That's a respectable angle; I'm airing more on the side of Mang0. I think Armada was being overly emotional here. If only one of them had a past of taking jabs at another, specifically Mang0, it would be a little different. Both of them have arguably participated in the same behavior, Armada's just decided to draw the line and handle it in a very public way which seems unnecessary and petty.

The interesting part is - I understand why he said what we said about both sides being wrong. The main thing that struck me was that Mango said if Armada messaged him and told him to stop, he would have. That it wasn't that deep and that he would have stopped if Armada DM'ed him and told him to chill. Alternatively, Mango should have done the same thing when it came down to Armada saying he was the GOAT. I understand why Mango was confused in this situation, he took what he felt was disrespect to the chest and handled the situation how he knew how. But you can't expect everyone to do things the same way. Being petty was wrong, and although I won't say he is totally in the wrong. Mango should have probably taken his own advice and initiated a conversation behind the scenes. Mango is a joker, he pokes at you and he doesn't mean it until he does. If both of them just spoke about it to each other - Mango telling Armada that he felt disrespected and Armada telling Mango to stop earlier, this whole situation could have been avoided. I've seen people make a comparison to the HBox and Armada situation. Post EVO, Mango told HBox to stop complaining and get better to earn his respect. HBox did, and although it took time - he earned Mango's respect. He never told him that "I'll always be better than you", he told him to get good, and make him shut up. Frankly a response I would expect from Mango. Armada did NOT give Mango that same respect, and it clearly affected Mango in a way we didn't anticipate. I think it hurt his pride as a player, and hurt him that a close friend would say that so coldly. It's sad to be honest.

What really happened was hbox and mango both realized they kinda made themselves look really bad and backed off and mango matured and they gradually respected each other more as people. I agree if they both spoke about it sooner on both sides this could have been avoided. I think the main difference is that Mango is able to play hard ball. He’s able to feel the disrespect and disrespect a little back and if it gets too hot in the back and forth they can agree to stop and bury it. He’s got the skin to fuck around a bit. It’s when armada feels like it’s gone too far and drops a nuke on Mango where Mango feels like this didn’t need to get this far. I understand where mango is on this and can relate to him. I really do think this mostly just comes down to Armada having pretty thin skin, frankly. He has this annoying habit of playing victim and acting as though the community has some sort of bizarre, unique disdain for him, when in reality he is overwhelmingly beloved for the most part. Idk, when you're arguably the greatest competitor of all time in a certain field, and you're a legend within that community, and then all you seemingly ever do is complain about how mean everyone is, you just come off as a bit of a baby. Just being brutally honest here. You would never see someone like Michael Jordan come out and make a twitter post whining about how he's received death threats from random LeBron fans on the internet. He would understand how popular and respected he is on the whole, and take it all in stride.

It's also a little excessive to think all the hate to Armada are purely mang0 fans; you have to remember that Armada quit when he looked almost unbeatable for years, consistently 1st-placing everything without dropping games to anyone but hbox, leffen and sometimes m2k a few years back now. Just to say this, twitter impressions are massively inflated compared to let's say youtube views. For a youtube view people have to actively decide to click on a video, while a twitter impression counts the times it's been on anyone's feed, through whatever means. Like imagine every video you scrolled past got a view from you. Some people who follow a lot of smash people and scrolled past the quote retweets to this a couple of times might have added 50 impressions to this by themselves. So more likely the amount of people, who actively read the tweet let alone the twittlonger are in the 5 figures.

mang0 is constantly spoken about as having the largest and most supportive community versus other melee pros, which i agree; simultaneously, i believe he must also receive the most hate as well. mango, being the number 2 contention to armadas goat status (since adams retirement) must've been always brought up. armada, and a large portion of the community, must've shut mango out of contention of the #goat spot. i cant imagine how badly this upset mango. spending his whole life fighting for this title. although, in current times, i believe its more than fair to say hes beaten armada out of this status. regardless, im not saying mango was right to say what hes said, but surely hes only responded to what armada has commented (but more importantly, the communities comments overall). i wholeheartedly do not believe mango ever wanted to bring negative attention towards armada, let alone armadas legacy. because to tarnish armadas legacy is to tarnish mangos own reputation. it sucks that either of these legends have to deal with community backlash, especially armada imo. hes no longer able to shut down haters though performance. both of these players have defined the game and have made so many memories for its players. it just sucks that internet provocation has resulted in drama. too bad these two legends cant get along. i wish the best for both of them as theyve both provided countless memories for me.

