Have you experienced moments where reality seemed distorted or you felt detached from your body?

Beautiful Work on all levels. So many people experience social anxiety or simply just anxiety in general. Using art to start the conversation like this is powerful.

Very hard to convey something personal, with no words, and still engage your audience within a short amount of time. This is an exception. Bravo!!!
@FritzLewisFilms2 ай бұрын
@Impulse_Films it took longer than you'd think to draft the best script possible and craft the best approach in filming and telling this story so it would convey that personal story. Relying on visuals and having virtually no dialogue hasn't how I initially conceived this outing, but it feel it is for the better of its standing.

@@FritzLewisFilms - I was listening to a podcast on a mathematician and philosopher named Henri Bergson. Bergson had a theory that the feeling of déjà-vu that people experience at times was being hyper-aware of the point where our experiences are being laid down as a memory. Essentially, we are having an experience simultaneous with a memory of that experience. It made me wonder if the distorted reality felt with anxiety and panic disorder might be a similar phenomena. It's as if we are experiencing the world as individual frames rather than in a coherent flow. Very unsettling! At the same time, completely harmless, unless it distracts us from a dangerous task such as driving. At times, I can watch it happening inside myself and be curious about it. Other times, it is very anxiety producing. Hard to explain to someone who doesn't have this issue, unless they have been on a bad drug trip. ;-)

yes, with the beginning I really wanted to highlight the perspective of sitting on the outside, observing. I tend to feel this way a lot in social situations and starting on this note allowed the audience to understand the main character's headspace immediately.

It's ethereal - but wasted content. Like a slow awakening or - awareness of self. Standing outside of self, looking on you. Medicommunicate. I would of gone much darker. This is like a light experience. Where's the fear? mania. confusion. Internal struggle is very quiet. Just my opinion.
@FritzLewisFilms21 күн бұрын
I appreciate the perspective. While there were drafts of the script that depicted more of the mania, it ultimately wasn’t going to make sense for the short runtime and message. The wasn’t intended to go darker like that. It’s hard enough to convey as complex emotions as I did in 4 minutes. If you’re looking for something a bit darker I’d encourage you to watch some of my other shorts on mental health like Take Me Out and re:attachment. Or stay tuned as I do hope to turn Manic Man/re:attachment into a feature where you’ll see darker sides of the dissociation.

@FritzLewisFilms beautiful reply and goodluck for the future. Apologies - I was snarky and rude. Appreciate the feedback to me and the fans watching.
@remoyashell161313 күн бұрын
Definitely appreciate your idea of how you would have done it. The feature holds all of that which you wish to see. On another note, how many people have you seen freak out at a party? If you pay close attention, that’s what it looks like when someone is going through it, they hide it in every way. Internally, they hear the screams of the torture, but no one else does… Especially at a party, in fear of being seen for the darkness that plagues them and judged by the people they seek friendship from.
@remoyashell161313 күн бұрын
I’m sure you’ve experienced moments of paranoia and absolute fear, as we all have. In social gatherings, when anxiety overtakes, we dare not show what is true to us, or else we’re doomed. That’s what we have been taught by our culture. It’s time to change it. It’s time to see the signs in our brothers and sisters and allow them the space to go through it together.
