​@@MandoLessonsHi, nice lesson. There are so many versions of this tune on "the session" that it's hard to find a definitive one, but this is a great instructional video. However, you have it listed as "Traditional" on the sheet music, whereas in fact it was composed by Davey Arthur.

It's definitely a learning curve trying to figure out a song this way without notes in front of me but it's definitely fun figuring it out by ear. Great lesson

the reason why it's called Tamlin because in the late 60s and early 70s there was band called tamlinn (not tamlin) a guy named Davey Arthur and George furey came up with the tune on the way to Holland to do a tour, Eddie furey came up with the name of the tune, the tune became a hit quick then Davey changed it to the Glasgow reel in the 80s, that group of people are now known as the fureys (happy to be one of them)

I can play this song on the violin, and as I see the note map of this song almost the same on the mandolin. So my question is that is it hard to learn to play the mandolin by myself after the violin?

I think it's far easier for a violin player to adapt to the mandolin than vice versa. The most difficult part would probably be getting the hang of using a plectrum.

It looks like on the 'spruced up' versions you're doing mostly open double stops, is that right?

Yep! With all the string crossing in this tune it is a great one for leaving fingers down and widening out your right hand in to double stops. Thanks for watching!
