Pretty sure the Yakuza usually only have an outline and it gets painted when they become "real" so either they got it wrong, or this girl has already done it. Of course they also do it if they have a lot of time and money, but that's not the case most of the time. Many Yakuza tattoos are symbolic, and generally are meant to represent the person wearing them. In the case of this young lady, red is happiness, represents passion and the love of being alive. Additionally, in traditional Japan, it symbolizes protection against evil forces. Flowers in Japan symbolize perseverance, It's hard to tell exactly what flower on her back is as I'm not exactly a floriculturist, but it looks like a Peony. That being said, the Peony itself is considered the best of flowers thus also being given the moniker "King of flowers". with it’s large and spreading petals, which are delicately curled at the edges, the peony has been called “the rose without thorns”. Often depicted in tattoo imagery in deep red, it symbolizes wealth, good fortune and prosperity, and is a strong symbol of beauty, fragility and transitory nature of existence. None of what she went through was her fault, and the sins of her father are not hers to bare. He was brave enough to stand up for her and try his best to change her situation for the better. I'm glad that Shizuru and Riko could reunite together after so long apart. And it was really heartwarming that Shizuru accepted Riko entirely and never lost his love for her, in spite of her family being Yakuza. And the strength of will he had to stand up to her father, even at gun point, was amazing. And I'm glad her father accepted their relationship. Shizuru and Riko are such a wholesome and adorably sweet couple. And I'm glad they can be together after so many years of hardship for the both of them.

I really, really enjoyed this story and plot line. FINALLY! An MC with stones and integrity. I get to tired of the whiny little snot-bubbling wussies that are in so many other stories so this was truly refreshing. shockinging. I figured MC was a Yakuza son (not a rival/waring group with her family) or ex-Yakuza/Mafia too. ESPECIALLY the way he stod up to and actually SCOLDED her father ... with several real, loaded guns aimed his way. Nice to have a MC that don't sound on the verge of tears when talking to the girl he loves ... or talks to anyone else for that matter ... or back down/run away when threatened. There was a lot of stupid going on in this story, just as Shizuru said, though all of it pails in comparison to the stupid thing Riko's father had done. Giving a tattoo to a child? That's as dumb as getting a tattoo on your stomach! Skin doesn't stretch evenly. That tattoo on Riko's back should have been all sorts of distorted and malformed. It should not have looked as nice as it did.
