I like my dyson but I prefer a bigger diffuser bowl with longer teeth to get to my roots without squishing the curls and dry more of my hair faster, sooo… I ordered an extra concentrator attachment from dyson, then had my husband cut the magnet part and high heat glue it to my Black Orchid diffuser. I’m in love. Best of both worlds.

I recently started seeing a curly trained stylist. She gets MUCH more definition at the root when diffusing. I have super fine curly hair and I asked her what she was doing. Instead of pushing the hair to the root and holding the diffuser for a few seconds, she picks up the hair gently and places the hair in the diffuser off the head a little. I know you are “hands off” but since I have been doing that I have more definition and less frizz at my roots!

Not a vid, but I had a really tough problem with this. At night I use metal root clips to teach my hair to go up. I use Boldify Root Spray in my roots and for root volume and root wave definition, I use a 4 prong Spriggle pick and stick it straight in my hair scrunching in and then lifting the root while hover diffusing (a little like back combing without the combing part). This works really, really well. It's like hands free scrunching your hair. You get no frizz though because you aren't disrupting the cuticle or curls and waves. Also dries your roots fast.

@pollysshore25393 жыл бұрын
@@heatherhaworth4993 I got mine 1.5 years ago and it has the grounding box. It also cuts down my drying time. I have thick, dense 2c - 3b hair. It typically took me 2 hours (with a couple breaks) to blow dry my hair. 18 hours to air dry. My hair is 80% dry in 20 min with the Dyson. It takes 30-35 min to fully blow dry it. I have a couple large diffusers with bigger bowls that I adore (like the Black Orchid) so I do have another hairdryer on hand that I use part of the time. I’m amazed that my Dyson has lasted a year and a half and still going strong but I still use another dryer to ensure that I’m not overusing the Dyson.

What do you use for heat protection? I use lots of moisturizing products such as leave in and curl cream so I havent been using a heat protection but I am wondering if I should be.
@oxkit0katxo413 Жыл бұрын
If you’re using heat of any kind on your hair, you should def use a heat protectant. As far as which one to use, it honestly depends on your hair type, hair goals, what types of heat you use, etc. So for instance there are some that protect your hair from very high heat (such as when using hot tools) & others that are really only meant for blow drying which uses less heat. Some protectants offer extra benefits such as adding moisture &/or protein to your hair, controlling frizz or protecting your hair from UV rays (also very important.) For my own hair I prefer a silicone free, lightweight heat protectant spray that can be used on wet, damp or dry hair & has both high heat protection & UV protection. (I almost never use hot tools & don’t spend much time outdoors, but my hair is not in the best condition rn & I don’t want it to get any worse so I’m playing it safe.) Anyways, I’m sorry I can’t be more helpful as far as product recommendations. I would just make lists of things you want from a heat protectant & what you def don’t want. Then search for protectants that claim to meet all of your specific hair needs, read the reviews & pick out whichever one seems best for you. Hopefully you’ll find something you love! Good luck!
@AshleySimpkins666 Жыл бұрын
@@oxkit0katxo413 It may not seem like much but your comment helps me a lot. I will definitely be in search of a heat protectant very soon as I do like to blow dry and diffuse now. My hair is also not in the best of conditions, honestly dont even know why other than likely my screwed up hormones 😂. So I should absolutely be taking precautions. I thought leave in conditioner helped with UV rays, maybe it still does but a light protectant would still be wise.
@tuttyfat Жыл бұрын
When using a heat protector liberally spray your damp hair then continue during drying and/or using hot tools until your hair is completely dry. Look for the ones without oil or a separate "smoothing" ingredient for this. Otherwise, it could make your hair oily. Edit: since your hair isn't in the best condition consider deep conditioning treatment. Get trims every 3 months to take off split so it won't damage the healthy area. Split ends can NOT be cured or healed.

I'm a wavy to curly girl over 50 with very long, mostly natrual gray hair and what's left of colored hair towards the bottom, and I've been watching Mel's videos since the pandemic. And I've half-assed her and other's suggestions on my hair. I know Mel knows what she's talking about, but I get lazy with my hair. I also get into a rush and want it done and dry NOW. I hate air drying because it takes hours, and I also wash more frequently than I should because of summer heat and menopausal night sweats. This morning I made a pointed effort to do things the "right" way after watching this late last night. I also don't own a Dyson and never will due to the cost, and use drug store products that I can afford. I have a decent dryer I got on Amazon along with a diffuser. I started with the detangling in the shower and applied my leave in and gel to sopping wet hair. Scrunched with a t shirt. After a few minutes I went in with my dryer using the techniques above, and I'm having the best curly day ever, with little to no tangles in my length. I was literally going to cut off about three inches of hair. Even my wirey grays are behaving as best they can. And it didn't really take any longer than when I rough dry my hair and finish it with a warm flat iron or curling wand. Bottom line, if you're like me and you've watched her videos, use her information! If she can take the time to make them, we can take the time to do our hair the right way!! Thanks Mel 🌹

Hi, Mell! I’m a 3A with very long hair like your sister, but my curl pattern does not start till 3 or 4 inches from the scalp! Have you ever heard of this before? It’s still frizzy but does not curl. Now, if I cut all my hair that short, it won’t be stick straight, but it won’t be curly either. Just frizzy and about the worst hair anyone could ever imagine, no real curl pattern just a mess. It’s very strange looking hair. My hair has all textures, mostly on the fine side, but not super fine. Oh, and my crown in the front portion is low density with medium density everywhere else. What is my problem, DR. Mell?! ♥️ and how do I fix it?! 🙏🏻

