Just say you don't understand and ask for an explanation instead of trying to belittle someone else's opinions. He had nightmares of this song and mentions that in one of their first meetings, we know this. The fact that he went home and learned the song shows that he was already beginning to face his fears and come out of his shell even after the little time they had known eachother and spent together. He learned it for multiple reasons to me. One, to face his fears and the fact that he used to actually have nightmares of the song. Two, because it's a song that first played in the bar on their first date, so it's romantic for the both of them that he would even go through the trouble of learning a whole song just because they both knew it played on their first date. Do you watch movies just for jokes and explosions?????? /s @@curto201

She has the ability to hurt him due to her history and he’s infatuated but also happy with how she’s pulling him out of his fear. This scene is perfect for this movie and really ties everything together. Perfect choice of song for the narrative. And the slow crawl towards her as he sings the line, “and if you’re in it for love you ain’t gonna get too far” shows she’s the unintentional bad guy at that point in time

He reminds me of pets sounds Brian Wilson he absolutely crushes this song with the grace of a legend and Jennifer’s acting in this scene shows why she’s so talented. She conveys so much emotion with her eyes. Love astonishment guilt because she knows that in this moment she loves andrew’s character she’s astonished by his talent but she also knows she lied to him and she feels bad about it. A scene like this only comes around once in decade. Just jaw-dropping. 👌

Some renditions of songs make you realize just how amazing they are. I probably heard this song thousands of times growing up but this version is my favorite.
@chrisjenkins9427 Жыл бұрын
I felt the same, the original is ok but this version has become one of my favourites, wonder if hall and oates have ever played this song as a ballad 🤔 Can’t imagine they’d do any better than this though, Andrew nailed it! Was curious if it was actually him playing the piano, guess it is bc I watched him do a cover of an Elton John tune, talented dude to be sure!

Daryl Hall had a web series called Live from Daryl’s House where he jammed with all types of musicians. He sang his hits in various genres and tempos, and the show made me have even more respect for him as a musician. One favorite episode was Rob Thomas from Matchbox Twenty singing “Kiss on My List” as a slowed-down love song. Wonderful. Testament to what great songwriters Hall and Oates were.

I love the dynamic this song brings into the air. The lyrics suit them so well. With that beautiful voice and JLaw’s amazing acting, this scene is breathtakingly romantic.

What a genius song choice and emotionally palpable and gorgeous arrangement...this scene was perfection. I've watched this over and over. I really liked the movie too, but this song...

Fantastic comedy-drama, and that scene very moving. So great seeing Jennifer Lawrence in a decent movie, it's been 11 years. She's amazing in this.

I love how as the song went on he became more confident and started really singing and you could tell how much better he got as the song progressed.
@mockingbird993 Жыл бұрын
And at the same time she was becoming less confident, second guessing her own actions and the effect they were having on him. Idk I haven’t seen the movie, but that’s what I got from it. Great acting and writing!

@mockingbird993 that's exactly what happens in the movie. Great observation 👍

I just watched this last night. Shocking thoughtful and funny. The first half has some great comedy. Then pulls a switcharoo and tugs on your feel strings. It was way better than I expected.

Ok so I will be honest, I thought because it being a comedy, it would start and he would suck. What instead happened is I watched one of the most surprisingly powerful and emotional scenes I've ever seen. When he hammers in the notes, it is so intense. Well done with this scene.

This scene completely surprised me, he's so good! I was thinking he should pick up music instead of going to princeton. That's not to mention the emotion conveyed between them. Excellent.

Both are incredible in this movie, but that scene….WOW!!! Best rendition of Maneater that I’ve ever heard.
@katzkradle1848 Жыл бұрын
This scene is so vital to the movie and is enacted in sm depth because not only does he remember the song they talked about on their first date, but it is also the song that he mentions gave him nightmares when he was a kid. This scene metaphorically and realistically represents him overcoming that nightmare and also his fear of playing in public. Essentially getting a little more out there, which is so sweet and admirable. Such a great movie. 🥲

this movie was everything I was never expecting it to be and to make me feel, jlaw again bringing power, I just feel like the movie revolves around this song. What is completely mind blowing
@ricj101 Жыл бұрын
Two incredible actors. Jlaw's nervous gulp and especially her little look off to the side, like eyes are on her, like she's been revealed and for the very first time in a very long time, she feels just a smidge abashed.

Heard this song my entire life. I even know the words but this scene hit differently. I guess it reminded me of a girl I knew when I was younger. I guess we all loved the wrong woman at some point.