It really comes down to how you view things. Mango believes longterm play is enough for him and Hbox to surpass Armada and I disagree, instead believing one should know when to hang it up versus a visible decline or worse a collapse -Imagine if Jordan officially retires after Ring 6, he not only threepeated in the 90s, but retired for two years to play baseball, then returned and after one season to remove the rust he threepeated again, 6 championships in 7 seasons even despite that little detour. He retires after that I don't think there's a conversation between him and Lebron, who has been excelling late into his career where Jordan floundered -Imagine if Tom Brady retired after 2021. Puts up the highest numbers of his entire career, proved he didn't need Belichick for a championship, and had another Brady-esque comeback that fell just short due to a late field goal to cap off his career at the young age of 44. Instead he came back to hit Mr. 100,000 passing yards and proceeded to have arguably his worst season and sacrificed his perfect streak of positive seasons Stats like Adam's are friggin' mythical and it's not as though he got big results and dipped, he kept that consistency for a decade. There are videos chronicling players who merely took a single *GAME* off Armada in his career, it was an event if someone got a game while even during Mango/Hbox's reigns it was routine for them to lose sets to far lower ranked players and in some cases they were unranked

I’m new to the smash scene but I do know ball, and how it is different compared to esports. In nba championship isn’t the only metric for debating who is the best, and Jordan coming back after retiring was adding on to his legacy instead of decreasing it. (After all he did cross the 30k threshold after he came back) people like to say statistics don’t matter and winning is the only thing, but it’s complicated in a team sport

Even in a long sport like Boxing quite a few fighters come and go undefeated in several categories, yet none can really be called the "greatest of all time". I think the issue was that Melee outlived what Adam percieved to be the lifespan of competitive Melee and hated the pressure of keeping his clean record. So he quit while he was ahead, but the game moved on. Now he has to live with the fact that the game is moving far past his age, and him claiming to be the greatest player is met with pushback from the new competitors who match his skill level due to the new tools

I think Armada is a bit of a baby about all this but hey, he's entitled to feel the way he feels. Mang0 teases everyone which is his way of showing he cares. You either get it or you don't (like Hbox). I think deep down Mang0 wishes Armada still played tbh. The meta / game as a whole HAS changed a lot in the last few years. Go look at matches from 2015 between Mang0 and Armada and you can tell there's a massive difference in Mang0's play from then to now. I'm sure Armada would adapt but still.

For longer than you think. Mango has to keep up a persona on stream, we rarely see who these people really are when they’re not on camera. I met mang0 a few tournaments and he was one of the nicest top players I’ve ever met. Others were a bit more standoffish but he and his whole Norwalk crew were more welcoming than anyone I’ve ever met in the community.

Im a mango fan, far more than an armada fan (i dont even follow him on twitch) and I do think mango is in the wrong here. No, M2K actually responded to Armada's twitlonger saying he has received similar hatred. He complains about it quite a bit lol. The idea of accusing sides of "crying" and being babies is ridiculous because Mang0 literally says he lashed out because he was offended and "hurt" and sad. So his response to that is to consistently spread negativity on stream. It's pointless to say people are "crying" when it's just a chain reaction of people doing things because they're upset. And Mang0's response, and this video too, are all because he's upset and his feelings are hurt because people "don't like him". Not really sure where the disconnect is here, it's definitely mostly bias because people will call one person out for something and let the other person off the hook.
