I'm not Mell but I've been following her for a long time and I'd say maybe try silk hijabs or satin head wraps bcoz it prevents frizz as opposed to cotton or wool head wraps. And if those are too expensive or hard to find just try silk/ satin scarfs or bonnets before putting on ur hijabs or hats. Hope that helps

@serenity8824 thank you so much. I put satin or similar head cover before the scarf but I thought a video with multiple tips for ppl covering their hair would benefit many.

I just started trying to do my hair curly after straightening it for 10 or 15 years. I do color my hair every 4 to 5 weeks. Im not sure on porosity but I think it's high porosity. My hair gets wet pretty easily in the shower but it seems to dry really really fast. I have just been putting a cream and a gel in my hair all about curls high definition gel crunchless ultra hold Is the gel I use and all about Curlls bouncy cream touchable soft definition. I would like for my hair to look earlier than it does I have a few strands in the back that are just strings and they won't curl. Do you have any products you can recommend for me or a video I can watch for starting this curl journey?

Ok so I have super fine 2C waves & curls, w/no volume. I’m about 7mos into growing out a very short, trendy undercut w/silver platinum bleached hair that likes to frizz. But I’m ready! I got my microfiber towel, tangle teaser brush, my leave-in, mousse, dry texture spray, diffuser & hairspray. I also have my deep conditioning masks, Olaplex 0 & 3 and 2 types of hair oil. I have a silk pillowcase & 2 silk bonnets. I’m f’g ready for the Mel mane’s journey! I’m also broke now but hopefully I’ll be pretty & broke 🤣

Wow, Color me highly impressed. I didn't learn how to take care of my curly hair til I was 40 when there were very few curly hair specific products on the market but the curly girl method saved me. I grew up with the straight hair culture. I am almost 59, and I still learned something new to try. I bought some products to try today from your many videos I watched today. I get a lot of compliments on my hair at this point previously, but my hair is changing as I age and it isn't the same as when I was 40 or even 50. I hope in the next few weeks I can refine, define and improved on what I have. Thank you Mell. I found you from Casandra Bankson's video.

I hear you, at nearly 59! I wasn't xurly as a child, then it got thicker and it was always brushed and just straight and coarse. Then it went mad after I had it cut for the first time ever at 18 and turned into a huge Bush...... cur the Hair Bear Bunch and Crystal Tips comments. Coloured it. Shaved it. Grew it. Cut it. Straightened it with big fat rollers ....... I gave up fighting it and had no idea what to do with it at all so it has spent the past 20 years wetted every morning and put on top of my head. I know it forms ringlets with products but it's all changed again because I stopped colouring and I now have white hair with some old colour in!! I love Mell because it's refreshing to see curl knowledge and enthusiasm. Like you, I watched her self-cut stuff and am going to let a friend of mine have a go ....... what can possibly go wrong?!!!!

Hey Mel, Nearly two years ago I discovered you ….and KZbin 😳 ….when I needed help on whether to let my hair go naturally curly after nearly 50 years of wrestling my curly 3b hair into submission including tight pony tails, plaiting, chemical straightening, blow drying and hair straighteners. I HATED my hair and was always embarrassed by it. I had NO idea what the word hair ‘product’ meant and I had no idea that I had ‘curly’ hair!! I know that sounds impossible but because I had no idea how to care for my hair including always brushing it when dry…auuugghhh…frizz frizz and more frizz, no products …just trying to get it as straight as possible in order to have my hair look half way normal and manageable. Maybe it’s a generational thing?? (I’m older that your mum) and also because I live in Australia and we don’t have a huge, long established curly hair culture or community like in the US or Canada for example. Therefore our range of hair products that I see you guys and others using is considerably less along with actual hairdressers who know how to cut curly hair properly. BIG problem!! I know of only 3 hair stylists in Melbourne, Victoria that advertise themselves as being actual curly hair stylists (2 of which have recently undertaken Rezo cutting courses ). The curly hair stylist I am currently seeing every four months charges a whopping $300 (AU)…about $204(USD) for just a cut, wash and style (no colour)!! I am now actually enjoying my hair being curly and longer and it’s certainly healthier. I wear big funky earrings and sometimes strut big colourful headbands which I feel reflect my personality better than when it was cut very short and styled straight. I’m also in the process of growing my colour out which is an interesting journey in itself!! Anyway…hope your not nodding off coz this is quite a thesis!! Haha. Anyway thankyou for your engaging, humourous, intelligent and detailed vids which have helped me greatly in keeping me motivated and informed on my curly hair journey. I would love love love to see you cutting and styling more mature (50+ yrs) women’s curly hair (grey/transitioning to grey) in your future videos if possible. That would be amazing!! Thanks again Mel ✌🏼

