Learn FreeCAD Curves Workbench 20: Building Waffle Structures and Lattice Slabs Organic Architecture

Experimenting with organic architecture in the Curves Workbench in FreeCAD. We look at a number of different way to create parametric and non parametric waffle structures. We use a number of tools such as the ISO, join and split curves in the Curves WB to create these structures quickly from Nurbs and standard services. We create lattice type profiles and woffle slabs to find ways of creating these structures. We use a variety of tools part, draft and sketcher. We look at four ways of creating these structures.

HI, Thank you so much for your work. I'm learning so much from them. At 42:05 you mentioned there must be another way to create slots in ribs in an easier way... I used the Addon LCInterlocking. Made solid extrusions of the IsoCurve lines just like you have shown. Then Split the extrusion with the Split Compound from Part workbench. Then used the Cross Piece function from the LCInterlocking Workbench and Voila... Slots This maybe what you were wanting. Cheers, Keep up the good work.

Another hugely informative video by MangoJelly. I'm coming back to FreeCAD after taking a break in my learning curve. Do you have any videos that show how to cut opposing notches in the grid members so they can be cut by a laser cutter or cnc and then physically joined together? I found a notch tool in the curved surfaces workbench but it doesn't handle joints that aren't 90 degrees to each other, and I'm not sure how tedious it is to use on large arrays of members.

Glad you enjoyed. Yes I was trying that same tool a few days ago and it has some strange effects. I don't have a video for that process but I think l would join them all together in a compound, and use that in the cut and repeat the process on the other side. Maybe it's a idea for another video?

That's one thing that I am trying to figure out so I can come back to as I want to create this in a cardboard cutout and finally wood. As soon as I figured that one out I will share. Thank you for the comment, glad you like.

@@MangoJellySolutions there was an slicer for fusion application but Autodesk ruined it like many things. I'd love to make an browser based application to slice stl's in this way but I've no idea on how to start with that. Cadquery or openscad might work
