With such a small number of matches played, it's more like they are soft-smurfing because they are almost always playing somewhat below their actual rating, similar to a pro Starcraft/Dota/etc.. player playing vs random "top 1000" players. If that were the case, they would never lose as well.

That 1 hp infantry right at the end was likely to make sure aria couldn't place an infantry on the city. It dying to the 4hp one left the city open to be capped by the victory march on the next turn which gave the exact number of properties to win i believe. So in a way Akasha won with a 1 hp infantry.

Its not going to be better than actual games between voa and the cutrent best, but the consensus among high skill players is that VOA is in a league of his own, hence the estimated 1800 "true elo".

Akasha doesn't appear to be thinking 10 turns ahead to me, it looks more like he just makes every single move with the intention of having multiple options to choose from later on. You can see it with some of the infantry capture routes on the right early on; even though it's incredibly marginal they still position infantry so that they can choose NOT to go for the bottom-right property if they see a play later where the infantry attacks instead. You don't normally see people do that kind of thing.

Analysis time once again 2:43 Typically this happens when you have a superior opening compared to your opponent, a subtle mix of whether you can maximize capture game value and whether you can deny your opponents certain contested properties before you can reach them, especially if they rush for it. 3:00 This map is called Lucifer. At T2, this map encourages a Sami pick (an alternative is Olaf, Max unsurprisingly does not do well here, Sigmax arty does that for you.) due to the base location, property location and the mountain range situated next to the base. Mechs and Arty are very strong here but it does take time to set up. Once it is there though, you can do a very slow push on the 2b side. (Happens at higher level play, at lower level play, the push happens earlier and often with a few tanks supported by 1 AA.) 3:57 I have also looked into Arya's games to help me understand openings. I would say that they could be a candidate for grandmaster at some point, never hurts trying to respect the rating. As for VoA, well, Go7 and Incuggarch are in their 1500s fog league, so VoA still has some winning to do before getting to that point. In standard, he still has some ways to go. 4:42 (Map Analysis) Key thing here is that the mountains somewhat block the impact of the 2b strong side (hence why Mechs and Arty work so well here on the 2b side, tanks, less so, but they have a use. So the question now lies more on where are the stally lines for both players on their 2b and 1b side and what they can do about it. 4:53 Yep. Battleships have been used here before. You may recall Deejus covered this in the game of Starflash v Randomwayz, also a Sami mirror. (More wack is the recon openings that they did.) 6:13 Interesting maneuver by Arya here. Normal to see infantry path towards the contested properties and then for the 2b infantry to support the rear properties later. You got a lot of contested properties here that you could be denied, so it is understandable to be more forward walking like VoA. You could force a recon this way from your opponent if you go forward however, so make sure you can tank up in time. (Happens at 7:12, against Sami, the point is less to interrupt caps and more to soften up infantry to pick them off later or slow their cap phase.) 8:23 Only if the opponent plays super passively in picking the other property. Not here. And that infantry can still go for the port and continue the cap path while you can rush out a first tank. 9:00 Interesting to go gambit via a tank on 2b. I guess he is weighing up Arya's more passive opener to be better for his tank vs countering a recon threat where he has options still? (10:30 dang, he made it a dual purpose tank) 9:23 Partly why I do send 1 - 2 infantry from the 2b side to help 1b with the caps, simply not that many paths to take on the 2b side once you get all props behind the mountains. 16:12 Sound trading decision here. 17:45 Centralization can absolutely happen on Lucifer. Most say there isn't really much to fight for and that fights happen mainly on the flanks, I would say that it is one of two ways that a battle can evolve. 18:20 Sound plan. The B Copter can undermine a tank at the chokepoint and the units behind can RIP. 20:00 Oh boy, rocket time. Typically either a win harder move or a lose harder move. Most of the time it is clear to be the latter, but in this case, depending on how Arya can organize, there might be fighting chances? 21:45 That infantry is not exactly free here. Deflecting a tank from the main center is forcing a difficult choice onto Arya. Now VoA can opt to go intiiative for a turn. (Limited attack did happen, but it was more front switching, so you can say Arya called his bluff) 25:00 Now the rocket's role is to be clear, to thwart the plan of a central push. 25:40 Chicken moment. 25:45 You can tell VoA used move planner here, and why I am not a fan of rockets or indirects in general. You think the defence is robust until it is not. Also I am quite sure the VM is considered as well 32:29 Another move planner turn. No way this can instinctively happen. Credit to Akasha though. Saccing 1 BCopter is enough for me most of the time, to sacrifice two battle copters to be 100% sure the Victory March can win the game takes a high level of conviction.

@@Warelephant5 Don't think I alluded to that anywhere in my original comment. But assuming I did, Go7 told me on a stream before (to my surprise) that it is possible to reach the highest levels without using the Move Planner. The challenge is staying at the highest levels. If you listen to VoA's stream he just talks about stuff you rarely hear anyone talk about, like "being sure I can win now because the situation is no longer symmetrical" and other 5head stuff I don't understand, so he's probably pretty good yeah. Early recon against sami I automatically don't like. Your chance of actually interrupting anything is low. Maybe you can very slightly temporarily get ahead in units but I highly doubt it pays off here. And having listened to VoA on twitch a lot I feel he's already taking advantage of this slight asymmetry in build orders and will push it into a much bigger advantage.

