The ppl in the comments do not realize how difficult and at times dangerous Kilimanjaro is, esp to someone who is not a professional and who is not really experienced as a professional. Glamping...not at all. Having guides is a necessity for safety and keeps the area clean from tourists who do not realize what they are getting into.

I seriously don't understand why people climb or hike up mountains just to get to the top and go back down again. What was all that for? Noone who has done it has ever given a satisfactory explanation for why it was beneficial. There are more meaningful (and less environmentally harmful) a person can do just to say they did it.

I have two friends who climbed Kilimanjaro by themselves and that is exactly what they did. Porters carried her food, tents, toilet, ect. The only thing she carried was herself. If that isn't alpine glamping I don't know what is but then again I'm Swiss so I might have a different definition.

Errr... if someone is carrying your bags for you and carrying a toilet for you, then it's not "the opposite of glamping." I get that she's never camped before, but does she realize that people normally carry their own bags and "take their meetings" on the ground?
