Hi. Thanks for the information. What rooting hormone is best? What time of year is best to take cuttings
@Grow_Up_Man55
@Grow_Up_Man55 11 ай бұрын
Any rooting hormone will do. If you can control the environmental factors, like light and temperature - then any time of year will work. If not, then spring or summer.

Good afternoon, "GROW UP MAN', If none of my cuttings take root...i've been thinking of a way to get a rooting from a cutting. I will try layering. I will not cut any stem from the mother plant. I will lay a vine horizontal on the surface of soil, pin it down & cover a node or 2 with soil & wait! I am sooo baffled at my attempt to get a cutting to root! Have a GREAT weekend!

Hello from BC Canada! I have previously seen this very helpful vid. & have saved it 4 reference. I have ONE question. After you take stem cuttings of a Mandevilla, do the leaves turn yellow & drop off or do the leaves stay green on the stem & root for you?? I want to know the stem cuttings can be successful! Best regards!

No the leaves shouldn't turn yellow and drop off. I get a pretty good rooting rate - probably up in the 90 percent range.

@@Grow_Up_Man55 Wow! That is amazing to me. I am stumped as to why all my cuttings are not cooperating with me & making me miserable! What am i doing wrong? I would be over the moon if i saw just ONE cutting root for me. You said to put the cuttings out of light, i saw earlier another vid. that said cover your cuttings & put it in light. Here it is for your review/comment: kzbin.info/www/bejne/b5alnmSBp8qCptE I looked at all those cuttings (12) with no leaves. I know they have nodes on them so i removed all of them and laid them horizontal on soil and covered & watered them & returned them to under the table, hoping that some of them will root. I know they will die if i leave them standing vertical with no leaves. This is my last attempt to try & get them to root for me. Here's hoping!
@Grow_Up_Man55
@Grow_Up_Man55 6 күн бұрын
Laying horizontally is not the method. That's a sure way to kill them. If you watch my video carefully you will see the exact method, step by step to follow. No-one said keep them out of the light. the opposite in fact is true. They need as much light as possible - just not direct sun through glass. You say you removed the nodes? That doesn't make sense to me. Just follow the steps in this video.

It’s frustrating trying to help when you don’t really know what someone has done. I hope they work for you as it really isn’t difficult providing you follow the directions. One thing to consider though. Mine is a species. Yours might be a hybrid that just happens to be more difficult to propagate. Just a thought. Good luck. 🤞

@Grow_Up_Man55

@@ingridtheissen-anderson8622 I’d keep them inside or protected until you’ve decent sized plants - so we’re talking at least one up-pot, so at least they’ll stand a chance. That could be after a few months from cuttings. Possibly sooner in your climate.

All you can do is prvide it with optimal conditions and wait - you can't force it to grow - it'll do it naturally. But if you're wanting to propagate, providing you can find a branch with fairly new growth on the end, then you can use that. Sometimes you just have to use flowering stems - but make sure to follow all the directions inn the video.

They’re high light plants so I expect you’ll need grow lights. If it’s not bright enough you’ll get loads of green growth and fewer blooms.

Definitely. It's not to keep them warm, it's to retain high humidity near to the cuttings. Just keep them out of direct sun. You can remove them after a couple of weeks.

It's definitely the Mandevilla not the Masdevallia ignea - as he's spoken about it before. The cuttings are for me to replace the one I'm giving him - which will be the plant from the cooler side of the greenhouse - which is in a 5 litre pot and currently has 3 foot long vining stems! I may have to sacrifice some of those as they're all entwined around the trellis.

My Mandevillle plant died during the winter so I dug up the root. Can I get it to regrow from the roots? If so what do I need to do.
@Grow_Up_Man55
@Grow_Up_Man55 2 жыл бұрын
Difficult to say, Ray. If there's any stem left try scraping at it with a knife. If there is still green underneath then it's still alive. I have heard that it's possible for Mandevilla to die back to ground level then re-sprout again when the temperatures improve so all is not lost. Plant it in a pot of multipurpose compost - but mix in some sharp drainage like horticultural sand or grit (a third), water once, then put somewhere warm and sunny. Only water again when it's completely dry. Good luck!

Hola. ¡Buena suerte! kzbin.info/www/bejne/nZKrnZx9e9ipfqM
