Hey Luca, you did an amazing job with the engine. I work for a company that overhauls RR Trent 800 engines in TX (Goes on 777-200's depending on airline). If you would like, whenever you are in DFW area I could arrange a tour so you can see this engine in piece parts getting overhauled then put back together and tested.

kona702 Hey, thanks so much!! That really means a lot! For what it's worth, I've taught myself the skills to do all this. Back when I started, I never could have imagined doing what I'm doing now (in terms of detail/accuracy). If you ever feel inclined to try modeling of any kind-or anything creative for that matter-I say go for it. You're likely to surprise yourself. Feels good to make stuff!

Believe in yourself and never let anything or anyone tell you that whatever you did doesnt amount to anything at the end of the day - its finding the right opportunity.

Never mind the fact that this is all made from paper, the mere fact that you were able to hand build all this detail, is mind boggling. i cannot for the life of me fathom the extreme patience, motivation, grit and determination you must have.. to bring about to life such an exquisitely made functioning model. VERY very easier to understand (even for a young kid) when simplified such and the workings are shown from various angles. one of my younger nephews around was so excited to see this (he joined in mid-way, after curiosity got the better of him amidst his playing around) Please do keep spreading your knowledge and amazing craft. *Ought to consider taking this professionally and perhaps set-up Patreon/Spotify type funding too.*

The "racking" that's evident when you deploy and retract, reflects the issues that engineers encountered and battled on the early cascade-style TRs. Those issues were pretty well resolved by the time the 115K entered testing. Getting the three mechanically - synchronized actuators installed and rigged in precisely located fittings, mounted on sufficiently rigid fixed structure, was one of the keys. I work in that field; no easy parts to design in a TR, but it's fun and challenging. Your project impresses me to no end!

Okay, this is just an inhuman level of skill! I thought I'd seen the best in modelmaking over at the Internet Craftsmanship Museum website, but this surpasses ALL of that! Tell me, Luca: Did you, at any point, just stop and go "What the hell was I thinking? I can't make stuff THIS detailed - out of THESE materials! Nobody can!" My Dad was a set designer for TV, and he always had this to say about big, complex projects: "About the time you get finished, you'll have figured out how to get started."
@lucaiaconistewart11 жыл бұрын
I think that all the time. I am often genuinely surprised when things work the way I intended. There are also plenty of moments where I have to go back to the drawing board because something is too fine or hasn't panned out quite right. I have no idea how I've gotten this far, honestly. Practice, I guess. Anyway, thanks :)

Thanks to you I know how reverse thrust works. That was incredible and the design was spot on.
@youbecha6411 жыл бұрын
Very nice job on the overall model! I just want to clarify the operation of the thrust reversers. There are levers attached to the front of the throttle levers in the cockpit. In normal operation upon landing, after the pilot brings the throttles to idle power, (full aft setting) he reaches forward and grabs the thrust reverser levers. The first bit of pull on the levers unlocks and opens all the reverser doors etc, after they are unlocked, the pilot can continue to pull aft on the levers. As he pulls back on the thrust reverser levers the engine power is increased, the higher the power, the more thrust being pushed out the reverser doors to slow the forward thrust. So on a long runway with a lightweight engine, the pilot may use idle reverse (simply the doors unlocked). On a short slippery runway (like LaGuardia in NY) he may use full reverse thrust.

@Oppathicc10 жыл бұрын
Joe he is just replicating an engine model from either Royce or GE (engine companies), he is not trying to 'fool' anyone, its just modeling. In fact in the description he says he replicated an engine. Also Boeing isn't the only aircraft company, however I do support them, a lot. ( I hope this isn't rude) Great work Luca! You better get hired for some kind of engine or aircraft company.

For anyone who wants to know 80% of the air that enters the engine goes into that outer casing. The center part of the engine does not get reversed because the outer casing supplies a little more thrust than the small inner part of the engine. The small inner part of the engine does supply more thrust when the engine speeds up (More than the outer casing's thrust when the engine speeds up.)because the turbines in the engine must gain speed to match the thrust given by the engine.

I hope you hsve a good way to preserve your work when it's done. People 500 yesrs from now want to enjoy this. They'll have robots (3D Printers) that will make better ones, but to see what the artist could create like this will be interesting for them. When you have machines to do this It may end up being a lost art. Most people 100 years ago knew a lot about, say farming, Nowadays not so many people know what's involved. You plane will be a human marvel for, quite possibly, eons!