I've had curly hair my entire life. I just recently am attempting to use proper products and style "correctly", and I'm still learning things, like you saying 90° brushing. I use a wide tooth comb in shower because I have a lot of hair falling out from PCOS. I've never brush styled or tried finger coiling but I'm gonna give it a try! I usually just rake my fingers, praying hands, squish, plop, and root clip for some more volume, then shake my roots out once mostly dry. Or just put product in, squish it in, and let air dry. Thanks for your tips and tricks, I really enjoy how you explain everything. ❤

A few years ago, I stopped straightening my curly hair. Soon after, I started buying a few specialized products (I'm half black so I gravitate towards afro products). After about 15 years of mistreatment, I got my natural texture back, I can finally wear my hair down and find it pretty! Along the way, I followed your channel, because I hoped that someday, I would finally get the motivation to jump in my curly journey and give my hair what it truly deserves. Today, I bought curl cream, curl gel, a spray bottle, and a hairdryer with a diffuser attachment. I have a photoshoot this Sunday, and will follow your tutorial, letting my hair get the star treatment it has always deserved :)

I am completely blown away by HOW AMAZINGLY THIS WORKED FOR ME. I have wavy hair but after brush styling the way you suggest, there's a bunch of honest to god ringlets in there too (seriously, tons!) I found that, for me, I needed to modify it a little bit by lightly finger coiling each section right after the brush. It helps the waves/curls clump (since the bristles kind of splay out the strands of each section a bit) and, since I have a looser pattern, they need a little help sticking together and bouncing back. But the results are way different from finger coiling alone. There's so much lift at the root, so much definition throughout, and it's literally the curliest my hair has ever been. I honestly didn't think I could get this result without curlers. I've tried so many different methods and products over several years of wearing my hair and I've never adopted a technique that made this much impact before. Thank you!!

5 years ago, I discovered that my hair is curly/wavy. I lived my life with a frizzball on my head that I always put in a bun and/or straightened it to death. Around this time I found this Channel witch just had a couple of videos on it - but real helpful ones as I was overwhelmed and confused about what to do with my hair. Now 5 years later, I have watched every single video of yours, learned a ton, had countless good laughs (love your humor!) and: I have never straightened my hair ever since to this day. While I wish my hair has a little bit of a tighter curl sometimes, mostly I celebrate my curls and waves now. So thank you Mel, you changed my head and I love it! Greetings from Germany

I've been a fan of yours for a long time, this is the best specific step by step video of how and why to do curly hair -- especially the brush, I have not understood how to use the brush for curls until today, thank you Mell 😊

Thank you so much Mell!! I started watching your videos a few years ago and you have helped my hair get healthy again. Wash time is nowhere near as long as it used to be, and styling is so much easier now. My hair and I really appreciate your tips and tricks. It's never looked so pretty ❤❤❤

Just came across your channel the other day and I have to say this is the best advice I’ve seen in the three years that I’ve been going on KZbin for curly hair advice. What started as pandemic boredom for me (lol) has turned into a passion to really understand my curly hair. The fact that you have curly hair AND you are a hairstylist is amazing. Plus it helps that our curl type is very similar. 😊 Thank you! Looking forward to watching more videos! I’m going to look through your videos now for tips on making the style last longer and how to best refresh.

I don't want to offend you, but your left side is much more defined, more even, and looks softer (although you say it is not) than the right side. I am thankful for your videos. My hair went from board-straight to very curly in 6 months. I am lost so lost! I was a cosmetologist, too! No one teaches vurly hair techniques in school. Thanks for instructing me. I learned a lot from you today! Keep up the good work! ❤

I just came across your channel and am soooo delighted to have found you because I have been struggling with styling my 3B hair for so long. I followed your video to a tee and I must be in serious need of a haircut because my hair came out super flat and volumeless with lots of curls at the ends. I’m hoping you have a haircut video that I can share with my hairstylist or do myself. Thank you for your commitment to helping put us curly gals!!
