This came out about 2/3 months after my Dad died. Not going to lie, fairly difficult to listen to this song without thinking about him. But then again that's the power of music isn't it? Nicky Wire wasn't thinking about his Dad when he wrote it, but all I can think about is my Dad and when I was a child with him when I listen to it.

My Dad died a couple of years ago, but when I first saw this, there was something about it that reminded me of him. He seemed so much like those folk - in his late 60s, a retired working-class man. Now, after he has passed, the song has so much more resonance for me and it can be hard for me listen to it.

Resonates so much with me at the minute this song, lost my Dad a few weeks ago 🥲 It’s about a dying generation of hard working, working class people where community, respect for each other, loyalty friendship and principles mattered. Values that are sadly lacking in many communities these days and which have been eroded by Tory scum, where it’s all about greed and selfishness.

This song and the cinematography pulls my heart strings back to the community that I’m from. It reminds me of my wonderful father and makes me proud. Ebbw Vale and all the folk there, the hard working, proud, kind, Welsh people it resonates for. Absolutely heart wrenching song from the Manic Street Preachers. A masterpiece in my mind.

Everything fades to memory the sweetness of mourning drifts away and withers to stale. Life once new with promise and bursts is lost to deaths embrace. I hope someone can hear me out here. This is a fantastic song, absolutely one of the best the Manics have done in the post-Richey days. But it should not be at the place it is on the album. It’s track 3, but because of its amazing build and summing up the album’s themes of nostalgia and the good and bad of the past, it would work amazingly as a closer. I still love the Rewind album but where this song comes has always bugged me. I’m not the only one, am I?

What a beautiful, evocative film and piece of music from The MSP. It speaks of the bonds that unite us all and create communities. Communities that have systematically been dismantled and destroyed by successive English governments,
@WOLFROY475 жыл бұрын
governments don't destroy community people do, it's called divide and conquer. you get policemen from yorkshire to bully mine workers from wales, and policemen from wales to bully mine workers from yorkshire. get the picture ? now, you've got the same thing with fracking. when are we going to learn, to stop fighting each other, and refuse. to fight each other ? it's their parents today, but it's your parents tomorrow, and because you didn't stick together YOU destroyed your community

I feel so happy that their music has developed with them and is still as beautiful as it always has been. There would be nothing worse than at this time in their lives; older, feeling different and developed that they would try to repeat anything like the holy bible or generation terrorists. This song, and coincidentally clip (which is a thing of beauty) I think, depict the state of many of Wales', the UK's or Europe's small villages. It has become near impossible to live there. People moving out, seeking a way of survival in the bigger cities. The people left behind, driven into pure frustration by the impoverishment of their, once so vibrant towns. A small point of light is the wonderful people who manage to keep their spirits up and try to find comfort in their community.