If i put gel or anything on it to tame the frizz, it’s straight with a slight weird wave. Also, there is absolutely nothing heavy about my hair. I wish that was my problem! I feel you on the price.. that’s why I went with a knockoff for now.. I just found Mell’s vids a few weeks ago so, I’m going to do better by my hairs using her tips and advice and then upgrade my dryer.. if you’d told me weeks ago that I would add 7 more products to my non existent routine, my response would have been “where they do that at?” Today, I’m really excited to test the waters and really embrace my 3c curls (I think). Thanks to Mell, I don’t feel lost or want to scalp myself.. lol

I got a gift set that came with the diffuser and a couple brushes that Sephora has. I got it during the VIB sale so I saved $80. I chose to use afterpay so I paid the cost over 6 weeks so it wasn’t too bad all at once. So I spent $340 total. Still really expensive but not as bad.

And I hate to say it but my T3 dries just as quickly, the cold shot is actually cold, and you can use any diffuser you want, but at least the T3 diffusers don’t suck. And I got mine for $150 that’s WITH the diffuser at Costco.
@pattyfigarola50573 жыл бұрын
Mine was $399 at Ulta and that included the diffuser. It was definitely a splurge, but I plan on it being around for a long time.

Suggestion for a video - your top 5 favorites, in all categories for example,shampoo, clarifying shampoo, conditioner, leave in, gel, etc. just starting out and watching your video's and find it very confusing on what I should get in each category. Maybe a video on your drug store fav and your high end favorites. Also, I watched a video from 2019 about why I shouldn't use my hands during the drying process! Thanks!

Love your channel and your website! And you are so entertaining and funny while at the same time being so very informative! Comment and a question. Comment: Not everyone can afford the Dyson much as we might like. Can you please recommend other hair dryers or maybe even to a review video of a bunch of dryers you consider good.

I don't do it for elongation, but for root volume and root wave definition. I use a 4 prong Spriggle pick and stick it straight in my hair scrunching in and then lifting the root while hover diffusing (a little like back combing without the combing part). This works really, really well. It's like hands free scrunching your hair. You get no frizz though because you aren't disrupting the cuticle or curls and waves. Also dries your roots fast. Please review Virtue labs curl line with either their mousse, AG mousse Gel, or Gel over the Curl Whip cream (you may get away with just the curl whip). It uses ethically sourced human hair keratin that bonds to your hair to repair damage and add fullness. The curl line & mousses are the only dimethicone free but OMG this is AMAZING STUFF. They are working on a gel at consumer request.

Serious question, what do you do if you cant use a hairdryer during the summer? (Super hot, even with AC I tend to sweat and feel gross right after showering)
@lyanagonzalez55993 жыл бұрын
I just turn on the ac and sit in front of the fan , this works well for me and im lazy so is easier too lmao

Turn your cool shot on on your blow dryer.

@@RingletReina on most dryers that would work, but the “cool shot” on the Dyson is 80 degrees. I intensely dislike this hairdryer!

You might want to look into buying a refurbished Dyson, of if that's still too expensive you might want to think about purchasing a Shark dryer. I've been looking at reviews for myself and the Shark seems to be pretty comparable and less expensive than the Dyson, but it's newer and not as popular so it doesn't have as many attachments.
@ILovekitties3452 жыл бұрын
Sometimes you can do split payments on those items look into smaller payments each month if you really want the dyson because that’s my plan I’m pretty sure they do financing. Hope this helps!

I am a middle-aged lady with a huge pile of 3b hair that stays wet for a long time so I have always had nice dryers -- Babyliss, Solano, Elchim, Chi. When Dyson came out, I was like NFW that's too much but let's see. I made several trips to the Bed Bath & Beyond to dry my hair with their Dyson display. I was not impressed (but the store employees & guests always were lol). In 2021, I was looking for a travel dryer, small, delicious. I splurged bought the T3 FIT micro & it is the best dryer I have ever owned. Ever. It's still a kind of spendy dryer but tbh I stopped using my Chi Touch 2 lol so it's not just a travel dryer anymore. Good luck.

I use a T3 featherlight, you can get it at Costco for $100. The Dyson is small but it is NOT light. Very awkward cord situation too. I hated it all around and returned it. It did dry fast, but I also hated the diffuser and the 80 degree “cold shot.”

@@lngislgirl BTW, it’s the T3 Featherweight 3i PS you have to buy the diffuser separately but it’s only $30. You can get it from T3 or Amazon make sure it’s the T3 SOFTTOUCH 3. This dryer was originally $250 without the diffuser! For $5 over half price you get the diffuser, the dryer and the two concentrating nozzles! Plus it has a locking cool shot (which I love)!

I like to use the first technique that you used, then separate the curls to very small clumps when almost dry.... like very very small, and finally I scrunch my hair again when its dry and separate the hairs I missed. That leaves the definition, no frizz, a tun of volume and fluffiness :3. I also brush my hair upwards cause when I brush it to the side, it still looks flat so I have to brush the hair up.
@ashleydensmore15613 жыл бұрын
This video just changed my hair game. I got the wide-tooth comb attachment for free with purchase of the dryer and was afraid of how to use it. The back-comb method was a great finishing technique, as my roots tend to get lazy with the downward diffusing method. Absolutely love my hair tonight! #thebiggathehairthehardertheystare