31:34 I think the point of the 1HP inf was to deny using the city as cover. Its been a few years and I mainly played the first AW so I'm not used to COs. That being said I if shots were fired I don't think the arty could kill a 4HP INF in city cover, and Arya had no other units to clear it out. Something Im noticing with a lot of "Good" advanced wars players is that they all seem to take so much time per move. They still play impresivally well, but I do think that if your taking a day or more per move, then its only natural that you play better than normal.
@turbo8628
@turbo8628 Жыл бұрын
Everyone should play better if they take their time. I rush my moves, and would be a far better player if i didn't, but these "good" players are highly skilled, taking their time just enables them the room to show their skill. You could give me an entire decade to make a painting and give a skilled painter a day and the result would be that the skilled painter would end up with a better painting. I think global league could do with a live league. If that was to happen i wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the top standard and fog players ended up near the top of that league as well.
@huntsman0865

@@turbo8628 if you spent 9 years practicing for that painting, then one year doing that painting, I'd be willing to bet that you'd have a better shot. I understand what your trying to say though, but that thinking is a bit flawed when the site itself has things like move planer, or if someone just makes two accs and plays the same moves against themselves. Yes, these players are skilled, but this game, un like in chess or painting has a element of rng, no matter how small, that cam also influence the match greatly.
@turbo8628
@turbo8628 Жыл бұрын
@@huntsman0865 definitely. Not a fan of the move planner personally, so i won't defend that too much, but it is available to everyone. Rng is a necessary evil because the game would be far less fun without it. If rng is a deal breaker then there is always chess or other games. Rng here is a bit more like poker odds - you weigh up the risk-reward and go from there. Sure, we have all had our wall-breaking cut short by leaving a unit with 1hp, but we know that is the risk we take in some scenarios. A lot of these scenarios can be avoided by more skillful players! Main point of contention is that i see a lot of comments about these top rated players only being good because they take their time and that just isnt true. If i took my time with the painting, as you said, it would give me a better shot, but it is no guarantee of me having a better painting in the end because skill is the variable that trumps everything else, rng included.

It appears one of the main things in Akasha's toolkit is to never be limited to the expected or meta plays. It reminds me of something I was told by the Black Belts in my karate class way back in the day: White belts are the most dangerous opponents to face, because you cannot predict what they will do, since they have not been conditioned to fight in a predictable manner yet. Perhaps it is also the mark of a grandmaster to be unpredictable, but with purpose and thought; to win games through a display of what others have left on the table through their conditioning.

In warfare typically the most legendary victories are taken when a great commander takes what would normally be an insane risk by doing something completely opposed to conventional tactics. The Romans' greatest military strength was how they were more than willing to experiment and always looked at defeat as a learning experience.

Yes that makes a lot of sense for two reasons. The first reason why inexperienced fighters can be very dangerous is not very connected with strategic games but instead it is more focused on standard sparring matches that are just for training. The dangerous thing here is the fact that they can easily cause serious injury or death by accident due to not being familiar with what to watch out for in the ring. This applies even more to combat with weapons (swords, sticks, etc) but can also be true for unarmed fighting to a lesser degree. Punch a guy hard enough against the head and there's a very good chance that he might die or get severely injured if you hit him the right (or in this case the wrong) way. A more experienced fighter will have much better knowledge about how to restrain himself so that he will only cause severe injuries if he wants to. The second reason is like you mentioned, they do not have memorized a certain set of moves that are executed in a precise manner so it is not very easy to predict what they are going to do. The normal approach here would probably be to be overwhelming immediately, to take control of the fight from the start and move it in such a way that inaccuracies in execution or knowledge of the moves can be punished very easily. The unpredictability of a master is different because for a master this is not random unpredictability born from lack of knowledge or accuracy but instead it is planned. A master does not utilize a certain set of moves exactly like he was taught but instead combines and alters them based on every current situation to use them more efficiently than the standard execution would allow. As a basic example, if you don't know how to punch and I am teaching you how to punch straight forward with your right hand. At first you might swing slightly from the right or below because you do not know the exact technique to punch in a straight line. Then you learn more and become more familiar to the point where all your punches will be straight forward with the right hand which is easy to predict and counter. Then you move up a level and on your own without any further input from me you go back to swinging from the right or from below or maybe even punching with your left hand instead of your right, but this time it will not be because you lack knowledge but instead it will be because you can analyze my defence and determine that a slightly different punch will have a better chance of getting past it. Of course this is not a very good example because everyone probably instinctively knows how to punch straight except drunks and very small children, but I think it gets my point across so it's good enough for the current purpose. At least that's what I think, I've never actually done any sort of martial arts so I might be wrong. Just seems the most logical to me.

this is because karate is a fundamentally flawed martial art literally designed to make practitioners who can't fight well

@@HippieInHeart karate teaches direct telegraphed motions implemented at a stuttered but regular pace , being predictable is a bad thing & punching on an oblique angle is generaly more effective , karate creates well conditioned fighters who can brute force things but the entire martial art was designed by it's creator to give people a healthy martial arts lifestyle while creating weak fighters that weren't a threat due to a goal of spreading martial arts benefits to wider communities without sacrificing the original practitioners local to it's creator's advantages vs everyone else

14:36 It's a mathematical impossibility. There's too many possible moves to think anywhere near that far ahead. I'd say 5 max, and you're gonna change your plans anyway. The thing with chess is that you do 1 thing a turn. Planning that a few steps ahead isn't that hard, because 30 moves is actually just 30 actions. 30 actions is like 1 turn of advance wars. Sure, 30 moves of chess is probably harder than 1, 2, or even 3 turns of advance wars, but 15 is mathematically impossible.
@DrDrao

For context, saying he could plan 15 moves in advance would mean he would have had a plan for breaking the wall on day 14, before he had built his first infantry. Anyone could see how patently ridiculous that is.

Calulating 20 or 30 moves ahead is just b**** Even Chess players only calculate a hand of moves ahead. You can only dig deeper, when the lines are forcing. I simply assume that he likes to take his time, so he can test his moves offline before committing to an attack. This takes time, but allows for very precise moves.
