenge. Can we add our own words and phrases to Traverse or is it all pre made ?
@MandarinBlueprint2 ай бұрын
More than likely you'll come across them in the course

It’s may smoother for western people to say “怎么去地铁站”in grammar, as it’s the same sequence of “How to go to the subway station ” of course Chinese people will also understand 😁 a little thought from a native speaker 😊

I mostly sorta know most of these but the way it's pronounced here sounds so different than how I'd say (or hear) it in Guangxi province. here, the 'Z' is a real crisp Z but there it's like a 'Sh'. I wonder if that's just the China 'southern accent'?

There are countless variations throughout China, each with their own "flavors" influenced by local dialects. Just be aware that all of these are never "wrong", just like how you won't ever fault an English speaker for saying "gonna" instead of "going to"

@@MandarinBlueprint Yes and I'm not Chinese so I don't care about 'blame' as if that's part of it. I do like conversations about these regional differences and why learning 'Beijinghua' is great but when traveling China there is going to be some fairly significant variations. (or in my case, learning Guangxi 'Luizhouhua' and then being stumped and thrown off in Beijing.
