That's capitalism, folks. Educating yourself improves the world for everyone around you, but cost barriers go up anyway because our society isn't built to make the world better for everyone around you. It's built to make the world better for the ruling class at your expense. Of course this ugly fact isn't the fault of @MandarinBlueprint, who should be compensated by public funds for performing a public service and shouldn't have to lower himself to doing sales.

In Chinese, the word "注意" (zhùyì) has different tonal nuances depending on the context. For example, if you're a school teacher and your students are chatting during class despite your instructions for quiet, you might use the microphone and say "注意!" ("zhùyì!"). The students would respond with "安靜" ("ānjìng"), meaning "quiet". Yes, indeed, in Asian culture, teachers often manage students in a stricter, more militarized manner. So when a teacher says "注意!", students respond with "安靜". If the teacher cannot hear the students' response, they might repeat the action. However, in everyday conversations, the word "注意" can often be translated as "to pay attention" or "to be mindful". For instance, if someone says, "This document is very important, remember to complete it and hand it to me next week. Please 注意一下." Here, "注意" actually means "to pay attention" or "to be mindful".

Just made a really cool connectionwhen you said ti means body. I was watching a popular TV show called Three Body Problem (based on a Chinese novel) and there's an alien race in there called the San Ti. And a quick Google search revealed that, yes, San can mean three in mandarin 😂 . So the alien race is literally called Three Body in mandarin.

Your mileage may vary, but in my decades of language learning I've found 20 words per day to be a reasonable, sustainable suggestion. 100 per day is VERY aggressive--at the end of a three months of study, you'll have NINE THOUSAND words to either use regularly in daily life, if you're lucky, or to review the hard way. Assuming you only need to review half those words in study, and that you're so good that it only take 3 seconds per review, it would still take FOUR HOURS to see the 4500 words you need to review. If you can't do 100 words a day, the problem isn't you.
@MandarinBlueprint

All valid points, and if you wanted, using the techniques in this video you could learn 100 words in a day. Should you want this? Depends on your situation. Most people don’t need to.

So, I've been playing around with chatgpt and I can't come up with the ideal solution. I'm actually trying to do all of the steps with AI and write the omnipotent AI request so to speak))))...for the chinese character 体现 can you please 1) use it in a typical sentence not longer than 5 words with pinin 2) explain what characters mean separately 3) create a personalized example not longer than 5 words (i'm an ...by trade) 4) create a sound definition link, meaning you should come up with a similar sounding english word (i'm an english speaker). And it just spews out complete gibberish. Any suggestions, guys? Also it would be nice to just do a batch upload of all the words that I 'know' to this AI thing and receive a personalized learning table of phrases and correct usage etc.
@MandarinBlueprint
@MandarinBlueprint 7 күн бұрын
The bad news is - AI is still not competent enough to do all that. While we do hope to create an AI engine that can do about 80% of what you described, the last one for similar-sounding English words might be a challenge because of the natural variations in pronunciation for all languages. For now, one of the best resources at hand is the Pleco app. Search for the word you're looking for, and it will show you how to pronounce it, write it, the pinyin, all the different meanings, how they're used in sentences (not always available for more complex words), and even a breakdown of what each character in the word means.
@victoricus1
@victoricus1 7 күн бұрын
@@MandarinBlueprint yeah, well, pleco is not exactly user friendly, meaning that it's not a learnign platform, it's rather a dictionary. And the same can be done with TOFU learn and it breaks all the vocab into hsk levels, all for free. But the problem is learning within a context, which can be very personal. Still, this all can be done with ai, if you describe the context thoroughly.

Perhaps the fact that you've made no progress should tell you that you cannot possibly come close to fluency by remaining illiterate in the language. I know that social media are flooded with people making videos telling you that all you need to do to learn Mandarin is just to listen to incomprehensible gibberish - they call it "immersion" but in fact it is "drowning." The only way to learn Mandarin without learning characters is to be born and raised as a native Mandarin speaker, hearing that language from the day they were born, and it's a little too late for us to do that.

Here's how to learn Chinese step by step: 0.5. learn the sounds of the language 1. Memorise HSK1, 2, 3, and 4. Or learn the top most common 1200 words. 2. Use those words in conversation, with listening and speaking. 3. Try to become fluent enough with these that you can ask and answer basic questions in a slow conversation with a friend trying to help. Then watch some kids shows in the language and see how much you understand 4. Learn the rest of the words up to 3000 (or hsk6) 5. Watch movies, listen to songs, try doing native level learning at this point

@MandarinBlueprint
@MandarinBlueprint Ай бұрын
chuyihangwang7880 is right, 去 isn't necessary here, but it's used as an expressive way to talk about doing a certain thing, specifically something you'd "go" and do. E.g.: 我要探讨这件事。 I have to look into this matter. 我要去探讨这件事。I have to go look into this matter. Just like the English versions, the meaning doesn't change much, and it's just a slightly more expressive way to convey the same message.

My apologies, this is super difficult for me. BtW can you factor in MIND PALACE that you have introduced earlier. How does it work with complicated characters. I know characters and word are different, I was wondering how you amalgamate it together. I guess you need to learn some hundreds of words regardless how and then you can work on this. You can hardly make a meaningful sentence or a story without knowing a bit. But good tips anyway.
@MandarinBlueprint
@MandarinBlueprint Ай бұрын
Hey Janat, so you learn single characters first, which then form more complex characters, and eventually you'll unlock words, followed by sentences, and so on. This is done using the Hanzi Movie method. You can find a breakdown of this here: www.mandarinblueprint.com/blog/chinese-mnemonics/
