You make a good point. Goals or something to aim for. Don’t necessarily have to be reached. But they make a good reference point and motivator .

I wish I had thought this way when I played saxophone. I burned out. But now I'm picking up the mandolin and I'm excited to do so!

This is great advice for me. My daily routine is non-existent so the few minutes at a time is very helpful

I noticed you have a leather strap woven through your strings above the tailpiece. I have rubber grommets there. In this video I also see a strap woven through your strings between the tuners and the nut. What is the purpose of that leather above the nut? How should I determine if I need that? I am a beginner playing on an Eastman 305A, which by the way I am very happy with as my first mando.

Great lesson, Baron. I am a finger-style guitar player and using a pick has been difficult! Do you have a lesson on use of pick?
@mohergenrader2113
@mohergenrader2113 6 жыл бұрын
TheMartinick same thing here. It feels very foreign. I've been through a few picks and found hard smooth pick is better. I'm going to buy a variety and try them til I got one that sticks.

Same here....I find using a pick quite difficult but have had some success using an .88mm nylon pick.

What a wonderful blessing for you to share your talents. I was given a mandolin two years ago. I know nothing on how to play it. I have tried to teach myself how to play. I don't have flexibility in my fingers to change chords with my left hand.? I dont have what I should start on first. Any advice for a true green horn?

It's a Kentucky KM-150. He mostly plays an Ellis Deluxe A Style and to repeat David above, it's a very much more expensive instrument. David Grisman, some years back, rated Tom Ellis as one of the top 5 mandolin makers in the world. I'm lucky enough to have one - they're great instruments!

That isn't your Ellis is it? This video was torture to watch because you never showed the top of the headstock. Is it a Gibson? There should be a rule that when a gorgeous mandolin is on a video, the headstock MUST be included!

Great stuff and lots to help my playing. But you have annoying habit of flicking the strings when you make a point each and every time. please don't, but it is good when you give an example; that helps.

Maybe you should write down what you want to say, then organise it concisely and come to the point without rambling on and also strumming randomly.....this took the first 5 minutes!!!

Ari C. I'm a little older than you and Sahar probably, as I've gotten older I've learned to listen better. There may be very important points that you are missing, while you are counting the minutes and deciding what he should be teaching and at what speed. Wishing you the best with your progress.

No offense! I like your videos but holy moly you explain too much, I mean more talking instead of teaching. Like it took you almost 6 minutes to get to the scale and arpeggios practices!
